THE IRREPRESSIBLES - "IN THIS SHIRT"
I know I've posted this like three or four times since last year, but I cannot get it out of my head. It's on its way to becoming one of my favorite songs (and videos) of all time...and it's not even the "official" video. It sucks that I can't download the song from Amazon. It's an import so the price of the whole CD is crazy-diculous! Anyway, revel in the gorgeous...

Miss Coco Peru AND Lesley Ann Warren in one photo?! GASP! I'm not sure who the guy in the middle is, but he looks equally in the moment.

13 Actresses with Missing Nominations
These are the performances that were left off the list on nomination morning throughout my years of Oscar viewing. I only went as far back as I've been watching the Oscars (1990), and stuck with the performances I actually remember being shocked were not included at the time. Cue the niavite. There are, of course, others that I've seen for the first time years after their qualification for awards and wondered "Now, why wasn't that performance nominated?"
Batman Returns, Michelle Pfieffer, 3 times nominated. This was, I guess, before it was cool to nominate comic book villains.
Dolores Claiborne, Kathy Bates, 3. One of the biggest shocks ever for me. Bates is brilliant here.
Evita, Madonna, 0. She was great. There's no getting around it.
The Fall, Catinka Untaru, 0. I was hoping against hope she would get in.
For Your Consideration, Catherine O'Hara, 0. Too close to home for Academy voters?
The House of the Spirits, Glenn Close, 5. The best part of the entire film.
Interview With The Vampire, Kirsten Dunst, 0. I'm sure giving the Supporting Actress award to Anna Paquin the previous year counted against Dunst.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Cate Blanchett, 5. A small part, but she perfectly embodied the character.
Magnolia, Julianne Moore, 4. The pharmacy scene alone should have gotten her nominated.
The Others, Fionnula Flanagan, 0. The ultimate creepy maid.
Passion Fish, Alfre Woodard, 1. What's this great actress have to do to get a second Oscar nomination?
Pleasantville, Joan Allen, 3. I was miffed she wasn't nominated!...This was back when such things had the ability to miff me.
Postcards From the Edge, Shirley MacLaine, 5. A character based on Debbie Reynolds, and a wonderful and hilarious performance.

Madonna - Love Profusion
One of Madonna's most under appreciated gems from the woefully under rated electronic folk "American Life" album

One Good Thing
You know that feeling of excitement and surprise you get when you put your hand in the pocket of a jacket or a pair of pants you haven't worn in a while and you find money? That's a bit what I experienced this afternoon. I have a Zen music player that I usually listen to while I workout. It has its issues, but it serves the purpose, and my laptop didn't take to my ipod for some reason. I hate my laptop.
Anyway, I'd almost forgotten about the ipod altogether until I stumbled across it this weekend. It was lying under some junk I need to get rid of. I decided to listen to the ipad today whilst getting my workout on. And what do ya know! It was like finding a whole new library of songs. I had forgotten I had downloaded many of them. What a sweet surprise! New (or forgotten) music gives a whole fresh feeling to workouts.

Madonna - Forbidden Love

One Good Thing
It's a Madonna-thon! I've got all my Madonna tracks up and playing on the ol' computer. Nothing quite like Madonna to make you feel like summer is indeed on its way. Her ballads are in the mix as well, and honestly I like her slower songs better usually. But you can't beat "Lucky Star" or "Hung Up" if you're looking to improve your mood or get down with your bad self. Listening to these great songs, I really want to fling open the windows. However, I have to remind myself that - though the sun is shining wonderfully today - it is still not quite in the fifties outside yet. Soon, though.
Sidenote: I remember walking past Crow Hall at HC one day in the spring years ago and hearing Madonna blasting from an open window. That's when I knew it was spring and the bitter cold of winter was over.
