College a Scam?

That’s what I got when I typed “college” into my Google search bar. That was the suggested term.

That’s sad.

As for me, I’m loving my second college experience. I’m starting gently. I’d be a fool to start any other way, after what happened last time.I’m taking Spanish because it’s absolutely necessary and I don’t know how I’ve made it through ten years of my job without it. I’m also taking a course called “Becoming a Master Student.”

One of our first assignments was to discuss what we value abou...

A Few Quick Notes

School started Wednesday, and I’m floundering a bit. Till I get it under control, my schoolwork takes precedence over blogging. So. Just a few items.

If thirteen-year-olds stopped to think that this lady has been hunting ditching students for ten years, they might get away with something–or figure out that they aren’t GOING to get away with it and just don’t start.
My cats think textbooks make awesome beds.
When I don’t feel I have the mental capacity to hook up a printer, you know I’m overwhelm...

Needed: Bigger Rock

So I’m writing a script for a…well, it’s for Valley of the Moon’s Halloween show. I told my friend I’d help, thinking I’d contribute a few bits like last year, and then suddenly there was this deadline and no one else he’d asked had anything, and…well, onward.

We’re three weeks into the year at the school where I work. It’s…a mite busy still.

School-I-attend starts tomorrow.

Deliberately vague, but the young lady I was worrying about here? The prognosis is not good. Almost three weeks since her...

Brotherly Love

So I was putting clothes away a while ago, since I tend to pile them around my room when I’m in a hurry/feeling lazy. Maybe twenty minutes later, I hear my cat playing with the closet door as he likes to do, but maybe a little more fervent about it.

I look over, and Ravenclaw is sitting staring at the closet door. Not a paw on it. So I don’t hiss at him to stop beating on stuff.

Noise starts again. I look over. Ravenclaw, sitting and staring.

Then I notice a paw coming under the door from the in...

The Desert Museum

So here in Tucson, there’s the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, which has animals in as home-like an environment as they can manage and really they do pretty well.

Then there’s the Wildlife Museum and it’s full of taxidermied trophy animals, or so the story goes.

They’re both on the same road. I used to get them mixed up. I mean, doesn’t “wildlife museum” sound like it has live animals, if it’s a choice between that and the desert museum?

It’s the desert museum that has the live animals. Though thi...

Wishful Thinking

I’m helpless and I hate it. Halfway across the continent from me, a young woman is fighting for her life. Halfway around the world, another is reeling from an awful discovery. I care very much about both of them, but there’s pretty much nothing I can do. I can’t rescue either. I can’t beat the crap out of their challenges. All I can do is cheer them on, and one of them can’t even hear me.

I fucking hate it. I’m not a take-charge kind of girl usually, but when people are hurting, I want to just...

An I-should-blog day

And I have nothing much to say. Except…

People should effing know better than to drink and drive. People should not land in ICUs because some dumbass was too proud to take a cab.

And people shouldn’t shoot people. Pretty much ever.

Tom Hiddleston Stole my Pterodactyl!

I had a 220-day streak. I had a pterodactyl. His name was Steve. But last night, somewhere among the fifty fifteen tabs working on the website and the fifteen fifty Tom Hiddleston pics/gifs/videos and the other stuff I’ll get to sometime, I lost track of the 750words tab and forgot about it.

I broke my streak. I unhomed Steve. I am a bad, bad pterodactyl mommy.

So now I begin again, with a turkey. Which I shall not name, because I’m hoping to lure Steve back by feeding it to him.

A long time ago...

A New Look and a New Book

Hi! Just a quick note to show off what I’ve been up to lately. I/We have completely revamped the Turtleduck Press website!* Updated the software (boy was it in need of it!) updated the template, and brought out a new book besides!

If you like paranormal, sf, contemporary fantasy, stuff like Buffy–well, if you like any or all of those whatever the right term is, won’t you check out Erin Zarro’s Fey Touched? It’s right there on the front page. :)

Tonight I’ll blog about pterodactyls! Well, one any...
