One Good Thing

Finally saw A Single Man today. What a beautiful movie. Tom Ford did an astonishing job with his first film, based on the Christopher Isherwood book. There are a whole list of books I'd love to see him work his magic on. Colin Firth was so good as Professor Falconer, and Julianne Moore, in her small part as his boozy best friend, gave the film one hell of a middle. That woman plays mid-20th century parts better than anyone I can think of (The Hours, Far From Heaven). And the score! How was th...

One Good Thing

Sitting out on the porch today. It may seem I do a lot of sitting out there, but in all honesty, I don't do enough. Anyway, there's this multi-colored porch carpet and it seems to draw the butterflies like catnip. They land in flocks and sit there, slowly extending and then drawing up their wings. It's like the colors calm them or something. Some of the butterflies just lay there, their wings flat, until I make a sudden move, then they flit off only to return minutes later. I wish they'd land...

One Good Thing

Today's good thing was set to be the trip I just took to Russel Stover and how he raped me with his chocolatey goodness so that now I can't have a cheat day this week because I don't deserve one.... But then I saw this and fell madly in love with Brandon Flowers all over again. He's singing "Bette Davis Eyes" and I'm loving it:

One Good Thing

Well, looky here. I got my passport in. Finally. I've had a time this summer trying to get a new passport. I was supposed to have it renewed in February, but I got sick. Then a friend invited me on a trip to Toronto and I thought I had just enough time to get another one. I was wrong. Issues arose. Some of these issues can be blamed squarely on me, while others...can't. They didn't send me my old passport back to me, which seems a bit strange. But at least now I can sit back and pretend to go...
