March 16, 2023: This Is Your Last Chance To Join The Hack & Slash Kickstarter Campaign

Later today, our Hack & Slash project on Kickstarter comes to a close and we'll start work on manufacturing the items needed to fulfill the campaign's rewards. All of the creative work is done, the printing is taking place in the U.S., and we think everything is on schedule to deliver as planned. If you've not yet given Hack & Slash a try, there are reward levels in the Kickstarter project that include the game and expansion, making it easy to grab the entire set all at once.

March 14, 2023: Sneak Peek: Steve Jackson's We Love Cats Coming To Game Stores This Fall!

Steve leaked news of one of his upcoming games, Tabloids , in a Daily Illuminator last month (posted here), and now I'm taking it on myself to share another one of Steve's designs that is scheduled for a late 2023 release.

We Love Cats , currently planned at $9.95, is a fast-playing dice game about adopting cats. Packaged in the same size box as One Roll Quest (first edition) and 12 Dice of Christmas , We Love Cats includes two custom six-sided dice, 30 tokens, and a bag to carry everything, making this a portable family game you'll pull out at restaurants for many years to come. 

This sneak peek is so early that we don't even have a webpage for the game, but that doesn't stop us from sharing the news: We Love Cats is coming to game stores worldwide late this year! The dice are currently in the tooling stage at the factory, the design work is complete, and we'll pull the trigger on printing just as soon as we receive (and approve) the dice samples.

March 13, 2023: Munchkin Now Available On iOS & Android

The highly anticipated launch of Munchkin on mobile has come! Dire Wolf's digital Munchkin has been in early access on Steam (and is still available there as well), and after a number of updates is now available on both Android and iOS. Now you can Kick Down The Door and get to Level 10 on the go! Or in the bathroom, where I assume I'll be doing some of my monster killing. 

The mobile version has the same awesome gameplay of the original Steam edition, with tweaks to make it usable on phones. However, cross-platform play is available, so you can play with your friends no matter what version they have! Video game Munchkin has been one of the most requested games over the years, and it's great to see it not only be successful, but continue to add more ways for people to play. With even more people picking up the game, who knows what Dire Wolf may be able to add?

March 10, 2023: Wiz-War Pre-orders Closing Soon

The latest edition of Wiz-War is completing production at the factory and expected to go onto a ship late this month or early next month. The new edition, designed by Tom Jolly and developed by Steve Jackson, takes the game to its classic "take that" roots and returns the action to a wizard fight unlike any other. With illustrations by Phil Foglio, this new edition marries the time-tested mechanics with a new visual style that's sure to appeal to fans of Munchkin , Hack & Slash , Chez Geek , and other Steve Jackson Games hits.

If you miss this pre-order opportunity, fear not! Wiz-War is scheduled for distribution release late this year and will be offered to game stores worldwide. March 9, 2023: Hack & Slash Promo Cards, Playmat, And T-Shirt Now On Kickstarter

We released the Hack & Slash expansion earlier this year, and now we're adding even more content to the game with this Kickstarter campaign. The heart of Hack & Slash  – and the key to replayability – is the game's cards, so the 13 new promo cards we're producing add a lot of depth to the experience. The new promos are a mix of quest cards and Treasure cards (Treasures were introduced in Hack & Slash 2 ), and the easiest way to get them all is to back the Kickstarter campaign today.

Of course, since these are promo cards, they'll see staggered release once we fulfill the Kickstarter campaign. We often add promo cards to Warehouse 23 orders and send them to conventions, so you can alway choose to wait and try to collect a complete set by finding the cards in the wild. But the absolute best way to guarantee you have a complete set is to join in the Kickstarter campaign.

In addition to the new promos, we're also offering a Hack & Slash playmat and a T-Shirt. The playmat was designed to work with the core game and expansion, so it's a better buy if you own both of those. March 8, 2023: Kickstarter Reports, March 2023 Update

In 2022, we expanded our Kickstarter activities and we're showing no signs of slowing in 2023. Over the last few years, including those pre-pandemic years of 2018 and 2019, we have watched as the distribution network changed. Where once we could reliably produce a new game and then get a year or two to promote and sell the title, now far too many of our releases are one-and-done, making it more difficult to justify some of the smaller and stranger projects on our schedule.

Fortunately, Kickstarter has proven to be an incredible launchpad for ideas. From niche game expansions like The Rose Labyrinth to new editions of cult classics like Wiz-War , crowdfunding at Kickstarter has given us the opportunity to continue doing what we love best: making games. We continue to work at improving our processes and project management skills, and we know that no matter how hard we try, crowdfunding will always throw new wrenches into the gears to impact our plans. Still, despite a few delays, our overall track record is improving as we deliver more and more projects on – and sometimes ahead of – schedule.

What's next? Steve's Tabloids game (first mentioned here) is coming soonish, but we also have the Choose Cthulhu books (mentioned here), new Pocket Boxes, and more in the works. Before those, though, we have a Hack & Slash Kickstarter campaign that is scheduled to go live today. The Hack & Slash project will ship to Canada, the EU, the US, and the UK and is slated to run on our Warehouse 23 account.
