School Visit: Costello Elementary
Super school visit today, April 17, 2012! Costello Elementary in Troy, Michigan has it all. As soon as we arrived this morning, we were greeted by two super fans holding a Real Heroes Read poster (pictured above). Nice way to start the day. Next Media Specialist Wendy Gustin served as the perfect hostess. She planned a flexible schedule, provided a delicious lunch (Fritos for the win!), and even found Charlie some juggling balls. That’s what we get for giving them all away! Best of all, the s...

Artwork Appreciation: Edgerton Elementary
Last week Charlie and I visited Edgerton Elementary in Clio, Michigan. Had a great time. While there, first grader teacher, Ms. May, gave us a stack of colorful letters from here class. She had read Heroes A2Z #13: Monkey Monster Truck to her students, and it seems the class was impressed. The students colored pictures from the book and described why they liked the story. They did a terrific job! See for yourself. Real heroes read!

Special Annoucement: Mystery Underground
[image error]
Greetings, readers! Happy Friday the 13th.
To commemorate this ominous occasion, Charlie and I present our latest writing adventure, Mystery Underground.
Now be warned and beware! Mystery Underground should not be read alone or in the dark. In fact, read at your own risk. This creepy collection of spooky short stories is designed to scare. The endings will shock, startle, and surprise.
In other words, read a scare … if you dare.
Happy Hairy Birthday

School Visit: Edgerton Elementary
Reading Month may have ended over a week ago, but libraries remain open all year long. To maintain the excitement for reading, Charlie and I visited Edgerton Elementary in Clio, Michigan on April 11, 2012. Our day there consisted of two programs in the morning, a yummy lunch of deli sandwiches and frosty fruit smoothies, and two more programs in the afternoon. Many of the students and teachers were familiar with our books and their enthusiasm showed. What a wonderful reception! Students...

Thank You Letters from Dresden Elementary
If March is Reading Month, April could be Writing Month. Charlie and I received another batch of thank you correspondence this week, this time in the form of personalized letters. The letters were written by students at Dresden Elementary in Sterling Heights, Michigan. We enjoyed reading them so much we wanted to share them with all of you. Real heroes read … and write!

Thank You Artwork From Crissman Elementary
Now that March is Reading Month has finally ended for another year (whew!), Charlie and I have some leisure time. We can actually do other important things now, like, you know, write more books, spend time with our families, and sleep. Such is the demanding life of authors. We also have time to check our post office box, which we did today. Among the numerous envelopes stuffed with mail-in orders (thanks, everyone!), we received a nice package of messages from Crissman Elementary in Shelby...

School Visit: Jerry Ross Elementary
On the last school day of March is Reading Month (March 30, 2012), Charlie and I took the Real Heroes Read! book talk to Indiana. There we visited Jerry Ross Elementary in Crown Point. It was a quick trip with a 4-hour drive both ways. Totally worth it though. Librarian Linda Muir is an organizing wizard. She planned a speedy schedule, saw that every book ordered was signed and delivered before we left, and kept us entertained and hydrated. In fact, I even missed my queue to speak during our ...

School Visit: Dresden Elementary
After a busy morning, Charlie and I zoomed over to Sterling Heights, Michigan to meet with Media Specialist Cheryl Boes and her reading heroes at Dresden Elementary. We had such a great time. One of our favorite teachers, Amanda Larsen, works at Dresden. In fact, she really got into our show when we read from our book Knightscares #1: Cauldron Cooker's Night. Mrs. Larsen demonstrated her witch cackling ability. You can watch a video of her cackling below. Good fun! You can also see a bunch...
School Visit: West Utica Elementary
On the morning of March 29, 2012 we visited West Utica Elementary in Utica, Michigan. What a way to start a day! Great school, great kids, but one problem. We left the power cord to our laptop at a school we visited the day before. Imagine our surprise … that quickly turned into panic. No power cord, no laptop. No laptop, no PowerPoint presentation. How would we show the kids all of the awesome drawings from our books? How would they see the pictures of Charlie as a hip first grader in his...

School Visit: Harwood Elementary
March 28, 2012 was a fun day spent at Harwood Elementary in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Charlie and I arrived at 12:30pm–just in time for lunch! Perfect, if you ask us. As soon as we entered the library, we were greeted by Media Specialist Judy Franklin, the student council (pictured above), and PIZZA! Not necessarily in that order. We also enjoyed pop and cookies. Who says school lunches aren't what they used to be? After stuffing ourselves, we waddled down to the cafeteria where we gave...
