LISTEN: The Scripture & the Sense: Jeremiah 12 (with Daniel Whyte III)

Daniel Whyte III reads the Word of God on a daily basis and give the sense of it based on an authoritative commentary source such as Matthew Henry’s Commentary On the Bible. This podcast is based upon Nehemiah 8:8 where it says Ezra and the Levites “read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.” The aim of this podcast is that through the simple reading of the Word of God and the giving of the sense of it, the church would be revived and the world would be awakened.

Today we are reading Jeremiah 12.

LISTEN: The Story of Jesus and the Sudden Storm, Part 3 (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 616 since Jan. 20, 2017 / Day 983 since Jan. 1, 2016 with Daniel Whyte III)

TEXT: Matthew 8:23-27

23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.

24 And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.

25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

27 But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

——-

Caught in the midst of a great tempest, fear takes hold of the disciples’ minds. In the midst of the sudden storm, they forget all they had seen Jesus do. He had touched and healed lepers; He had healed a man’s servant without ever laying eyes on the servant; He had cast out demons with a word. On top of that, Jesus was so secure in Himself that He basically turned away people who claimed they wanted to be His disciples. Intellectually, the disciples knew that Jesus was more than capable of handling a storm with them in the boat. But, that intellectual knowledge had not made its way into a practical knowledge. Instead of acting in faith, they acted out of fear, roused Jesus from His sleep, and declare, “Lord, save us; we perish!”

Jesus gently chides them for their lack of faith, saying, “Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?” Matthew Henry points out that Jesus “does not chide them for disturbing him with their prayers, but for disturbing themselves and Him with their fears and lack of faith.”

Then, Matthew the gospel-writer informs us, “He arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.” Jesus got up from His posture of sleep in order to command that the winds and waves be silent. The Greek word translated as “rebuked” means to chide, to reprove, to sharply admonish or charge. Just as with the Centurion’s servant and those who were demon-possessed, Jesus spoke a word and effected change. The disciples, of course, would have been familiar with the account of Creation, in which God spoke and the earth, sea, and sky came into being. Seeing Jesus could speak in similar manner to creation must have erased any lingering doubt in the disciples’ minds about who Jesus was.

Note the change Jesus brought about with His words: there was immediately “great calm” in contrast to the “great tempest” which raged just a second earlier. The Greek word translated as “calm” simply means stillness, as in the stillness of the sea. Isn’t that what each of us have craved at some point or another? Stillness. Silence. Calm. Peace. Rest. Jesus already had all of that in abundance. He had it inside of Him and, thus, was not disturbed by the storm. The disciples, however, had not yet learned that their peace did not have to be disrupted by external circumstances. So, Jesus brought them physical calm in order to show them the source of all their comfort, peace, and calm in life.

With Jesus living inside of us, we can have great calm no matter what happens. If we have faith in Him, we can likewise sleep in the midst of the great storms of our lives. Our calm comes from Christ Himself, from the knowledge that He is in control of every circumstance. With just a word, Jesus can sweep away all of our struggles and difficulties. However, in His sovereign wisdom, He often invites us into the storm with Him in order that He might test us and teach us as He did with the disciples in this story. The key for us is to remember that we are WITH HIM. Without Christ, we have every reason to be fretful and afraid of what might happen. However, with Jesus, we will never perish and we can have perfect peace in the midst of life’s sudden storms.

Frank North wrote

Jesus, the calm that fills my breast,

No other heart than Thine can give;

This peace unstirred, this joy of rest,

None but Thy loved ones can receive.

My weary soul has found a charm

That turns to blessedness my woe;

Within the shelter of Thine arm,

I rest secure from storm and foe.

In desert wastes I feel no dread,

Fearless I walk the trackless sea;

I care not where my way is led,

Since all my life is life with Thee.

O Christ, through changeful years my guide

My comforter in sorrow’s night,

My friend, when friendless—still abide,

My Lord, my counselor, my light.

My time, my powers, I give to Thee;

My inmost soul ’tis Thine to move;

I wait for Thy eternity,

I wait, in peace, in praise, in love.

——-

Now, if you are with us today and you do not know Jesus Christ as your Savior, allow me to show you how you can place your faith and trust in Him for Salvation from sin and Hell.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door”. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

This is the Black Christian News Network One podcast. My name is Danae Whyte. Here are the top stories you need to know about today.

According to Fox News, The town of Smithville, Texas is rallying around an elementary school teacher who received backlash after she posted a video of her first-grade class reciting a Bible verse. Susan Schobel’s now-deleted Facebook video posted on Nov. 1 showed the children at Brown Primary School quoting from a passage of Scripture in the New Testament book of Romans. The majority-Christian community of 4,200 people showed their support with t-shirts that had the hashtag #IStandwithSusan and the Bible verse – Romans 12:9-10 – on them.

According to The Hill, President Trump and first lady Melania Trump lit the National Christmas Tree on Wednesday, marking the holiday season with the annual tradition outside the White House. The president briefly appeared on stage at the event, where he wished attendees a merry Christmas. The official lighting was sandwiched between an array of musical performances, mostly of classic holiday songsriptAccording to the Associated Press, A body found in North Carolina has been preliminarily identified as a 13-year-old girl kidnapped outside her home, ending a three-week search involving hundreds of investigators. Lumberton Police Chief Michael McNeill told reporters at a news conference that state crime lab tests indicate the body found late Tuesday is Hania Aguilar. While a final determination will be made with dental records, investigators believe the body is hers. He pledged to bring whoever is responsible to justice. Investigators said they don’t currently have a suspect or person of interest.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Dozens of state and local law enforcement swarmed the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston’s downtown office Wednesday to seize records related to Father Manuel La Rosa-Lopez, the priest accused of sexually abusing at least two children who attended a Conroe church. Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon said the surprise search was aimed at a trove of employment and disciplinary records related to La Rosa-Lopez and his time at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe.

According to USA Today, First lady Melania Trump called the opioid epidemic the “worst drug crisis in American history” in a rare speech Wednesday at a “town hall” on addiction that featured participants as varied as ex-Fox News star Eric Bolling, Demi Lovato’s actress/author mother Dianna Hart and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. But in addition to the serious subject matter of her speech, Trump also disclosed a few rarely shared personal details of her life as first lady. Trump lamented how the opioid crisis has “truly taken hold of our country,” and how much it has affected the lives of so many people. She called for lifting the “stigma of shame” from addiction and for more public discussion about it so more people can get help.

According to the Associated Press, Defying President Trump, senators sent a strong signal Wednesday they want to punish Saudi Arabia for its role in the slaying of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The Senate voted 63 to 37 to move forward with legislation calling for an end to U.S. involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen. The vote was a rebuke not only to Saudi Arabia but to the Trump administration, which has been clear it does not want to torpedo the long-standing U.S. relationship with Saudi Arabia over the killing.

LISTEN: The Story of Jesus and the Sudden Storm, Part 2 (Just Jesus Evangelistic Campaign, Day 615 since Jan. 20, 2017 / Day 982 since Jan. 1, 2016 with Daniel Whyte III)

Daniel Whyte IIIDaniel Whyte III

——-

In the midst of this sudden storm on the Sea of Galilee, we have two very different reactions from those caught in its throes. Jesus is the perfect picture of peace: calmly sleeping through the tempest. The disciples, however, are frantic. Their fisherman’s instincts told them that they should not be sailing in such weather. Yet, they had done what Jesus commanded; they followed Him when He entered the ship. Now, they urgently try to wake Jesus saying, “Lord, save us: we perish.” If you were caught in such a storm, what would your reaction have been? Most of us, despite this story, react like the disciples when caught in the sudden storms of life. We cry out to Jesus, “Lord, save us: we perish!”

Jesus is roused from sleep, and His response to His disciples is both rebuking and gentle, like a parent spoken to a child who should have known better: “Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?” Regarding this statement, Dr. John MacArthur states: “Jesus’ first response to the disciples’ plea was to rebuke them gently for their lack of faith. He said to them, ‘Why are you timid, you men of little faith?’ The Greek word for ‘timid’ has the basic meaning of being fearful or cowardly, and the disciples must have wondered why Jesus wondered at them. How could He ask why they were afraid and timid, when they obviously had everything to be afraid of? The great question in their minds was why Jesus was not afraid. It was the middle of the night, the storm was sure to wash them overboard or sink the boat, and any response but fear seemed unnatural. Jesus’ calmness so perplexed the disciples that they tried to accuse Him of insensitivity: Mark reports that they asked, ‘Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?’

“But Jesus turned the rebuke back upon them. Why are you timid, He asked, and then gave the answer as part of the question: you men of little faith? They were fearful because they were faithless, timid because they had little faith. ‘Don’t you believe in Me and in My power?’ He asked, in effect. ‘Haven’t you seen enough of My power and experienced enough of My love to know you are perfectly safe with Me? You have seen Me perform miracle upon miracle, even on behalf of those who never trusted in Me or even bothered to thank Me. You have seen My power and My compassion, and you should know that because of My power I can help you and that because of My compassion I will help you. Even if you should drown, don’t you know that would mean instant heaven? What, then, do you have to be worried about?'”

This is likely what Jesus would say to us when we express little (or no) faith in the midst of our storms of life. We have seen Jesus work in the past. We have been witness to His work in the lives of others. We have read of His works in Scripture. We ought to believe that He will do for us what He has done for others. It is easy to have faith when there are no storms. But, for some reason, storms seem to zap our faith. We get tunnel vision and forget that the Lord works in marvelous ways. The least we can say for these disciples is that they did not give in to utter despair. They knew who to turn to. They cried out to the Lord in the midst of their great storm.

Manie P. Ferguson wrote:

Galilee’s waters are raging,

On them a vessel is tossed;

Seamen in terror are calling,

“Carest Thou not, we are lost?”

Sweetly asleep on a pillow,

Maker and Savior He lay;

Wild with dismay they awake Him,

“Master, we perish,” they say.

Over the noise of the tempest,

Over the dash of the wave,

Rings the sweet voice of the Savior;

See, He is mighty to save;

Calmed in a moment the billows,

Hushed in an instant to sleep,

Stilled is the roar of the wild winds,

Steadied their boat on the deep.

Wonderful Jesus, I need Thee,

Out in the storm and the strife,

Oft it has seemed I was sinking,

Tossed on the ocean of life;

Speak to the winds and the waters,

Each Thy behest must fulfill;

Speak to my heart in the tempest,

Whispering softly, “Be still.”

When I am toiling in rowing,

Almost engulfed in the sea,

Make of the billows a pathway,

Come thro’ the darkness to me;

Failures and terrors will vanish,

Soon as I know Thou art nigh;

Say to my soul in the danger,

“Be not afraid, it is I.”

NEW RELEASE! Opportunities for Ministry On the Pathway of Prayer

Buy Now on Amazon Kindle

Have you ever experienced interruption in prayer? If so, you have probably wondered if that interruption was a distraction to be ignored or a divine appointment from God that you needed to fulfill. It can be difficult to determine how we ought to deal with distractions because some are just that—distractions, while others are opportunities for ministry.

In this book, we take a look at some of Jesus’ earliest disciples—Peter, John, Paul, Luke, and Lydia—who each experienced opportunities for ministry, distractions, and diversions on the pathway of prayer. What we will learn is:

How to be open to the Holy Spirit and recognize opportunities to ministry.
How to determine and deal with those things that are truly distractions in prayer.
How to adapt to an unconventional environment that may not be conducive to prayer, and pray anyhow.

We live in a world that is filled with chaos and distractions. Knowing how to manage these distractions, when to see them as opportunities for ministry and give them our time, and when to continue on the pathway of prayer is essential to a successful Christian walk. This book shows you how to navigate those choices.

LISTEN: How to Pray for the Good and Faithful Saints That You Don’t Know, Part 8 (Praying Through the Bible #327 with Daniel Whyte III)

Daniel Whyte IIIDaniel Whyte III

TEXT: Colossians 1:1-14

1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,

2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,

4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,

5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;

6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:

7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;

8 Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.

9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

— PRAYER —

We are in a series of messages titled “Praying Through the Bible: A Series on Every Passage and Verse Regarding Prayer in the Bible.” The purpose of this series is to encourage and motivate you to pray to the God of the Bible. We highlighted each of these over 500 verses and passages in the Prayer Motivator Devotional Bible. So far, we have completed 326 messages in this series.

This is message #327 titled, How to Pray for the Good and Faithful Saints That You Don’t Know, Part 8.

Over the past few messages, we have looked at the specific prayer requests that Paul made for the believers in Colosse. He prayed for them: (1) to have the “knowledge of God’s will”; (2) to walk worthy of their salvation; (3) to be “fruitful in every good work”; and (4) to ‘increase in the knowledge of God.’ In his next request in verse 11, he prays that, they would “be strengthened with all might, according to his [God’s] glorious power.”

Why do the Colossian believers — and all believers — need to be “strengthened with all might”? It is so that they can do the work already set out before them which includes: walking worthy of their salvation, being fruitful in good works, and increasing in the knowledge of God. The devil, the world, and the flesh will fight them (and us) in each of these endeavours. It is only through the strength of God that we will even come close to fulfilling all of these tasks.

The Greek word translated as “strengthened” means to make strong, to confirm, or to enable. The Greek word translated as “might” means strength, power, or ability. Now, we can be strengthened with human power or human might. But, that type of might is not strong enough to fight the darkness that we face in the world. Ephesians 6:10 says, “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.” What we need is strength “according to God’s glorious power.” The Greek word translated as “power” means dominion, a mighty deed, or a work of power. It implies the miraculous nature of Jesus’ works while here on earth which showed His dominion over evil, sin, darkness, and the devil. It is this “glorious power” that Paul prays for on behalf of the Colossian Christians. It is this “glorious power” that is available to us.

John Davenant said, “It is called glorious power on account of its admirable way of conquering the devil, the world, and the flesh. For the Spirit of God, by His absolute power, beats off these enemies of our salvation; but by inspiring us with strength, causes even ourselves to trample them under. Moreover, that power must necessarily be very admirable and glorious which makes feeble man, clothed with sinful flesh, to overcome the insults and wiles of devils, the alarms and solicitations of the flesh, the hatred, snares, and injuries of the whole world. Of this glorious power God Himself speaks.”

You and I need this glorious power in our lives. We need it in order to face the world, the flesh, and the devil every day. There is no substitute for this power. And one way we can get it for ourselves and for others is through prayer.

Fanny Crosby wrote:

Come, Lord, and let Thy power

On each and all descend,

While gathered in Thy holy name,

Before Thy throne we bend.

Come, Lord, and let Thy power

Each thought of self remove;

And may we feel as never before

Thy pure and perfect love.

Our waiting, longing eyes,

Are looking up to Thee,

O may we, in Thy smiling face,

Our Father’s glory see.

Come, Lord, Thy power alone

The work of grace can do;

Now let it consecrate to Thee

Our hearts and lives anew.

Now, if you are with us today, and you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, your first prayer needs to be what we call the Sinner’s Prayer. First, please understand that you are a sinner, just as I am, and that you have broken God’s laws.

Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him.

For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on trusting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. You have done the most important thing in life. LISTEN: The Scripture & the Sense: Jeremiah 9 (with Daniel Whyte III)

Today we are reading Jeremiah 9.
