Care Giving: Real Life Answers Is Almost Ready
What a way to start the week! I will be doing a reading this evening at the Perry, Florida library with the Friends of the Library. Although printing issues have prevented me from having books to sell this week, I do have a proof copy to read and show. This book is a culmination of a lifetime of care giving, the trials, the tears and the triumphs. I can’t say this was an easy book to write but it was a labor of love, sweat and, some days, tears.

Flowers Are Everywhere
When trees are starting to lose their leaves, Florida turns on the flowers even here in the northern part of the state. Yellows, lavenders and reds pop up in gardens and in the wild. It’s hard to think of winter coming when it looks so much like spring.

I love these yellow plants and so do the butterflies.

Mama is back to work
Mama and I are back to work. We are making progress on the pine clearing. If the weather holds, we should finish this week, just in time for the first signing for my new release, Care Giving: Real Life Answers.

From Our Writing Club
One of our members just completed her first ever quilt. All of us were so excited and impressed that pictures just had to be taken and shared. This beauty is really going to be lovely with the peach toned walls and darker furniture of the bedroom. So, Peggy, just so you know. You did a great job. What’s next?

Mama Got Stuck in the Mud!
Mama and I were working in the pines trees, felling and dragging trees and logs in prep for the winter burn. The storms had turned the ground to mush but Mama was up to the task until we slid on a rock buried in the new dirt from the big pond I just put in. Mama went over on her side and I had to crawl out of the cab into the mud. It took a tow truck and winch to get her on solid ground. Wish I had pictures, but to get close enough to take them I would probably have needed the winch myself. All is well. Mama cleaned up nicely and is back in the thick of the trees clearing rows.

Lightning Strikes Three Times
Lightning struck the house three times. If you have never been in a lightning strike it is truly spectacular. It was as if I was in a world of silver white light so filled with sound that all else was gone. It happened too fast to feel fear. I was more impressed and curious. The storm was still crashing and screaming but checking to see if the house was on fire was a priority. So I hopped into my car and drove around the house in the rain to check. No flames I could see but that didn’t mean I didn’t have a wire burning inside a wall or the attic. A 911 call brought the fire department and a hand held sensor to check for any hidden blazes.
None!!! Now, I am a ringmaster for the various trades and service providers as we try to repair or replace what was damaged. The good news is the house didn’t catch fire and I and my animals are safe.

What is a Pear Apple?
A friend gave me a dozen or so pear apples. Never having heard of them, I wasn’t sure how they tasted. So, being an adventurous sort, I sliced a piece first. A little tart and a lot grainy, I decided the texture reminded me of a raw pear with a mild taste of apple thrown into the mix. However, the fruit is hard and I had been warned that baking them like an apple would take twice as long. I decided to cut the lot up and use my trusty crockpot. It worked and no increase in time was necessary. I froze the result and as soon as time permits, a pear apple cobbler and a bunch of turnovers are in my future.

They may not be pretty but they do taste great when cooked or baked.

I like the crockpot for making fillings that can be frozen.

Labor Day
I love this time of year, the slight cooling in the air and this, the first of the holidays in the holiday season. A picnic, a party or just a lazy day to rest and relax just seems the right way to finish the summer and begin the celebrations that are coming. Have a wonderful day and stay safe!

Tie Flies When—–
It is amazing how tie flies when I am juggling the many facets of my life. Care Giving is with the printers. Sandwiching in designing a cover, the text to go with it and uploading all of the above to the site and working on clearing a pine tree forest is truly a three ring circus. Pictures of both projects will be showing up shortly.
