More FableCroft updates!

I've had lovely visits today from Tansy & Finchy and the girls, followed up by Mr Flinthart, all of which leads to a more energetic, enthused me! Creative conversations with awesome friends for the win! So I managed to get a few more FableCroft jobs done this evening.

Job 1: An Aurealis Awards special on After the Rain, to celebrate Thoraiya Dyer's shortlisting for her story "Fruit of the Pipal Tree". Just $15 including postage!

Job 2: A class set special price on Worlds Next Door – 50% off or ...

FableCroft Publishing update!

I've had a tough time getting to work on FableCroft business this year, so making the most of this week to catch up on things. The first job was to do the pre-orders mailout of To Spin a Darker Stair – TICK! All those lovely people who pre-ordered copies now have them winging their way to eager hands :)

Next job was to fight with Paypal and the FableCroft website to create a new button for purchase – TICK! The FableCroft shop page now has To Spin a Darker Stair (and of course all the other...

Family pics

While I was away at the CBCA Judging Conference in Adelaide last week, I was lucky enough to have my aunt, my cousin and her fiance stay to look after the kids. I think they had fun!

Congratulations to the Hugo Award nominees!

The Hugo Award shortlists were announced this morning. There are some excellent works on the ballot, a number of which I nominated myself, but of particular excitement is the Fancast category (a provisional category this year – long may she prosper!), where my friends Alex, Alisa and Tansy (and producer Finchy!) are recognised with their feminist SF podcast, Galactic Suburbia! Well done to the GS team! Also featuring in this category is the Coode Street podcast with West Aussie Jonathan...

Catch up time

It's been ages since I've properly posted, and there are good reasons for that. Some I will share and some I won't (yet) and none in this post! This is my list of things I must achieve over the coming nine days of Easter break! In not necessarily any particular order:

mail out To Spin a Darker Stair pre-orders (and other assorted book release jobs!).final edits and layout for Epilogue – if possible, get to printer.proofing for TPP (I think).finish new version of TPP/FC catalogue.finalise...

New Who in Conversation: The Shakespeare Code/Gridlock (S03E02/03)

David is coming to New Who for the first time, having loved Classic Who as a kid. Tehani is a recent convert, and ploughed through Seasons 1 to 6 (so far) in just a few weeks after becoming addicted thanks to Matt Smith – she's rewatching to keep up with David! Tansy is the expert in the team, with a history in Doctor Who fandom that goes WAY back, and a passion for Doctor Who that inspires us all. We're going to work our way through New Who, using season openers and closers, and Hugo...

Aurealis Awards Shortlists

2011 Aurealis Awards finalists announced

SpecFaction NSW, organisers of the 2010 and 2011 Aurealis Awards, are delighted to announce the finalists for the 2011 Aurealis Awards.

Judging Co-ordinator, Tehani Wessely, said that with over 700 entries across the thirteen categories, the judges had a difficult job.

"Overall, the judges agreed that entries were of a high standard. In a number of the categories the judges informed us they had trouble coming down to a shortlist of five, with many...

Last chance to pre-order To Spin a Darker Stair!

I opened a parcel at work today, expecting it to be one of a zillion Fishpond books I'd ordered, and stared in some bewilderment at the cover of the gorgeous little book that came out – this was MY book, which is not printed yet! How did Fishpond get it?! And finally the penny dropped and I realised it was my proof copy of To Spin A Darker Stair! It's a great conceit for me to call it MY book, because the credit for this beautiful little gift book belongs fully with the authors (Catherynne M ...

It's Ditmar nominating time!

The nomination period for the Ditmar awards is now open. All works must have been published for the first time in 2011 to be eligible. There's a quite comprehensive list of eligible works for all categories over here – if there are things missing, you can add to it, cos it's a wiki :)

Once you've figured out what you'd like to nominate, head over here and do it! Just about everyone is eligible to nominate (to vote on the final shortlists, you have to be a Natcon member from 2011 or for 2012...
