In search of a good cup of tea

I like a nice cup of tea. I’m quite content with a good teabag at home, though I experiment with loose tea in a pot too. But I’ve noticed recently how hard it is to get a decent cup when we’re out and about. So few places offer an authentic tea drinking experience! When I pay for tea (and I’m not talking about anything fancy, just a regular tea), I would like loose leaf tea in a teapot, with a china cup. I don’t want a teabag in a teapot. I don’t want a takeaway cup when I’m sitting in. I don...

Saturday driving

Loaded up all the kids (plus bonus Flinthart offspring) yesterday morning and hoyed ourselves off down to Hobart. Dream run down (after 10 minutes by the roadside just after we left, when I realised all the podcasts and music were missing from my phone!) with no stops (no crying baby! no urgent toilet breaks!) to enjoy a lovely four or five hours with Tansy, Finchy & the girls. Far too many ideas now racing through my brain! I love having such creative friends. Not quite as good a trip home,...

I’m a once per week blogger

Another week zooms by. I’ve been frantically trying to catch up on my emails, while trying to keep up with the kids’ school and extra-curricular activities, and get two books to print. And I DID get the books done, woo! But still a lot to do before they come out at Conflux – making the book is just the start! (If you’d like to pre-order at a special early bird price, see the FableCroft blog).

We had some news today that is very exciting but also kind of draining – more when I can properly anno...

What I’ve been listening to

I don’t get an awful lot of time to listen to podcasts or audiobooks anymore. I don’t do huge chunks of driving as often as I used to, and when I do, it’s almost always with kids in the car. However, when I DO get the chance, I try to catch up on my local spec fic podcasters.

Here’s something you should know about me: I’m relatively intelligent, but the thing is, my spec fic circle friends are all WAY smarter and better read and cooler about EVERYTHING than me! And my spec fic friends feature...

Could I borrow a cup of motivation, please?

It’s been two weeks since my last update and I’ve lost all motivation to do things! We’ve moved, I’ve handed the keys back on the old house (after a number of annoying issues with the removalists and exit stuff, but anyway, moving on) and now I’m supposed to be unpacking. I’m procrastinating on this by working on publishing (which, if you’re going to procrastinate, is a good compromise) and actually getting through some reading again, for the first time in months. Heck, I even did some applyi...

New Who in Conversation: Partners in Crime (S04E01)

David is coming to New Who for the first time, having loved Classic Who as a kid. Tehani is a recent convert, and ploughed through Seasons 1 to 6 (so far) in just a few weeks after becoming addicted thanks to Matt Smith – she’s rewatching to keep up with David! Tansy is the expert in the team, with a history in Doctor Who fandom that goes WAY back, and a passion for Doctor Who that inspires us all.

We’re also joined today by guest viewer Lynne M. Thomas, co-editor of the Hugo-winning book Chi...

Welcome to the end of the month

How is it the end of January already?! Time is definitely speeding up, I’m certain of it!

Big news this week is we finally got a house to rent! It’s even in the same area as we’re already in, though not nearly as conveniently located and being quite a bit dearer than we’re already paying. However, it’s a bit bigger (5 x 3!), and is in a nice quiet cul de sac, so should be a good move. Removalists booked in for next Friday, so now really have to get moving on the packing thing. Yuck.

I’ve been m...

Busy week

It’s amazing how quickly time races when you are busy. This past week or so has been a blur of socialising (mostly kids), house hunting (still no luck) and publishing activities (whose silly idea was it to put two books together at the same time?!). And just like that, another week is gone!

We had extras here for most of the time – Miss MauMau spent Sunday through Friday here with us, while her mum and brothers were away, to give Mr Flinthart a week on his own. The kids had swimming lessons ea...
