Today's Work Tea

I'm afraid I'm getting very lazy. It's Panera's ice tea again today, with a few bags of Silk Road Teas's Yunnan Hong Cha black tucked away if I feel like something hot. It's very tasty and well priced.

In a much better mood today. I got a lot of work done yesterday, and today is going well. I'm setting Monday delivery as a hard deadline, as my folks are arriving on Tuesday and I fully intend to take a break and enjoy their stay. I see lots of dominoes, cribbage, and Scrabble in my immediate future. :-)

Today's Best Typo

. . . everyone gathered around to eat mussels boiled in whine and spices.

Working

Today's work tea: Panera's iced tea. It's quite good, esp. for restaurant tea. Goes nicely with my croissant and fruit cup lunch.

Feeling grumpy and out of sorts. Probably a combo of con exhaustion, book stress, lingering jet lag, and happening across a really shitty review on Amazon this morning. I don't usually look at those, but this one just jumped out at me. I'd be lying if I said bad reviews don't bother me, but usually I have a thicker skin. Just the wrong day, I guess. Thankful to have sangha to look forward to tonight.

Crankiness aside, thanks all of you who said hello at ConBust. It was great to see you!

On the Road Again

Tomorrow I head to Northampton, MA, for ConBust at Smith College. It's become an (almost) yearly trip and I really enjoy the friendly intimacy of that convention. Sadly, Patty Briggs isn't attending this year. I always have fun with her.

If you're around that part of the world, come see me! I'll be on some panels, doing a signing, I think, and drifting aimlessly about the halls. ;-)

Petite Lap Giraffe Farm

In case you have been wondering about those Direct TV commercials that feature the miniature giraffe (and the opulence-loving Russian), here is the website for the farm where Petite Lap Giraffes are raised, complete with stable web cam.

Are We There Yet?

Today's work tea is Sensational Teas Golden Tian Hong, a tippy black from Yunnan Province. It's very smooth and went nicely with the toasted bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese I had for lunch. The "fill your own" teabags from Kteas are working very well. Finally, a decent cup of tea in public!

Writing going very well. I passed a real milestone yesterday and am embroidering on that chunk today. I think I only have one chapter left to go, plus some fiddly bits! Hope to make some progress on those and do a final read through on the plane to and from Massachusetts.

When I'm not writing I'm either knitting or sleeping. Currently working on four projects, including a pair of socks that's been half done for about a year, a black worsted vest with lace borders, the aran afghan (nearly done with square #5!) and another of those baby sweaters, this time in a larger size for a friend's granddaughter. My second foray into pink, the first being a hat for my editor's little girl last year. With two sons, I never got much pink exposure. This is not really "baby pink" but a bright dusty rose with a sort of mauvy lace trim. I really enjoy that pattern.

Tuesday: Still not King

Nope, not done yet, but next week or bust! Literally, my head will bust open if I don't finish this soon.

Today's work tea is Silk Road Teas' Yunnan Hong Cha, a robust, rich black from my favorite black tea locale. There's a body and richness to a good Yunnan, overtones of cocoa, fine leather, and tobacco that satisfies like nothing else. It's my go-to comfort tea. Another nice thing about really good black tea; I don't need to slake it with milk like I do the cheaper ones. It's fine on it's own. I might even try it with a slice of lemon, one day. Maybe.

Here's the link. It's very affordable, and downright cheap for the quality, especially since you can get more than one steeping from the leaves.

My brain hurts

I did not write this. It's an excerpt that popped up in a Google search for "can you throw a poniard"

From Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott, which I've never read: "He availed himself of his enlargement to throw himself on the pavement, and clasp the knees of Front de-Boeuf. " Take all that you have asked," said he. . .

One guy's enlarged and the other has beef in front . . . *snerk*

It's waaay too early in the day and I have too much left to write to get this punchy yet.
