Quick! Outlander is free!

Happy Saturday, peeps!

Song of the day- Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars

Outlander was my favorite book for a very long time. It still ranks up there in my top three and I think everyone should read it. Jamie Fraser is just too delicious to keep to myself. (Am I crazy? Shouldn't I want to keep him to myself?)

Follow this link to enter for a chance to win 10 free print copies to share with friends. Woohoo! You can start up a book club and name it "We Heart Jamie Fraser" or "What's Under His Kilt?"

Click here to download a free Kindle version of Outlander. Woot! If you don't have a Kindle, but have an iPhone, make sure and download the free Kindle app. This book is worth it!

Now go read yourself some Jamie and Claire and come back and tell me what you think!

Happy Friday, peeps!
Song of the day- If I Had You by Adam Lambert

It's time to join in the Book Blogger hop (hosted by Jennifer at Crazy For Books.) It's a great way to discover new book bloggers and new books.

Book Blogger Hop

The Book Blogger hop was created for Book bloggers and readers to connect and share their love of the written word. This is a weekly event that lasts Friday- Monday. Rules are as follows:
Grab the logoSpread the word by posting about the hop on your blog. In your post, make sure and answer the weekly question. This week's question is as follows:  How do you spread the word about your blog? (e.g. Social networking sites, book blogging directories, comments on other blogs ...)My answer- I'm big on taking advantage of social networking sites. I'm pretty active on Twitter and Facebook, so when I create a new post I usually Tweet about it and link it to Facebook.
Ok, peeps! Time to hop!  Happy Friday!

Review-With Good Behavior

Happy Tuesday, peeps!

Song of the day- Toxic by Britney Spears

Review:  With Good Behavior by Jennifer Lane

Goodreads blurb:

In a world gripped by organized crime, family dysfunction, and dim hopes of redemption, can true love persevere? For Sophie Taylor, a beautiful psychologist who lost everything when she violated an ethical boundary, and Grant Madsen, a handsome naval officer who sacrificed everything to protect a loved one, finding that love may carry an unbearable cost.

Starting their lives over in Chicago, both are fighting influences from their family and running as fast as they can to escape the past. When their paths cross outside the parole officer's door, the attraction is instantaneous. But a hidden connection may not only shatter their fledgling love, but prove deadly to them both.

My review:

First off, can I just say how much I love the cover? Very eye-catching. When I first saw it, I immediately wanted to know why the military dude is in cuffs. Good stuff!

Sofie Taylor is a psychologist. She's smart, beautiful, has a huge heart and cares deeply about her work and her patients. In fact, she cares so deeply, she winds up falling for one: Logan Barberi, aka, Bad Mafia Dude. I won't post all the juicy tidbits here, but after an unfortunate series of events, Sofie ends up serving time in jail. The story kicks off with Sofie visiting her parole officer, and follows her re-entry into society. She's self-conscious and ashamed of what happened and has a difficult time coming to terms with her new life ... until she meets Grant.

Grant Madsen/McSailor, a shmexy naval officer, is a geat guy with a crappy family. His father is a mafia don, his uncles, cousins, and even his brother, Logan, are all criminals. Grant's uncle, Joe, saved him from a violent childhood and raised him away from his corrupt family. But the Barberi family is powerful and heartless, and when they want something, they usually get it. Unfortunately for Grant, they want him. Grant throws away his naval career, his good name and his freedom to save the life of a loved one. Released with good behavior, Grant meets Sofie at his parole officer's office and the black cloud hovering over him dissipates, and he finds he's got something, or rather, someone to look forward to each week.

The two agree not to talk about what sent them to jail, opting to focus on their future instead. Due to this little pact, Grant has no clue Sofie knew his brother, Logan. And Sofie has no idea Grant is actually a member of the Barberi family. This makes for some interesting reading. I'm not saying anything else, I've spoiled enough already!

I loved the progression of Sofie's and Grant's relationship, and really enjoyed how the author gave these two lost souls someone to lean on during a time when they were vulnerable and unsure of themselves. Jennifer Lane did a great job showcasing the emotional roller coaster the two main characters were on. Several scenes tugged at my heart and had me sniffling, while a handful of others made me feel warm and fuzzy.

The supporting characters were funny and infuriating and added a lot of depth to an already great story. Can't wait to read what happens next.

My rating:  Four stars!

Thoughts on POV

Happy Monday, peeps!

Song of the day- 3 by Britney Spears (Can't wait for Glee tomorrow night!)

Okay, so I've got a question for you today.

If you've started a series, and the first two books are written in first person point of view, would you be upset to find the next installment in third? Would it turn you off so much that you wouldn't want to keep reading?

Or, would a point of view switch up not bother you as long as the writing was good?

Weigh in with a comment and let me know your thoughts!

We've got a guest post today!

Happy Thursday, peeps!

Song of the day- Secrets by One Republic

When Emily Goll, editor over at The Dog Ate My Blog, approached me about doing a guest post here at Cali Cheer Mom, I jumped all over the idea. I've interviewed a handful of authors, but have yet to have a guest blogger over here. I'm happy to say, that is no longer the case.

The Cali Cheer Mom blog's cherry has been popped!

The following is a fascinating look into the history of cheerleading (very appropriate topic given the title o...
