Don't You Hate it When...

...you're hoping to hear back from someone by e-mail and they don't respond instantaneously! You refresh and refresh and they're still not there! What's up with that, anyway?

But in all seriousness, how are you? I'm doing well, thanks. The sun has decided to shine today which is always a plus. It's chilly, but not freezing. I decided not to go to the gym, thinking that a wiser use of my time was to get an early start on the revisions of my novel (or, rather Tate's,) except of course I'm sitt

German Sale for Tate

Hey, good news for Tate:

My agent just informed me that the German publisher VGS publishers want the first four books (_Tall, Dark & Dead_, _Dead Sexy_, _Romancing the Dead_ and _Dead if I Do_) for a paperback original publication under their imprint LYX. Of course, I don't really know anything about this publisher, but it's all a yay as far as I'm concerned.

I have to tell you, my psuedonym is a serious money maker (foregin sales are especially nice because I don't have to do anything except si

Tate's success and Shawn's birthday

I just got 4 Stars from Romantic Times Bookreviews!!

Here's what Jill M. Smith has to say about DEAD IF I DO:

"Nothing in the life of Hallaway's heroine every goes exactly as planned, which generally leads to madcap mayhem. This chapter in the first-person series is packed with humor, wackiness and a touch of pathos. It's a genuinely heartwarming treat for fans!

Yay for Tate!

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming... So yesterday was a success in the birthday department. Shawn kept t

I Nearly Peed My Pants (SO FUNNY!)

This, however, is an April Fool's joke and made me laugh OUT LOUD (from Tor.com):

Science Fiction World Rocked as Woman Claims No Sexual Attraction to Neil Gaiman.

Clearly a joke, as I can't think of ANYONE not attracted to Neil. Certainly you've all heard about my various and embarrassingly Fruedian dreams about him, right?

Happy Birthday, Shawn!

It's no April Fool's joke! My partner turns 42 today. And just for the occasion Mother Nature ordered up a lovely snow....hmmm, maybe that part is the practical joke.

Thanks to an extremely tight budget, I'm actually off today to go get presents for the big night (the first is also, as it happens, payday.) The babysitter is booked, and Shawn has decided that what she really wants is a place that will serve plentiful Margaritas and fried icecream. I'm also going to bake a cake this afternoon (

Monday and Its Suckitude

So I spent much of today running around replacing cards and ID and such lost when my wallet was stolen over the weekend. I feel incredibly stupid about it, because the whole thing could have been avoided if I'd just bought a lock for the locker at the community pool where Mason and I were for a friend's birthday party.

The problem is I'm just far too trusting.

This is true generally (see earlier post re: scams), and it's made worse by the fact that I don't WANT to have be cautious. I actively

Ripples in the Field

It seems that, lately, when science fiction writers gather, the conversation inevitably turns to race.

One of my fellow writers asked a question last night that I've been thinking about ever since: "Why can't science fiction be about JUST science fiction?"

My answer at the time was two fold. First off, science fiction has almost always been about people (there were some disagreements about that, of course,) but my second point was more personal. That is, that I have always been proud that sc

Head Down

Sorry I've been absent. I've been writing a bit over at my Tate Hallaway blog about things I've been thinking about, but, honestly, much of my time has been eaten by the beginnings of a head cold/allergies. Shawn and Mason have both come down with sniffles too, and we kept Mason out of school with the hopes that he might actually recover (not to mention not add to the germ factory that is kindergarten.)

Last night, despite keeping Mason home, he and I went to the Bell Museum family night field

Ostara and Life

On Friday, my family celebrated Ostara, the Spring Equinox. The Ostara bunny hid all the eggs we'd decorated (17 of them!) in various places around the downstairs. Mason had a BLAST trying to find all of them, so much so that he offered to hide them himself and have *us* try to find them -- which we did. He's a good hider of eggs! But luckily, with some coaching we found them all.

Friday and Saturday were warm days in the 50s (F), though we spent much of Saturday in the basement. The basemen

It's Too Sunny to Write

Dang it.

I want to be outside planting stuff in my gardens... even though it's WAY too early for that.

*sigh*
