July 3, 2022: One Roll Chronicles, A Rules-Lite RPG Adventure Now On Kickstarter

As mentioned last month (Daily Illuminator post here), we've created an expansion for Steve's One Roll Quest roleplaying game. One Roll Quest is an extremely light roleplaying game, with the core system centered around the roll of the single die included with the game. A lot of the action comes from the interaction of the players and their storytelling skills.  One Roll Chronicles greatly expands on the storytelling possibilities by including several prompts that the players may turn to when playing the game.

How does the game work? Each player (one to five in total) takes one of the character cards, and then the die is rolled . . . once! You then follow the prompts included in the game to tell the story of your adventure. One Roll Chronicles is similar, except that there are nine different encounters, and you'll roll the die at the start of each encounter. The game is so quick and light that we're describing it as "the game you play BEFORE the game you play before the game you're playing that night." Yeah, it's as quick and silly as you think it is.

The One Roll Chronicles Kickstarter campaign comes to a close on Monday, July11, and offers both digital and print editions of the core game and the adventure. (The DIY edition of the game requires you to provide six different six-sided dice, each in a different color, to play the game.)

July 2, 2022: Ogre And LEGO Cross Paths

Our office is packed with brick-building fans – we have many LEGO Maniacs in our midst, from SJ on down. So when we see our games cross paths with the notched bricks, we can't help but smile! At BrickWorld Chicago recently, creator Doug Rau featured his  Ogre  LEGO display (LEGOgre maybe?), and Ogre Line Editor David Rock got a close-up look. And it wasn't just an  Ogre ; there were also representations of the opposition units – and even a facsimile of the classic crater-pocked board. It's a great display of passion for both LEGO and  Ogre , and we appreciate getting to see it. Thanks, Doug!

June 28, 2022: CEO Phil Reed Joins Kickstarter Advisory Council

Recently our own Phil Reed, CEO of Steve Jackson Games, joined the inaugural Community Advisory Council for Kickstarter. This board is designed to bring in a variety of creator voices, not just from tabletop but from the gamut of industries using Kickstarter to fund their projects. Phil obviously has a ton of experience running crowdfunding projects with SJ Games, but some of you folks may not know that he frequently runs his own campaigns, featuring lots of tabletop roleplaying games and some of the most unique items on the platform (did somebody say MiniDisc?). 

Of course, Phil is still our CEO. This will just be another of the many hats he wears. Congratulations, Phil!

June 27, 2022: Car Wars Sixth Edition On Penny Arcade!

Our own Will Schoonover is joining the crew over at Penny Arcade on Tuesday, June 28, at 3 p.m. Pacific (5 p.m. Central) to play some Car Wars Sixth Edition ! It's been a little while since we've collaborated with Penny Arcade, but they have always been great partners (Heck, we even made a Munchkin expansion featuring the comic!). June 26, 2022: The Fantasy Trip Bestiary

It has required years of work, with Steve and Ben handling the heavy lifting (with the help of several others, both staff and freelancers), but we're now seeing the Bestiary come together as a must-grab addition to The Fantasy Trip rolelplaying game. This 192-page hardcover is on our Kickstarter schedule for 2022, and we'll be ready to slot it into the channel once the last bits of creative work have been completed. Our goal is to have the book – as well as the stretch goals – ready to go so that if the crowdfunding campaign succeeds, we can take the book to print and minimize the time between the end of the campaign and delivery of the printed hardcover.

For those outside of the United States, we're also planning a reward level that includes a print-on-demand code for the hardcover book. It won't include the counters and cards (keep reading, gang!), but the code will make it a lot easier for many of you to add the hardcover to your game collection. 

Stretch goals. We've got two bigs one planned – nine counter sheets for the creatures detailed in the book – and monster cards that allow GMs to mix the monsters from this book with those cards found in the Old School Monsters and Decks of Destiny expansions. There may be a few other smaller stretch goals; we're still reviewing the project and making decisions.

We're not yet ready for the crowdfunding campaign, but we encourage you to follow us on Kickstarter – Steve Jackson Games and Warehouse 23 – to receive notice when the Bestiary project goes live.

June 25, 2022: Discworld On Demand!

Where possible, we're adding titles to our GURPS On Demand program. Working with Amazon's global network of print-on-demand outlets, we're able to offer 100+ GURPS books as softcovers that are printed as close to their destination as possible. This makes it faster – and cheaper! – for those outside of the United States to get these books in print than if we had to warehouse them and then ship them direct from our Austin office. 

Recently, we added the Discworld series of GURPS books to the program, bringing both the older edition and the newest edition of the setting's GURPS sourcebooks to gamers everywhere. Discworld Roleplaying Game (for 4th edition) Discworld Roleplaying Game (older edition) GURPS Discworld Also (older edition)How long will these be available? For as long as we can hold the license! That's not forever, though, so we recommend taking advantage of the opportunity while it lasts. Once our license comes to an end, the books are very likely to be removed from the GURPS On Demand program, at which point they'll become much tougher to find.

June 24, 2022: Pathfinder Revolution! At PaizoCon

Our friends at Paizo recently featured the upcoming Pathfinder Revolution!  (follow the Kickstarter landing page today) at their PaizoCon event in Seattle! A few lucky fans got an early look at the project, which will be coming to crowdfunding later this year. Many of you probably recall the original  Revolution!  from some 13 years ago. Personally, it's one of my favorite games from our library. In  Revolution! , players blind bid against each other to buy the support of different guilds and factions in the city using gold, blackmail, and power. These will grant you influence in different areas of the city, and sometimes even grant points directly. 

Pathfinder Revolution! takes the classic game and tweaks it a bit, taking our favorite mix of the base game and the subsequent expansions, adding some slight updates, and fitting it into the legendary world of the Pathfinder RPG . Fans gave us great feedback on the game and very much enjoyed the demonstations. As a fan of the original Revolution!,  plus expansions, I know I have!
