Motivational Mondays: Shine
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? …Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do … It's not just in some of...

P.P.I.F.: Why These Two?
While my first four launched copies of Gini Koch's Touched By An Alien trek their way into the hands and hearts of what I hope will be five or more readers each, rather than wait to see if my zany idea will work, I've chosen two more books for PPIF.
Why these two books and why two at once?
Both books equally blew me away. While they are vastly different, they have a few things in common, too. Each has a heroine struggling to accept who she is, and what the consequences of her 'power' are. Both ...

Quotes to Write By?
Over the years, my irreplaceable career coach, Ann Charles, and I have come up with our own little stable of quotes to write by. Some are our own, some not. Here are my current faves:
"Author Up!"
"Grow a Pair!"
"Think Big. Bigger Than That."
"Authorhood. It keeps a bitch humble!"
So, reader, what words do you find helpful to live–or at least, laugh–by?

Author…Rockstar?
With all the cool changes Independent publishing and digital publishing are bringing to the industry, I think more and more, books will be only part of the reader to author experience. How cool would it be to be able to rock a signed t-shirt of your favorite series, flaunt a mug with a character quote or dangle on your bookcharm on your keys for all to see? And all before those books even get made into movies!
I believe in the author as a franchise. And I may not be the only one.

Motivational Mondays: Rest!
Today, I'm posting late. Last week, I did too much, slept too little and Saturday, my neglect hit me. I got sick.
An Urgent Care visit and day of antibiotics later, I'm still pretty run down. I need more than a little motivation. How about you?
A couple years ago, for Desert Rose RWA's monthly meeting's program, the fabulous Jennifer Ashley gave a talk. One of her key points about treating your writing as you would a business, is remembering to rest. To take care of yourself.
But, but…how...

P.P.I.F.: A Book Off?
I love PPIF Fridays. I love reporting news on Touched By An Alien's progress out on it's four book five reader launch. I love giving tips you can practice to help your favorite author advance their career.
But, I don't always have a new tip. And I don't always have news to report. So, I've been thinking. How can I expand this idea of paying a read forward?
I'll contact a women's center and donate books and time. (check)
I'll add an author/book to PPIF! (…uh…)
But, I can't decide what author and i...

Hump Day Updates: #18!
My biggest news is Play Fling's current ranking as #18 on Smashwords 25 Bestseller list. WOO HOO!
Their site wide sale ends this Friday so you still have time to get lots of FREE to almost FREE reads.
To celebrate, I'm giving a signed copy to a randomly drawn commenter from today through next Wednesday, August 4th. So make sure to comment any old thing to be entered to win!
Speaking of August 4th, that will also be my first Mama appearance at Plot Mamas! Yep, we are officially launching August 1...

Motivational Mondays: Buckle Up!
"Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way."
— E.L. Doctorow
Hopping along the 1Romance Blog Tour this weekend, Victor J. Banis' post got me thinking about the dark we write in and ways to allow light to come in. I've always loved the Doctorow quote above. Being a panster plotter blend, I tend to keep about three chapters in my mental headlights.
Sometimes, I still get lost from a wrong turn or get stalled ...

P.P.I.F.: To The Third!
Excellent news! Book two, of the four Touched By An Alien books I launched, has been forwarded to a third person! Chances that at least one of these babies will reach five readers and then come back to me are looking good. Phew!
Here's what reader #2 had to say:
"Thought it was pretty good. I found it hard to put down."
I totally agree.
For fellow fanatics, Gini Koch has created Team shirts. I'll be getting my TEAM MARTINI tee for my birthday!
