USA Today and Amazon bestselling author of Exigency (2014), the Matt Turner series (The Dig, 2011; The Opal, 2012; Return, 2015), and the Demon’s Story series (A Warm Place to Call Home, and The Many Lives of Samuel Beauchamp, 2013), Michael Siemsen has sold more than 175,000 books.

Michael grew up in Venice, California, the second son of a Vietnam veteran who was the first son of a Korean War veteran who was the first son of a World War I veteran. Like Lieutenant Dan, Michael carried on the family tradition and joined the Army, though the only wars he fought in involved blank ammunition, laser tag gear, and were kinda fun.

That headline has nothing to do with the book, I just wanted to write it. This book by the great and glorious Siemsen was enjoyable throughout. I was engaged even when Samuel was writing a philosophy thesis, I mean, that say" Read more of this review »

"Every sequel ever written is compared to its predecessor and when making a comparison here it becomes all to easy to find yourself wishing Samuel was a little bit more like Frederick. I wanted him to be just as witty and charming however, he was not." Read more of this review »

“She spoke throught her teeth. "Almost, dear. What were the real words you used? The bad words. It's okay to say them again, just this once."
I shrugged, "fine. I said'. . . just 'cause Daddy wants you to suck on his ding-a-ling.”

Michael Siemsen, A Warm Place to Call Home

“After a week passed it had dawned on me what I was and, more importantly, that I needed to do a little more research before climbing into one of you people. For one, certain religions will make life a living hell for a demon. Exorcisms are obnoxious. I mean, who the hell are these grown men believing in a fucking invisible entity occupying human bodies? To me the concept of a demon should be no different than any other monster myth out there—Yeti, Chupacabra, Robert Pattinson. Disregard for a moment the fact that I happen to exist. No one should believe in me. It’s stupid. There’s as much evidence to support my existence as any other silly legend. And yet, someone decided there should be trained “professionals” dedicated to the holy mission of pissing me off.”

“Oh, the jobs people work at! Out west near Hawtch-Hawtch there's a Hawtch-Hawtcher bee watcher, his job is to watch. Is to keep both his eyes on the lazy town bee, a bee that is watched will work harder you see. So he watched and he watched, but in spite of his watch that bee didn't work any harder not mawtch. So then somebody said "Our old bee-watching man just isn't bee watching as hard as he can, he ought to be watched by another Hawtch-Hawtcher! The thing that we need is a bee-watcher-watcher!". Well, the bee-watcher-watcher watched the bee-watcher. He didn't watch well so another Hawtch-Hawtcher had to come in as a watch-watcher-watcher! And now all the Hawtchers who live in Hawtch-Hawtch are watching on watch watcher watchering watch, watch watching the watcher who's watching that bee. You're not a Hawtch-Watcher you're lucky you see!”
