Eric Recommends: Eric Himan

His voice rings heartache from every word. Eric Himan has accumulated quite a following in the last few years, and it's not due to his looks alone. When most gay artists are lending their talents to dance or club styles, he's one of the few openly gay singer songwriter/folkies out there. And he's very good. If I were going to compare him to someone I would say he's close to Tracy Chapman. He's got the same soul baring quality of voice. Recently I received from the artist himself a cover of Don Henley's "Boys of Summer" (a song that I've long thought very homoerotic, for some reason) and he took that song into a whole other place, both sad and sexy. He's played constantly on Sirius stations, so check him out.

George Michael - Too Funky
I forgot about this fun lil' song. Back when I was actually listening to pop music this ditty rocked my little gay world.

Eric Recommends: The Loft

I stopped listening to commercial radio about ten years ago. If you asked me to tell you the biggest Top 40 hits of the day I couldn't do it. I am hopelessly uncool and proud of it. I get my music fix from Sirius and most notably from The Loft. Every Thursday they run a wonderful program around noon called "Idiot's Delight," hosted by the walking music library that is Vin Scelsa. Ever entertaining, Mr. Scelsa plays an eclectic mix of music, which I love, and tells some fantastic stories that would thrill any music junkie. The program is rerun on Sunday nights and it adds a nice bit of punctuation to the end of my week. If you haven't tuned in yet, you should give it a listen.
