Operation Auction update
Thanks to everyone who bid on my UF crit for the auction to help Fatin and her family (Operation Auction). I'm still waiting for the auction organizer to pass along the identity of the winner. If you're out there in cyberland and want to contact me beforehand, feel free to use the contact form on my website. Arcadia book 2 and WIP
So, I heard this week that my publisher, Pocket, is closer to firming up a release date for book 2, and I'm super happy about where that date is on the 2012 calendar; keep your fingers crossed for me that it sticks. And there's a also title. *throws confetti* I'm quite pleased with it and will post here when it's official.
In other book related news that I can only tease you about, I'm making headway into a YA manuscript that might very well be the best thing I've written. But, hey: writers...

Page Proofs
Kindling the Moon title page
For the last week or so, I've been re-reading Kindling the Moon and making corrections to page proofs. In this stage of the publishing process, the book has been typeset in its printing format. This was the first time I got to see what it would be like to read it in paperback. So interesting to read it in this format, as opposed to the raw document in Word.
Pocket did an awesome design job with the fonts and chapter numbers. I never noticed how many mass markets I...

On My Wall

Kindling the Moon print (art by Tony Mauro)
Thanks to my cover artist, Tony Mauro, I now have this beautiful 16×20 signed print hanging in my office. It's hard to tell from the blurry iPhone photo, but it's HUGE and overlooks my writing desk. It's the equivalent of a business owner framing their first dollar—only much prettier! Oh, summer release date: you are so far away. Sigh!
In other news, I'm wrapping up the first draft of book 2 and (hopefully) sending it to my editor at the end of the...

Getting paddled in front of big spiders
Okay, I couldn't resist posting this early 80s memorabilia. It's my 6th grade class. Someone put this up on Facebook recently, and I laughed 'til it hurt. Can you guess which one is me? Red shirt, standing in front of the left column. Yes, that's totally Morgan Fairchild feathered hair and a rolled-up pink bandanna around my neck. So classy. I'm pretty sure I was into Def Leppard and Van Halen (Diamond Dave era) at this point, so that might've been my attempt at looking all Rocker Chick at...

Snowbound in Hotlanta

Tiki torch covered in falling snow
This is what the poor tiki torch on our deck looked like last night when Atlanta got slammed with a rare winter storm. We measured 5.5 inches of snowfall at our house. Granted, we've been in far worse when we lived in the Maryland / D.C. area a few years ago—two feet, to be exact. But seeing snow in Atlanta is pretty strange. I once went through an entire winter here wearing flip flops. No, really! Fashion faux pas, sure, but it was balmy and I was...

Official cover unveil for Kindling the Moon!
Ta-da! It's Arcadia standing in front of her bar, Tambuku Tiki Lounge. Everything is just so damn right about it! Pocket Books: I totally heart you. I also heart Tony Mauro, who is the talented cover artist. I'm in heaven.

Pug Pic of the Week
Today's picture is Pug #1 with a look on his face of profound annoyance. I think he was in trouble at this point. "Calm and gentle," we tell him; he has a big problem with this command.
Notice that even though he's got a perfectly nice, comfy dog bed on the wing back chair near the fireplace, he's sitting on our vintage La-Z Boy recliner. Well, vintage 1970. We are early-mid century buffs and usually prefer our furniture pre-1960, but this one was too cool to pass up. We've had to repair it t...
