School Visit – Meyer and Frostick Elementaries – 5/10/11
[image error]
Whirlwind day yesterday. Charlie and I visited two schools on the east side of Michigan, just off the coast of Lake Huron. The morning started out great with a delicious breakfast special at Wimpy's Place, a friendly family diner in downtown Lexington, MI. If you're ever in the area, stop in. We hear the hamburgers and coney dogs are even better than the breakfast special. Wow!
After breakfast, we visited Meyer Elementary to speak with the K-4th graders. We also met Mrs. Dahl, a teacher at...

School Visit – Masonic Heights – 4/19/11
Our visit to Masonic Heights Elementary in St. Clair Shores was a long time coming. We were supposed to visit in March, but Charlie and I caught the flu bug mid-month. I came down with it first followed by him. Disappointing, yes, but our visit was worth the wait. The students at Masonic made us feel welcome and appreciated (i.e.–like rock stars). One class in particular even took the time to design a thank-you card for us. The outside of the card bore a photograph of the students proudly...

52 Favorites – The Walking Dead – Charlie 6/52
The Walking Dead, a black-and-white comic book written and created by author Robert Kirkman, premiered in 2003. Since then, the series has spawned over 80 issues, 13 trade paperback collections, t-shirts, an upcoming video game adaptation, and a television series on AMC. Not bad for a comic book, something that many people believe only children should read.
The comic follows the story of Rick Grimes, a police officer from rural Kentucky, who wakes from a coma (trite, I know!) to discover...
