Quick review- Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane
Happy Thursday, peeps!
Song of the day- No Sleep Tonight by The Faders
Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I've been following the reviews for this series for a while now, and just haven't had the time to dive in until now. I'm glad I finally made the time.
Loved the world building in this book. Stacia Kane paints a vivid picture of Downside and I was able to see the grit and the poverty and darkness of the city in my head as I read. Great job.
While I really enjoyed Chess, and her many layers, I didn't care for her drug abuse. I overlooked it for the most part because I believe it was essential to her character and the story, but there's a part of me that cringed every time she popped a pill. And when she plucked a baggie of purple pills off a dead guy I thought I might be sick. Eww! Kudos to the author for painting a realistic picture of what a junkie probably acts like.
I also enjoyed the fact that Chess is into Terrible, who is not your typical hero. He's large and imposing, yes, but he's a killer and ugly as sin. Love how, as Chess gets to know him, she starts seeing him differently, which is so true of how relationships really work. When we grow to care about someone, our perception of them changes, for the better. Can't wait to see how their relationship progresses. I much prefer Chess with him than Lex. She's formed an actual relationship with Terrible, Lex is just a booty call.
I did have some trouble with the dialog or "Downspeak" as I've seen people refer to it. I had to reread a few sections because of this, but ultimately, it didn't sway my opinion of the book.
I've already purchased book two and can't wait to dive in again. If you haven't read this series, I definitely recommend it.

Woohoo Wednesday!
Happy Wednesday, peeps!
Song of the day- Club Can't Handle Me by Flo Rida (Love this song!)
Woohoo Wednesday is a weekly feature here at Cali Cheer Mom. Instead of letting ourselves get mired down by all the yuck that happens during the week, we look back at all the good that's happened and share it. Something good happen to you in the past week? Have something you're thankful for? Weigh in with a comment! Woot! The family and I went to Disneyland! We kept the girls home from school on Friday and headed out early for a fab weekend at the Happiest Place On Earth. The weather was great, good times were had, and World Of Color was amazing. Looking forward to my first book signing on the 26th. Just ordered a bunch of swag that should be here any day, and received a box of books in the mail yesterday to sell and sign. Woot! While I'm not happy my daughter got in a fender bender the other day, I am quite thankful she and the other lady are ok. Thank you God for watching out for my baby!Hope you all have a wonderful day!
Oh! One last thing. In case you missed my last post, I'm seeking donations for my daughter's cheer gym raffle. Books, swag, anything you can part with would be greatly appreciated. The raffle supports the parent club which buys all of the goody bags, prizes, trophies etc for the athletes. The girls work hard, and we'd really like to earn a decent amount of money to shower them with good stuff for all their hard work. Contact me if you can help in any way. Thanks!

Calling on my author friends!
Quick post here to ask a favor.
My daughter's cheer gym is hosting a raffle during their pre season rally and I'm donating a signed book. All proceeds from the raffle go to the parent club, which in turn uses the funds for things like food, cups, plates, napkins, special clothing for prizes, goody bags and trophies at the end of the year.
If you would be willing to donate a book or swag to the cause, I'd be honored and forever in your debt. I know for a fact we have several avid readers in our gym, and with me there during the week, pimping books left and right, I'm positive the donated books would benefit the raffle. Not to mention, you'd get a decent amount of exposure. We're expecting 300 people.
If you're interested in donating, please shoot me an email at Lisadeanne@prodigy.net

Review-The Redhead Revealed
Happy Thursday, peeps!
Song of the day- Just Can't Get Enough by Depeche Mode
The Redhead Revealed by Alice Clayton
[image error]
Goodreads blurb:
As their careers catch fire, Grace and Jack -- everyone's favorite foul-mouthed, funny, and feisty couple -- find themselves on opposite coasts. Grace has landed in New York City, where she loves being onstage again, particularly because she's playing a fabulous character in a musical written by her old college flame, Michael. Their rekindled friendship makes exploring the city that much more fun.
Wait, it's just friendship, right?
Meanwhile, in L.A., Jack can scarcely keep up with the swirling throngs of women who track him everywhere he goes, the endless press appearances, and the ridiculous rules his manager, Holly, keeps concocting for him -- all part of the buildup to the release of Time, his steamy new film.
Thank goodness for phone sex.
But even when their schedules allow them to connect, Grace and Jack must keep their relationship off the radar and away from paparazzi cameras. Sure, the sex is sensational, but can this duo survive swirling rumors, the demands of their chosen professions, Grace's raging internal battles, and a whopping nine-year age difference?
Tick-tock, the clock is ticking. Isn't it?
Alice Clayton brings the second installment of a tale told with her magical mix of humor and heat, so cuddle up under the sheets and flip on the Golden Girls. Grace and Jack are at it again
My review:
What can I say? I absolutely loved this book, which, of course, is no surprise since I loved the first installment in the series. With witty dialog, a sexy male lead and tons of delicious shmexy times, Alice Clayton hit the ball out of the park again.
Grace Sheridan is a great character. A woman in her early thirties whose career in show business is finally taking off, she displays a great mix of confidence, wit, self-consciousness and at at times ... denial.
Girlfriend finally has the job of her dreams playing the lead in a broadway production, but attached to that dream is an ex-boyfriend, Michael, who still carries a torch for her. And on top of the rising career, she's got a shmexy 24 yr old british actor who thinks the sun shines out her ass and loves her more than life itself. Redhead is one lucky girl! Her dialog is the best! Love how she refers to her girlie bits as her "oonie" and counts down the hours until she can have "boom boom" with Jack.
Um ... yeah ... I so didn't like Michael. Don't get me wrong. He's a well written character, but he's not Jack Hamilton, so therefore I hate him. Lol! Honestly, the author could have written 350 pages of non stop smut between Jack and Grace and I would have been a happy camper. The two have incredible chemistry and I love, love, LOVE them together.
So let's talk about Jack Hamilton. (Squee!) Hollywood's new "It Boy" with a super sexy accent and the body and hair to match, Jack is a big bag of yum. And oh yeah, he's got a mouth to die for and magic fingers. Woot! I love how the author kept him real and down to earth. As popular as his character becomes, he never turns into an asshole. Boyfriend just wants his Grace, wants to fall asleep holding her boobies and maybe watch a few Golden Girls episodes. Too cute!
Favorite scene:
I've got a few, but I think I'm gonna go with the car scene when Jack is finally able to visit Grace for the first time. Whoa, baby! (Fans self) Hot, hot, hot!
Grace instructs the driver to drive to Grant's Tomb instead of Jack's hotel. When he asks why, she replies
"Well, I could've asked him to drive around while you @!*$ me until I black out, but I wanted to uphold at least a modicum of decency."
Favorite nicknames: Bossy Bad Girl for Grace, and Johnny Bite Down for Jack.
My rating: Four stars!
