It Needs to Rain

Here in Minnesota it's one of those days when the wind is chilly and the sky is overcast and gray. It would be dismal, except that today is the day that all the lilacs are blooming and large portions of Saint Paul are decked out with their purple and white buds. The air smells like spring. I just wish the clouds would make good on their promise and rain. We could use it. The grass seed is languishing without any moisture.

Also, I'm a bit down today because I have some sad news to convey to a

Later, Fish News for now...

...so, my signing at Uncles' went well on Saturday, at least as far as I'm concerned. Which is to say, people showed up, I wasn't alone, and a few books went out the door. Not bad all and all. (Maybe Don is less impressed with the number of books sold, but you know, given that this one is number 4, I feel good if anyone bothers to come.)

When I have more time (Mason and I are about to head off to the MN Zoo), I will have to write some true fish confessions. I bought a couple more tetra to kee

Wolverine Review and a Small Feminist Rant

I'm a huge Marvel fan, as you all know. Last night [info:] seanmmurphy and I went to see "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." My main review could be summed up pretty simply, "It was cool!" I left the theatre all jumpy and wanting to BE Wolverine, which is all I really need from my superhero movies, to be honest. Plus, as usual, Hugh Jackman has totally embodied the character, and every time I watch him be Wolverine it impresses me how much he really looks and feels like the guy I read in Alpha Flight, X-Men

My Brain Hurts

My brain hurts from trying to come up with new "Dead..." book titles. All I can say is thank God(dess) I have creative friends and partners. I put up a request for ideas help on Facebook and got great responses. Susan Harris came up with "Dead If I Do," and now I can thank my friend Bill Stitlter for "Dead Over Heels." And, of course, Mr. Sean M. Murphy for "Dead on Arousal," but I still need one more... any ideas out there?

In other non-Tate news, my life continues apace. Mason is off schoo

Podcast (with Tate)

Tate and I participated in a podcast at "Vampires, Witches and Geeks:" Interview with Tate Hallaway and I welcome you all to check it out. It's very silly in Tate's usually fun and crazed way. Also, if somehow you've forgotten that the book came out yesterday, feel free to order it now via your favorite independent bookseller or via those other guys.

Got to go. We're back safely from Indiana, but I have to go shopping for breakfast stuff since the cupboards are empty and bare.

On the Road Again... Not!

We were supposed to be on our way to Indiana right now to visit Mason's grandmother, but, alas, Mason woke up this morning feeling poorly. He complained of a side ache and after we'd gotten the car packed and started to strap him into his booster seat, he barfed.

With everything going on in the Universe right now, we went back inside and immediately called the doctor and scheduled a same-day appointment. Fifteen minutes later, with a bucket in hand, we were at our clinic. The doctor suspects i

Mystery Solved

Alas too late for the majority of the tetra, but the answer is: NEVER mess with PH.

You remember when my first mysterious tetra death happened, and then her/his lover jumped out of the tank to his/her doom (and to the great interest to the cats)? Well, at that point, I checked all the various chemical levels in the tank (PH, KH [hardness:], NH2, NH3, etc.) I THOUGHT that that water was too alkaline... so I messed with it.

When I talked to the guy at the fish store, I confessed to all this, but he

R.I.P. Tetra

Had a massive die-off yesterday, ("gucci, gucci, you were good fish)...

...and now there is ONE.

So here's a flashback to a happier time:

Marvel Tarot -- The Lovers

Here it is, and, as usual, my fuller commentary can be found on Tate's blog:

Oh, yeah, and that's the other thing that the LOVERS card is supposed to represent: "the sacred marriage." As you know, Susan Richards/Invisible Woman is married to someone other than Prince Namor.... so, yeah, this is totally fan art and not really a tarot card.

Damage Report? Casulties Rolling In, Sir!

Welcome to the house of dead tetra.

The thing that's been the hardest in all of this is the brief periods of recovery. The fish will perk up, I'll get filled with hope, and then the next morning I'll find one (or two or more) of them plastered to the bio filter. Most days I just shake my head and gucci, gucci the poor suckers, but today I actually cried.

I just don't know what to do any more.

Shawn told me that when these guys die, we can get a new tank... completely new set up. As you know, B
