June 24, 2022: Pathfinder Revolution! At PaizoCon

Our friends at Paizo recently featured the upcoming Pathfinder Revolution!  (follow the Kickstarter landing page today) at their PaizoCon event in Seattle! A few lucky fans got an early look at the project, which will be coming to crowdfunding later this year. Many of you probably recall the original  Revolution!  from some 13 years ago. Personally, it's one of my favorite games from our library. In  Revolution! , players blind bid against each other to buy the support of different guilds and factions in the city using gold, blackmail, and power. These will grant you influence in different areas of the city, and sometimes even grant points directly. 

Pathfinder Revolution! takes the classic game and tweaks it a bit, taking our favorite mix of the base game and the subsequent expansions, adding some slight updates, and fitting it into the legendary world of the Pathfinder RPG . Fans gave us great feedback on the game and very much enjoyed the demonstations. As a fan of the original Revolution!,  plus expansions, I know I have!

June 22, 2022: Expanding One Roll Quest

Steve's  One Roll  Quest  rules-light storytelling game started shipping earlier this year and we recently had an idea for an expansion to this fast-playiing RPG.

Our team worked together (and it was fun!) to design a nine-encounter adventure where, using the One Roll Quest basic concepts and components, you take your adventurers all of the way from the tavern and back again. The core gameplay is unchanged, but now you're rolling the special die once for each encounter rather than once for the entire session. Our goal with this booklet was to widen the action beyond a single storytelling opportunity so that those groups who enjoy getting deep into the roleplaying experience have a lot more to do before the game comes to a close.

The new One Roll Quest adventure book is not yet ready for release, but the development and playtesting are coming along nicely, and we plan to sneak this into our crowdfunding schedule later this year. For those of you who already have a copy of One Roll Quest , the upcoming project will offer a chance at just the book. If you do not yet have One Roll Quest,  the new campaign will, of course, offer a reward that includes both the core game and the new book of encounters.

June 19, 2022: The Global Pandemic Is Not Over

Despite what you may see – especially if you live in Texas, where masks have been relatively "optional" throughout the course of the pandemic – the world is not "back to normal." Even today, over two years after the first wave of lockdowns and caution, the world is a wreck and game publishing is still affected in many ways.Shipping, while better than it was a year or so ago, is still slower and more expensive than it was pre-pandemic.Manufacturing, regardless of where you may be producing games and expansions, is slow . . . and the paper issues are driving up costs.Conventions have restarted, yes, but they're far from safe. After members of our team tested positive following conventions earlier this year, we've made the choice to skip conventions this summer. The health and safety of our team comes ahead of the benefits of showing off and teaching games at conventions.None of these problems will go away soon. And despite chants of "make your games in the US," we can tell you from experience that doing so isn't the sole solution. First, not everything can be made in the US. Second, those things that can be made in the US often cost considerably more to produce than manufacturing elsewhere. And third, even the items we can produce in the US are rarely sticking to schedules; the new Car Wars and Ogre playmats are being manufactured in the US, and we're facing delays!

While the world will never return to the "normal" we remember from the before times, we can improve the odds by getting vaccinated, getting boosters when we're eligible, wearing our masks, and doing all we can to reduce the spread of the virus. This includes testing before gathering or after assembling with a large group. If you're in the US, please visit this USPS page to order free COVID test kits.

We will get through this and, on the other side, I hope we get to attend a giant game convention and spend a weekend having fun with friends we've been missing these last few years.

Although the Dungeon Fantasy Roleplaying Game box set is loaded with what you need to play the game, we are often asked by gaming groups: "How can I get extra copies of the books my players need to join in my campaign?" We agree that every player at the table owning a copy of the box set would be overkill, so we've included some of the key books from that box set as a part of our GURPS On Demand program.

June 16, 2022: LibertyCon Interview With SJ

LibertyCon takes place this weekend, June 17-19. Every year there's a charity auction for a personalized promo card, which has traditionally been delivered at the convention the following year. If you're attending, make sure to check out the auction – you might find yourself on a  Munchkin  card!
