Review:Three short stories within one book. I must say up front, I am not usually a fan of short stories but in this instance…it works.Story 1 – One Night With a Billionaire – Melanie’s storyIs it not every gal’s dream to meet a handsome Parisian and fall madly in love?  I like that Drew was attracted to Melanie from the start and that he accepted Melanie’s reticence.  Drew was always respectful of Melanie’s wish to pay her own way…not be seen as grabbing at his wealth as a way of bettering her lifestyle.I loved the following comment(s):

 "Bonking her head at this stage would be criminal.”

– This comment comes about when Drew is carrying Melanie into his home at the end of Melanie’s first day in Paris ordeal (trying not to spoil it for you readers :) )….but it an event as seasoned travelers, we all worry about.

“When he imagined kissing Melanie, it wasn’t some chaste brush of lips……..this wasn’t helping his condition at all.”

I felt this thought of Drew’s portrayed to the reader the depth of his feelings, while playing on the lighter side of the fact that Drew was really turned on by Melanie.The chemistry between the two was very well written.  I loved that Drew had the forethought to plan ahead for all possible contingencies when they went to the theatre. Only a billionaire would be able to pull it off! All in all – I really enjoyed this first romantic short story.
Story 2 – Tempted by a Cowboy – Astrid’s story
I found this this story line a bit too “contrived”.  Rich gal apprehensive in NOT telling the average guy she is rich….A tired storyline….but having said that; I did get swept up in the incredible passion that was portrayed in this short story.  The chemistry between the two protagonists was undeniable.  I enjoyed the “true to her profession – a veterinarian” professionalism.  Until Janis Joplin had safely delivered her colt….Astrid was very professional in her dealings with Fletcher.
My heart was thumping wildly when the accident occurred.  It was predictable that an act of this nature would destroy the professional distance between the two since they were both so respectful of their working relationship.  Did I mention the chemistry between the two?  The descriptions in the love scenes were HOT yet tasteful.However, I must say of the three short stories – this was my least favorite.
Story 3 – Safe in His Arms – Valerie’s story
Take a pertinent issue in these times and integrate it into finding the “perfect man”….The story was delightful.  I felt this story had depth.  Apart from discovering and falling in love with a billionaire, the story incorporated real life trials and tribulations (PTSD) into the story.  And as well, I loved the therapeutic horse aspect.  Now a hunky guy is always appreciated as well :) .
This was my favorite of all the three stories, probably because the way Valerie and Adam met.  Adam was the owner and facilitator of the ranch that did the animal therapy Valerie attended at the suggestion of her therapist.  But backing it up a moment….Valerie met her future therapist, Will, when she had a panic attack while out with her friends at the gals favorite watering hole – The Golden Spurs & Stetson.  These attacks were a result of Valerie’s PTSD as a result of being trampled during a concert.  Her boyfriend at the time abandoned her during this crisis and only looked after himself, which also has lead Valerie to distrust relationships.  With this back history – I felt the story had more depth.
I did enjoy the common thread among all three stories with the three women all friends from college.  The final epilogue tying all three short stories together was heartwarming.  I recommend this book with three intertwined short stories for the romantic in you.FANGS RULE BookshopAMY MAH VAMPIRE

(from Goodreads)Review:I really enjoyed Fat Cat at Large by Janet Cantrell!  It is the first book in a new series, A Fat Cat Mystery.  One of the reasons I enjoyed it just from the title and the cover art is that two of our cats are a bit … plus sized, who never seem to eat more than the others but must be chowing down on dry kibble while we are sleeping.  Svelte, in-shape kitties are great, and I do have a couple of those, too.  But I can empathize with poor Quincy, the sweet boy in the book, who doesn’t like diet food any more than I do.Chase and her adopted grandmother/ mother, Anna, are co-owners of a delightful, unique dessert bar shop called Bar None.  They make the best treat bars in town, a college town with hundreds of  hungry students and their visiting families.  Take a look at the creative front cover with samples of the offerings along with Quincy.  Aah, now we see why he finds diet food so hard on the palate with all of those awesome, chocolaty treats in the shop!As the story opens, a visit to the vet brings about changes and challenges for Quincy and Charity “Chase” Oliver.  Concerned that Quincy could become diabetic, handsome and personable Dr. Ramos puts Quincy on a diet, complete with special food and special treats.  Quincy immediately becomes like Morris, the Finicky Cat, keeping his lips zipped.Quincy escapes from their apartment above the shop and Chase “chases” him, finding him inside the open door of a condo.  Quincy was chowing down on meatloaf, while her nemesis, Gabe Naughtly lay on the floor.  Dead.  Which Chase finds out only when he doesn’t respond so she rolls him over and finds a knife stuck in his chest.  She grabbed the knife until realizing her error, and her fingerprints were the only ones the police later found on it.  Unfortunately, there was more than one witness to the angry words that Chase and Gabe exchanged earlier that day in the Bar None.Chase’s troubles only get worse from there.  Chase and Anna’s two employees are always having spats in front of customers.  Shaun, the reason that Chase returned home to Minnesota, seems to have transplanted himself into her turf.  Discrepancies are found in the books, showing the cash drawer has been coming up short on more than one occasion.   Then, bodies begin to stack up, and there is no shortage of suspects.  The police seem to be focusing primarily on Chase, however, as her beloved Quincy continues to lead her to the bodies in his quest for non-diet food.  Will she soon need the legal services of her best friend,  Anna’s granddaughter Julie, who recently passed the bar?Character development is excellent, with three-dimensional personalities and a neighborhood shop that is so realistic that one almost expects to walk down the block to the Bar None for a box of bars to take to their office, or home for dinner guests.  The start-up of a business, as well as the creativity of the dessert chefs, shows some of the realities of being a small business owner - the good, the fun, and the … challenging.Cat owners will definitely appreciate Quincy for the priceless pet that he is, as Quincy is so much like cats that many of us have known and loved.  How many pet owners have purchased special foods for their pets for various health conditions only to find their mouths zipped shut, yet pestering for people food during meal time?  Or wandered through their neighborhood calling their cat’s name, looking in trees and bushes?The plot is satisfying, with enough suspects and redirects to keep a seasoned cozy reader thinking - even when I thought I knew who the killer might be, I failed to find a motive. It is up to Chase and the police to “follow the evidence” to the real killer or Chase won’t be able to bake bars any longer; she’ll be behind bars.Four paws up for Janet Cantrell’s Fat Cat at Large!  I highly recommend this for cozy readers of all ages who are fans of cats who like their mystery sweetened with baked goods and female sleuths with the hope of romance.  It is well worth the read. Review:Travels With Casey is a ride along story of the author Denizet-Lewis and his dog Casey’s journey across America in an RV. Mr. Denizet-Lewis thinks Casey doesn’t really like him. He is coming off an ended relationship and had just spent time in the office of a Manhattan psychoanalyst who specialized in our relationships with our pets. He sets out to write about the different relationships people in America have with their dogs and hopes the trip will bring him closer to Casey.  The stops the writer makes and the dogs and people he meets are enjoyable and some are informative. All though for me (a dog lover) I could have done with less information about the writer himself and more about the dogs.Mr. Denizet-Lewis has a pleasant writing style that flows easily and keeps the reader entertained. Any dog lover will enjoy the stops he makes, the people and dogs he meets and the information he brings to the pages of Travels With Casey.
I enjoyed the time he spent with the wolf dogs, the sled dogs and Cesar Millan most. I had a hard time reading about his time at a high kill shelter and think other dog lovers may as well. Along the way Casey gets a new partner and the relationship the writer has with both dogs changes his view on Casey.As a dog lover and person owned by many a dog in my life, I found it hard to understand the author’s view of Casey. I was glad to see it change by the end of their travels. And as I stated before I really didn’t expect so much time to be spent on the writer in this book. However that is just me. I think most readers will enjoy this book and am sure any dog lover will greatly appreciate the time Mr. Denizet-Lewis spent exploring the relationships of people and pup. I would recommend this book to most any dog lover and anyone that wishes they could explore the many different ways that dogs are a part of our lives.
