Chapbook Update: extension on call for art

My editor has just informed me that we can extend the deadline for fan art pieces for the book to July 27! I've already receive some very nice pieces, but have room for more!

Today's Ear Worm

I have Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" stuck in my head. Gahhhhhh! I HATE that song. Why???????? Time to deploy ear worm defense: "Long and tall and young and lovely, the girl from Ipanema goes walking . . . ."

Memories of Luck in the Shadows For Spectra's 25th Anniversary!

My publisher is celebrating 25 years of the Spectra imprint, and chose one or two books still in print to represent each year. Guess who got picked for 1996? Me! Oh, and that guy, what's his name??? Oh yes, George R.R. Martin, too. ;-) (Just kidding George.)

So they asked me to share some memories, and my long time editor, Anne Groell did, as well. Our comments are to be seen here: http://www.suvudu.com/2010/06/25-years-of-spectra-luck-in-the-shadows-1996-by-lynn-flewelling.html

In a few wee...

More Spam

Is it me or is the spam today just more annoying than usual?? "Roadrunner" is going to upgrade my spam filter, are they? Can we say irony? And all they need to do this are my account name, password, date of birth, and "age/country"?

Pitiful effort, spammer april_russell at sbcglobal.net. Just pitiful. Where's my bitch slapping glove?

The Problem of Sex in Literature

The following is not a rant, just an observation.

Every once in a while I get this comment: "I really liked the first two books (NR) but once they got together, I lost interest."

If I remember my opera correctly, and I probably don't, in "The Barber of Seville" Figaro is helping a nobleman win the hand of a woman the noble is passionately in love/lust with. Yet in "The Marriage of Figaro" said nobleman is already thinking of cheating on his wife. Is that right? I haven't got enough coffee in...

Call for Chapbook Art update

I've had a number of questions, so here's an updated explanation. Thanks to those who have already sent in artwork!

A chapbook is a small book containing one or just a few stories, often put out by the author through self publishing or through a small press, as I am.

I would like to illustrate the chapbook with high quality fan art, so I'm putting out a call. I will use up to twenty illustrations (not all by the same person, of course). You can work from the thumbnails below, create a portrai...

Writer Moments

Whenever a writer travels they tend to go into any and all bookstores, looking for their babies, and offering to sign stock.

This is all the more imperative when your new book comes out. Frankly, I find this very stressful. If they do have my books, I go up to the info desk and charmingly introduce myself, offering to sign books for them. (Only once have I ever been asked for ID) They are delighted and give you a big stack of shiny new books and a pen.

If they don't have my books, I drag myself...

Another Brilliant Commercial

Here's another commercial I was so impressed by that I had no idea what they were advertising. Some of them are little gems of creativity. This one features "paint chip origami". For those of you who don't know what a paint chip is, it's a bookmark-like piece of paper with a range of paint colors on it that you can use to choose colors.
