I Will Be In the UK Next Week

cobblepot:

gailsimone:

For signings at the Traveling Man UK comics stores in Newcastle and York, and for the THOUGHT BALLOON festival in Leeds on the weekend.

Other comics peeps like Tim Sale and Adam Hughes will be there, and the great Jeff Lemire. It should be a blast, I'm told it's a great event.

Who all is going?

I'll be there, with Heroes Alliance UK, we've got a table and will be collecting for the Make a Wish Foundation =D

(P.S. It's Thought Bubble, not Thought Balloon :P)

Wait, you were that kickass Penguin at MCM Expo?

It's only a week until Thoughtbubble in Leeds and I have a grand total of £40 to my name to spend on food, booze and comics. It's not going to stretch very far…

So, if anyone wants any commissions (£25 A4, £40 A3), pages from The Dead Queen Detectives (£25 each), existing drawings from my DeviantArt account (mostly £15 A4, £25 A3) or copies of the Dead Queen Detectives #1 or #2 let me know by dropping me a mail to bevismusson@yahoo.co.uk

Help this artist enjoy Thought Balloon!  :)

Newsarama.com » GATHERING Anthology Brings Pros and Newcomers Together

Newsarama.com » GATHERING Anthology Brings Pros and Newcomers Together:

ladiesmakingcomics:

Nice little write up on an anthology that got its start on the Bendis boards, a huge push by Gail Simone, and (hopefully) launches the career of one Cassandra James Lovell.

Cassandra James Lovell, whose work I FIRST saw, I think, on Tumblr, and who is going on to work with other writers…she's fantastic!

I supported this book because I admire how these people, who had never printed a comic before, came together and worked hard and made a great anthology comic. I highly recommend it, it's a great book every issue. I have a story in issue two, and other pros have donated stories as well.

So, I had a good walk. I went to my LCS and picked up both Batman and Robin #3 and Brave and the Bold #13. I pored over B&R while I waited for the train home—-and ugh, it was so good—-and just started paging through B:BATB when the train…

**********************************************

Dang it, that's a beautiful story.

I get comics, way too MANY comics, in comp boxes each month. DC sends a copy of everything they print in one box, plus we get extra copies of our own books, plus Bongo sends me copies of all the Simpsons and Futurama comics, and other companies send me their stuff hoping I will work for them one day, I guess. It adds up to a huge number, way beyond what I can possibly read.

So I take the kid appropriate ones, read the ones I want, and then stack them for Halloween. Our neighborhood doesn't get a LOT of trick or treaters, so when they come, they get candy, and they get to pick out four or so comics. The cartoon network stuff, inoffensive superhero stuff, Bongo comics, that sort of book.

It's kind of wonderful to see how the kids' faces light up, when they see they're getting good candy, but ALSO get to take home some free comics. They get really excited, like, "Really? These are free?" And I have yet to have a parent complain, most are pretty thrilled.

Unsurprisingly, we get a lot of repeat business. One young pair of girls, either best friends or sisters, have shown up every year since we started. They are always so nice and appreciative, and I realized recently that I started giving them books when they were around seven, and now they are around SIXTEEN YEARS OLD.

And they still are delighted to come and get the comics. Some kids have moved, and still insist that their parents drive them over to that house that gives away comics.

I'm telling you, putting a Scooby Doo or Dexter's Lab comic in a five year old's goodie bag is a wonderful feeling.

Question Of The Day

Okay, here is my question for DC readers.

If you got to choose five DC titles, and that's it, period, to have sent to you each month while you are stranded on a desert isle, what would they be? You can choose any books as long as they have existed as a title at one point, whether they currently are running or not. So if you pick a team book as one choice, you can pick which era of the team, as well. It is assumed that these are all new stories by great creative teams. If you pick, say, Flash, you can pick WHICH Flash. All dc imprints are in play.

What gets sent to you on your deserted island each month?
