IMG_0128 - Copy

As you can see I am up bright and early this morning.  You would think a writer’s life would be about sitting in front of a computer screen and diving into a story.  There would be a short break for tea or coffee then back to the fun of creating.  Wrong!  At least not for this writers.  Roll out of bed, let the dogs out, feed the donkeys, dogs and fish, grab my juice and sleep walk my way to the computer to say good morning to my cyber friends.  Today the pond construction continues.  The crew comes to set in trees that winter killed, repair a broken sprinkler and all of us are hauling feeds and riding tractors.  However, the sun is promising to shine after the rains last week.  Thought you might like to see the Suwannee River racing to the Gulf.  Second picture is the boat ramp beneath the bridge.  You can barely see it.

Sinkhole Becomes a Pond

IMG_0073

This spot is a small sinkhole that has been here for a long time.  Since I am going to turn the surrounding seven acres into a habitat area, I thought a pond would work well here.  After a number of experts advised me on all aspects of my idea, construction has begun.

It doesn’t look like much right now but I will keep you posted.

Spring Has Arrived at the Farm

Spring has arrived and I wanted a new look for the blog.  Have had requests for more pictures so I am adding a bunch both on the pages and in the album.  Let me know what you think.  Also, this writer will now be spending quality time on my tractor.  My grass, which is a type of hay grows before I can get to the end of the row.  And with forty plus acres, mowing becomes more than just an hour or two here and  there.  This is Mama Deere.  She and I keep the grass from taking over my world.IMG_0069

Meet the Author at Trenton

First writers workshop
writers workshop

Had a great time at the first writers workshop.  Bad weather the night before affected participation but we ran overtime with questions and answers.  Wayne Griner and his staff at Trenton made the event possible.  Can’t wait to return.

Winter is Finally Over!

Noelle, Mystic and Mackie

Northern Florida in the spring sheds the golds and browns of winter for the bright green of new growth.  The cold gives way to breezes and warmth.  Flowers pop up and my grass sticks its green tips out of the ground at a rate that even two tractors have trouble curbing.  I and Mama Deere, the bigger of the two are getting to work. I thought I would share a couple of pictures.  The group of trees marks the spot where a three quarter acre pond will be going in this year.  Can’t wait.

I am into full promotion mode for Choices.  There are two signings listed on the calendar this week and I am in talks for four more.  Also, I had a wonderful trip over to Cross City Friday to visit with the new owners of the historic Putnam Lodge.  We kicked around a few ideas for some book presentations.  Some are really innovative.  I will share more as things develop.

Hope your area of the country is enjoying this season.  Spring is a new beginning for so many things.  It’s a special time of year to look at possibilities and new paths.  I hope you find one that gives you pleasure, success and happiness.

Research Gems

Entrance to the Telford Hotel.
Main Lobby of the Telford Hotel
Lobby left, costume and just behind register books from hotel--Teddy Roosevelt slept here
The bar against which Shirley is leaning is the real thing. Notice no sitting here. Stand was the order of the day back then.

Shirley Nott and I were out and about researching for her upcoming book, Feathers Fall and mine, Taking a Chance.  We had heard about the Telford Hotel from Sheila Broughton, another writer in our POD who is nearly finished with her book, First Whippoorwill.  We decided to investigate the possibilities of using the landmark in either or both books.

The hotel has a rich history and the new owner,  Reese Brown, is carefully bringing it back to its early glory. Although there is still a great deal of work to be done, the townspeople wanted to enjoy what Reese has already begun so the hotel offers a lovely buffet, life music on selected days and wonderful service.  We sampled all three and have decided this gem, though still needing polish and not officially open yet, was a delight and a wonderful possibility for Falling Feathers and Taking a Chance.

Can’t wait to see what facet Reese polishes next.  There are plans for a murder mystery weekend in early summer.  Guess who is planning to attend?

Had a wonderful time at the Meet the Author event at the Gilchrist County Library in Trenton, Florida.  This well attended event is the third of the series and will be repeated as an annual event beginning this November.  Met a lot of new fans and a couple of writers wanting to improve their skills.  I will be going back with my book, Choices, in April for a workshop presentation.    Wayne and his staff are wonderful at organizing and hosting these gatherings.  He is a great advocate for literacy and I am delighted to be invited to participate in the fun.  Great food is always added for guests and those of us sitting at the tables.  Thanks Wayne and staff for having me!

Care Giving Flyer Debuts Tonight

There is a new writer tip on the Writer to Writer page.  Once again, this is in response to a question about dialogue.  I barely had it posted when the phone rang with a call from a follower asking how did I know she was working on her dialogue.  Timing is everything.

The Care Giving: Real Life Answers debuts tonight at the Meet the Author signing in Trenton, Florida.  This book, more than any other, gave me such a hard time in creating a title.  I finally turned to my friends on facebook for ideas.  The title grew out their suggestions and comments.  I can’t wait to hear feedback tonight when I sign for Choices.

Contest is Over

Choices Giveaway  Contest on GoodReads has just  finished.  There were fifteen winners from the US, Canada, Great Britain and Australia.  I am delighted with the response to the contest.

Also, for those of you purchasing Choices in hard copy, I do autograph.  Simply post your request to my email and I will reply with an address and details.

There is another author reading confirmed and the details will be posted on the events calendar along  with directions.  Currently, I am working on eight more signings for Choices and getting the promotional material ready for Care Giving: Real Life Answers.  As you can see the title has ungone a change.  Trying to pin this book down for titling as been a problem.  I finally threw myself on the mercy of my facebook friends for ideas.  The result is short and to the point.  Finally!

A book trailer for Choices is in the works and I will be posting details when it is completed.  March is definitely coming in like a lion.  What a ride!
