Josh Lesnick! Just realised, I think Dr. Voluptua means to be a Psychologist, not a psychiatrist! "Psychiatrists" treat mental illness by identifying a cause, and prescribing medication. "Psychologists" on the other hand, treat mental illness with therapy

Actually you are right! Though this distinction seems to be disregarded in many forms of comics and other entertainment. Like how a lot of guys doing psychology work were considered psychiatrists in all those Far Side cartoons. "Psychiatrist" is just a sexier word, I guess.

And truth be told, in all honesty, Doctor V doesn't really do either of those things, she'll diagnose the problem, then it's off to whatever crazy, completely non-medical way there is to solve it.

But... but... the whole facing the reader thing adds to the funny!

Maybe I was hasty to say it'd NEVER happen again. If the time is right, I'll do it!

DOCTOR V THE COMMENTARY (part 1)

The first story was done at around the same time I did Chapter 12 of Girly, when my art was about as cartoony and squashy and stretchy as its ever been.

Though I still draw like that, more or less, I toned it down quite a bit. Jennifer is still the most goofily-drawn patient in the comic. As I said before, the reformatted version of this story won't have altered linework, but I will be givin' Jennifer a nose. I consider noseless characters to be one of those things that ended with Girly.

While the new stories will still be pretty silly, I won't be having characters melodramatically shouting their lines while facing the camera anymore. That was a bit over the top, I think!

Stay tuned for more commentaries.

So someone removed my watermark from this comic I did and has been spreading it around tumblr and reddit. Fun times! Don't know why someone would go out of their way to remove that.

Anyway, I figured if I posted it myself I could balance it out maybe? Maybe!

Love it when great LJ comics are posted here so we can reblog it!

The TAKE gets me every time.

I am reformatting Doctor V's first story now. Done for the purposes of making it fit right in a future book collection. Though like with Girly, I can fit each comic on half a page in its current state. But I'd rather not reduce the art that much (especially since I'm leaning toward doing a smaller Scott Pilgrim-sized collection)… and since the first story is the only one done this way, I way as well fix it… and do it now, rather than be faced with this task later.

It's a reformat and not a revision, so the artwork's all the same, just moved around. Though the temptations are certainly there. Really wanna tone down the Doctor's bulgy cheek in these early comics but nooo. My shaky artistic progress shall be preserved.

I am redoing the shading, though, out of necessity. I can resize the lineart and have it still look good in print, but resized shading and screentones look like crap.

I'd have done this with Girly too, if it didn't mean editing 600 pages of art. :|

Stick with me and I'll get there, just a few more things to do before regularly updated non-chickenscratch comics become a thing by me again!
