February 25, 2023: Wiz-War Pre-orders Now Open!

Did you miss joining the Wiz-War Kickstarter campaign and want a copy of the game? Pre-orders are now open at BackerKit! This newest edition of the classic successfully funded in January, is wrapping up manufacturing at the factory, and should be on the boat in April.

We'll ship the game to stores late this year, once we have finished shipping the Kickstarter rewards and BackerKit pre-orders, so there will be another chance at the game if you miss both the Kickstarter and pre-orders. You can avoid that fate, though, by placing your pre-order today. We'll ship the games just as soon as we can!

Our latest custom die project has shipped to distributors, and you can now find the Seven Deadly Sins Die at your favorite local game store. This 14-sided die features each of the seven deadly sins twice, giving us an odd-numbered result without forcing our minds to compehend the bizarre shape of a seven-sided die.

You don't know where the closest game store is to your home? Use our store finder to find the nearest stores! And if your local store doesn't have the Seven Deadly Sins Die available, you can find it at our online store or at Amazon.com. February 20, 2023: One Roll Chronicles . . . 2?

Last year we released the first edition of Steve's One Roll Quest micro-RPG. Using a single die roll, you and up to four friends go on an adventure that encourages you to tell the tale of your brave exploits. The game's light, free-form nature is perfect for snapshot diversions between bigger games, and it has sold a few thousand copies in this tiny, inexpensive first edition version of the game. The game is far from serious and is great for your group to tackle as you wait for the others to arrive for a game session.

We followed the release of One Roll Quest with One Roll Chronicles , an adventure for one to five players. The adventure booklet includes a total of nine different encounters and requires you to make a series of rolls – and decisions – that expands the core mechanic out from a few moments of silly fun to a session that is sure to be filled with laughs and disaster. The Kickstarter campaign for this adventure did quite well and after a few chats, we decided to produce a second edition of One Roll Quest . That new edition is now on the boat, is scheduled for global release, and includes both the core game, the adventure, and the Kickstarter stretch goals in a single box.

With the second edition of One Roll Quest set for release in stores in a few months, we've started work on One Roll Chronicles 2 . This second adventure follows the same format as the first and is designed for one to five players. The adventure is playable with either the first or second edition of One Roll Quest , and we will take this to Kickstarter just as soon as we can fit it into the schedule. I personally had a great time working on the first adventure last year, so the chance to create a second is a treat I won't squander. When many hours of your week are filled with administrative headaches, being granted a small bit of time to invest in creative endeavors is a rewarding bonus. 

Will there be other entries in this line? Possibly. We'll watch the upcoming One Roll Chronicles 2 Kickstarter campaign and then decide what steps to take next.

February 19, 2023: Game Design Slam?

Yesterday, Phil gave me a game design challenge - use two specific dice (what two? not saying!) to make a game.

My response yesterday evening was "Nothing yet."

But today I walked and thought about it, and came back home and wrote down a little dice game.

And you know what? It was broken fnord.

But after a little bit of play, it got better. This is a personal speed record . . . I don't think this is going to rival Ogre or anything, but it's a cute little pastime.

And it was fun to write something super short.

February 18, 2023: Introducing Irene Zielinski, Marketing Assistant

Hi! I'm Irene. You may have seen my face on the Steve Jackson Games TikTok (or perhaps if you're over the age of 35, in one of the TikTok videos cross-posted to here, Twitter, or our Discord). I've been part-time with SJ Games since late last year, running the TikTok, painting miniatures for STL campaigns and convention demos, and helping with the occasional secret project . . . and I've been told it's about time I introduced myself.

I've been a fan of SJ Games since I was introduced to tabletop roleplaying at the tender age of 11 with GURPS Fourth Edition . Gaming gradually evolved from a hobby to an obsession; I wound up in the tabletop industry full-time in 2021 working at my favorite local game store (Giga-Bites Café in Marietta, GA). Last spring, I joined the MIB program and spent the summer running as many convention games of Car Wars Sixth Edition  as I could manage. It's been not only an honor but an absolute blast to get to work with this awesome team!

I'm currently based near Atlanta, and I study psychology at Georgia State. I love designing and talking about tabletop RPGs and started the #BeggarTok community on TikTok to connect creators focused on indie and small-press roleplaying games. When I'm not studying, gaming, painting, or making Internet videos, I love to hike and kayak with my dog Nelson and girlfriend Em.

I'll be joining Steve at several conventions in the Southeast this year and I'm really excited for the chance to meet more of the community, so say hi if you see me!

February 17, 2023: Fantasy Foes 2: More STL Miniatures

Last year we released a set of STL files for 3D printing hobbyists . . . a growing contingent! They included skeletons (I love skeletons), two different bands of orcs, fighting octopi, and more. I was very pleased with the way that they came out. The Kickstarter was successful, and we continue to get sales. And I'm very bullish on the whole STL market, as I was on PDFs. Electrons are cheap to store and have a very long useful life!

We had originally titled the first set " Fantasy Trip Foes ," but we found out that some people thought the minis were only usable with TFT. Not so! Everybody needs skeletons and orcs, for instance. If you've already got some, you need more! We've gone back and changed that name to Fantasy Foes , and we'll use that format henceforth.

At any rate: here comes a second set. Fantasy Foes 2 includes a horde of crabmen, a gaggle of ghouls, a pack of wolves, and a slither of slimes. There are bears and snakes, too. The stretch goals will add some bigger figures: a couple of hulking ogre skeletons, almost twice the height of regular 32mm figures, and a really beautiful 4-hex dragon created by guest sculptor Conor Malik Flynn. And we would like to see more from him!

Status of this project: the sculpting is DONE. The STLs will be professionally supported (by Facz, as usual), and we anticipate a Kickstarter in May and a delivery shortly after the BackerKit questionnaire closes. All the work will be finished before the campaign starts, even the stretch goals. In the traumatic event that we don't reach all the stretch goals, we'll just do another campaign for the big ones!.

February 16, 2023: Munchkin Digital Gets A New Patch

The team at Dire Wolf continue to support Munchkin Digital throughout the Early Access period with updates 1.1.0, and a few smaller bug fixes in 1.1.2 and 1.1.3. The broad strokes of the newest update include improvements to the tutorials, quality of life improvements with sounds and effects to make card actions more clear, a variety of UI improvements, and some tweaks to help aid players who make some common mistakes. They've also added German to the supported languages! There are also a number of general bug fixes that continue to be ironed out. You can find the list of these and other fixes and updates in the patch notes on Steam. 

As always, thanks to all the players who are helping to report bugs and patiently waiting for these updates! We've seen a lot of improvements, and Dire Wolf's team has been on point in trying to address issues as they appear. We know some folks can get annoyed at bugs, so we really do appreciate the time you take when you take that deep breath and report them to help improve the game. The more Bad Stuff that gets fixed, the better the game is and the more widely it can be launched. Keep playing, and keep reporting those bugs!
