Another week down

Where does the time go? Another three days finished at work – just three left! And on the inbetween days, I’m up to my neck in university marking, so super busy. Trying to stay on top of FableCroft, reviews and Aurealis Awards things too – what is this word people say, “boredom”? I know it not! And today there was new Doctor Who – woo! I’m only a newbie fangirl, but I loves it and even though today is Fathers’ Day and we actually have husband home to celebrate, I still stole 50 minutes to wat...

Congratulations Aussies!

Very excited to see the shortlist for the WSFA Small Press Award out today, with stories by two of my favourite Australian writers, Tansy Rayner Roberts and Joanne Anderton, featuring! I really like the way this award works, with blind shortlisting and voting, and it’s fantastic to see, for the third year in a row, Aussie authors on the list. Tansy WON the award two years ago, and a FableCroft story made the ballot last year – very pleased to see two more writers I’ve published work by (and l...

Productivity!

It’s been a busy but apparently productive couple of days. I think I’ll blame the new iron tablets for the fact I’ve felt like getting stuff done and then actually doing it! From Friday to today I have:

input all the tax info into spreadsheet and sent both electronic and postal copies off to the accountant.
completed washing (folding forthcoming in front of Life on Mars tonight!).
Started marking first batch of uni assignments (and sent first one off to moderation by lecturer – on track!).
Taken...

Another two days down

Two more days done and ticked of the diminishing tally of days left at work. Just SEVEN left! I woke up this morning thinking somehow it was Friday, but luckily remembered before too much damage was done (except an email apologising to a friend for missing our Skype meeting – which I hadn’t!). Today has been very productive in small ways – had my first appointment with new GP and I’m very happy. Thank goodness! Followed that with a walk to the Mac Shop to take in non-starting Air (verdict: is...

CBCA Book Week blog challenge

I’m late to the party (first chance I’ve had to blog this week!) but what kind of CBCA judge would I be if I didn’t take part in this Book Week challenge, laid down by my friend and fabulous author Tansy Rayner Roberts?! Tansy challenged us to blog about our childhood reading experiences. While I could probably ramble on for a dozen posts about this, as I’ve pretty much always been a voracious reader, I just know I won’t get a chance to do more than one, so here it is!

Good grief, Black Beauty...

More days go by – time flies!

I really don’t know where time goes to these days. When you’re a kid, a year drags by forEVER, but these days, it seems you can blink and miss entire months! I saw a meme today that said it’s 19 weeks until Christmas. WHAT?! In between now and then, I’ve got two kid birthdays, my birthday, husband’s birthday, a new baby, parents’ anniversary, a nephew birthday, a niece birthday, two trips interstate, finishing up a job, four bouts of uni marking (thus far), and the end of a house lease to dea...

There’s a reason many mothers give up work

I had Monday off as I was ill. At 11am today I got a phone call asking me to collect my sick six year old. That means I worked a total of about one and half days this week. Given I’ve now got just nine working days left at this job, that’s a big time impact! I’ve written before about how hard it can be when you’re basically a single parent most of the time, trying to share one allocation of sick days between four (soon to be five!) people, and weeks like this one make you even more conscious...

Yes, it’s been busy

I gave myself a day at home alone today, with the intention of finally hooking in to the new course I enrolled in. Ah, the best laid plans… I initially looked like having from 8.30 to 5.30 to myself. But then Miss Six’s playdate cancelled. Then Master Nine’s soccer cancelled. So that cut the time down. I booked Master Two in to daycare, figuring today was a good day to get my one hour sit around blood test done, and at least I’d get a few hours study in. I dropped the kids off at respective p...
