Appearing in the news today!
An article I contributed to was published today! Titled “Frontier women”, the feature looked at the phenomenon of women writing speculative fiction in Australia. The fact we have such a vibrant field of women writing spec fic in Australia bucks the trend of the international market, where SF, Fantasy and Horror are dominated by male writers. Here in Australia in the past 10-15 years, there’s been clear upswing in the number of women being published in the genre, across all areas of spec fic,...

A proper holidays day
Today we really did have holidays. I had two extra kids from 8am, which was, hmm, noisy! Not at all conductive to work of any kind, especially as I wanted to ensure the two ring-ins didn’t annoy each other too much (ah, sibling love!). We lasted about two hours (after dropping friends at airport) while Miss Six napped, recovering from her sleepover last night, then I chivvied all five into the car and we went OUT. Didn’t do dishes, didn’t do washing, didn’t vacuum and didn’t do anything else...

Snapshot 2012 – it’s done!
Well, there might be one or two late interviews to come, but it seems that the 2012 Snapshot is over! It’s been amazing – we completely smashed our previous number of interviews, hitting almost 160 interviews in seven days (but with a MUCH bigger team this time!). The interviewers all did a marvellous job and it was great working with them – David, Jason, Sean, Mondy, Kathryn, Helen, Alex, Tansy and Alisa, woohoo, we did it!
If you missed any of the interviews over the past week, don’t worry...

Snapshot 2012: Nyssa Pascoe
1. Zombies are a passion of yours <http://undeadstudies.wordpress.com/> – where does this interest stem from and where do you hope it will lead?
I think it started when my mother died when I was 8. I went through quite a few years reading horror magazines and R L Stine. Then I got into fantasy and really didn’t do any horror for quite some time, but in recent years I’ve been thinking more about why I’m interested in what I am and what roles spec fic plays in society – and it’s very much greater...

My thoughts on “Single Father” (David Tennant mini-series)
I can’t remember who recommended I watch “Single Father“, a four episode BBC television drama from 2010, and I don’t know if I want to thank them or yell at them for it! I really enjoyed watching it, but I don’t think I’ve sobbed so much since my cat was run over when I was a kid. It’s emotionally harrowing, probably more so now that I’m a parent than it would have been when I was young (and I won’t lie, probably because David Tennant is heartbroken – who can resist a heartbroken David Tennan...
