Alive... Somehow
I don't quite know how I survived this weekend, but I did.
Hey and only a few minor head injuries at Mason's birthday party on Sunday, so I count that as a success. Actually, it was great fun. The kids rolled with the "Halloween in July" birthday party theme and all showed up in costume (and swim suits), ready to splash and play and generally tear up the backyard. We had a cauldron full of juice boxes, a scary scarecrow in the garden, cobwebs over everything, and other spook-tacular events incl

Second Generation Nerd (Take 2)
So yesterday as the electrician is putting the finishing touches on our new outlet on the porch around 2:30 in the afternoon, I get the kind of call every parent dreads: "Hello? Mason's Mom? This is the school nurse...."
My frist thought was: broken bones, death by playground equipment, major puking... worse!
No, get this: my darling little nerd was following along in line, his mind on how depressing gym class is, his hands in his pockets, HIS EYES SHUT, and whammo! He tripped on a concrete

Yet More Marvel...
I'll probably shut up about Marvel soon, but hold on a few more posts, will ya? Thing is, this weekend is ComicCon in San Deigo and, well, I'm not there. I'm sublimating, okay? Plus, my editor *is* there. And, really, wish I could figure out how to get that sweet deal. I'd like Penguin USA to send *me* to ComicCon on their check, you know? I don't know how into the comic book/graphic novel scene Anne (my editor) is, but I can help but think I might be just a ticth more "qualified" in the ne

Freak Angels Review
Since
skylarker complained about my Spider-Man review as being "spoilery," I suppose I'm going to have to put the majority of this review under some wankery lj-cut. Because, while I think I could make the case that the Straczynski AMAZING SPIDER-MAN run's surprises are well over eight years old, Freak Angels is less than a year old.
*sigh*
So, here are my thoughts:
I've decided there's a reason I don't read outside of the Marvelverse. I'm not urbane enough. I don't get it.

Spidey-Review
Because I believe in freaking out early and often, I spent Friday reading Spider-Man instead of writing.
Just to review I read the graphic novel collection "Coming Home," which seems to chronicle the first time Michael J. Straczynski takes the helm of the AMAZING SPIDER-MAN title; random single issues 492/51 "Digger" and 493/52 "Dig This"; and finally the collected issues 515 – 518 "Skin Deep."
What's amusing about this experience is that I've been reading around these issues scatter-shot for seve

Derailed!!!... and It's Not Even Noon
Okay, I woke up this morning ready to write. Honestly. It's a strange summer day. Cool to the point of almost being chilly, and I woke up with a very "ah, a good day for tea and a lot of writing." My brain was actually churning away on some Mouse ideas, and then...
I got back to the coffee shop after dropping Mason off at school and found a couple of notes from my editor Anne for Tate. She had the back cover copy for the new young adult project, ALMOST TO DIE FOR, as well as for HONEYMOON OF

Fixed... Kind of
The plumber arrived yesterday only an hour later than promised and did the work in about two; everything was fixed by three o'clock when I had to go fetch Mason from school. The bill was not astronomical, either. Love my handyman service. I kiss them. Although now I have to get on their schedule so that someone will come and patch the two holes I have in my walls (on in the ceiling, the other behind the couch in the TV room.) Ah well. Holes I can live with.
In other news, I (as Tate only) am n

Now For Something Completly Different... Only Not.
Today has not started out terribly well. I'm currently awaiting a plumber. We woke up this morning ridiculously early as Shawn is off to Seattle for a conference. About an hour into her morning getting-ready routine Shawn came and sat on the bed with a look of deep concern. She said, "Bad news. Really, really bad news. We have a leak."
Of course my immediate thought was, "Oh my god, the fish tanks!"
So, strangely, I was relieved to discover that it was only the kitchen ceiling.
Oh, wait. T

There, I Fixed It...
If you've never checked out "There, I Fixed It", you kinda should. Shawn turned me on to this site, and it's an awesome time waster. I will admit that sometimes I look at the "fixes" and think, "what's wrong with that?" Anyone whose been to my house has seen at least one of these in operation. (I won't say which. It's not on the first page, though.)
In other news it's sort-of-kind-of half-a$$ed raining right now. We really need the sky to open up and flippin' pour, but that doesn't seem to
