Earth Moving is Completed
Earth moving is finally over and the next step is the waterfall, hopefully this weekend. The Care Giving book is out to one reader for feedback and on its way to another. This book is for people in crisis. I need feedback to see if I hit the mark. Fingers are crossed. Then it is on to the last rewrite. Finally. Can’t wait!

Dawn on Little Farm
Today is the beginning of the last week of construction on the new pond, I hope, weather permitting. The crews are coming and Mama Deere and I are going to be busy. Thankfully, the mornings are cool enough to make working in the open with no shade a lot easier than it would be in the summer. Still have to get the pump for the falls in, along with pipes run and the irrigation which will be the part of the project. It’s a good thing that I am still in the rewrite phase of the Care Giving book. Still waiting on the cover design but I am running through ideas for the back cover copy. I get some of my best ideas driving around, or should I say bouncing around on Mama.

New Neighbors
Little Farm has some new neighbors I thought I would share. The herd just moved in across the street. I am having a great time watching and listening to their daily life. Mystic, Noelle and Mackie are really having a great time too, just observing the antics. There has been a lot of braying and mooing going back and forth across the road.

An Evening with the Fawn Book Club
The Putnam Lodge is a historic landmark in Cross City that is being loving restored by its new owners. The ladies of the Fawn Book Club make it a stop on a regular basis for their meetings. I can see why. The setting is delightful and the staff very attentive. But the highlight of the evening was the book discussion after the delightful meal overlooking the lush grounds. These ladies love books and are a writers’ dream for readers. Their comments on the book of the meeting were insightful and thought provoking. Their interest moved into the creation of the books in general and we had a lively discussion about romance and the trends of the industry. Being invited back was a lovely way to end the evening. Thanks ladies!!!

Rain, Rain, Rain
There was a line of heavy rain through last night and it is still going on this morning. Unfortunately, taking pictures in the rain means drops on the lens, hence the streak of white. However, the water on the ground also means water filling the new pond. The picture on the right is the pond landsape revealed without the mounds of dirt from the excavation. Again, I was dodging rain drops, although this time more successfully. Who is having a great time playing in the rain. Will be going to the Putnam Lodge tonight, rain or not, to meet with the Fawn Book Club. Will have pictures and stories tomorrow.

Multi Hat Day
I love Mondays. The week stretches out with all its possibilities. This one promises to be a great deal of fun beginning with a reading and autographing at my local library this evening (see calendar of events for details) and the earth movers working on sculpting the new pond area. Maybe ten more days and this phase of landscaping will be done then it is planting and tilling time. Mama Deere is going to get a work out.

Mother’s Day is Here
My favorite task when I am writing is creating characters. The relationships between people have always intrigued me, especially those of families. Mothers had such a dimension to any character whether the hero or the bad guy or girl. So to all the mothers out there, thanks for getting us all to adulthood.

Waterfall in the Future
The next time I take a picture of these rocks, they will be cascading over the side of the new pond to form a waterfall. After a short discussion with the contractor, he climbed down into the new pond to lay out the fall of the rocks. If the weather holds this weekend, the fall should be laid and then the pump can be hooked up and the water will flow. There is still a number of weeks of work left to finish the job but the end is getting closer all the time.

Say Hi to Little Tree
This is Little Tree. Little Tree was a gift to our church at Christmas so that the children in the congregation would have their own tree to decorate. It was a lovely idea and children loved it. However once Christmas was over, Little Tree needed a new home so she came to me. As you can see there is plenty of room for her to grow. My farm is very young with few mature trees. The acreage was once home to hundreds of pines which have since been logged. Little Tree is a welcome addition as I work to create the vision of the farm in my mind. Maybe this year she will have a friend join her.
I just couldn’t resist adding this picture of Noelle as she tried to talk me into giving her just one more carrot. Her two pasture mates are out of camera range on the other side of me. Both are doing their best to open the bag of carrots. Donkeys are fun, smart and just plain tricky.

New Pond Status
I was out this morning feeding all the animals before getting down to writing. The sky was so clear and the air so clean I just had to snap a few pictures to show off the progress of the new pond. It is slowly filling with water and is a lot clearer than we all thought it would be. The second picture is the waterfall rocks that came out of the hole when we were excavating. Hopefully, they will be laid out later this week. I had a friend along for my early morning photo op. Her name is Who and she is a Border Collie. Who is one of the sweetest dogs I have rescued and also one of the smartest. Tell her something once and she remembers forever. The trick is don’t tell her something you don’t want her to remember.
