Crystal Ball
Thecrystal ball is broken,
Shatteredin a thousand pieces,
Scatteredon the basement floor
Justwaiting to be swept away.
Athing of beauty in its day,
Filledwith hope and aspiration,
Forwardseeking, always searching
Forthat temple in the sky,
Lookingfor an alibi
Tohide the fear of taking chances,
Fallingvictim to the winds of change
Thefates are bound to bring.
Stillthe sirens softly sing
Theirsubtle songs of dreams fulfilled,
Beckoningto press their will,
Rekindlingthe fire within,
Topick up pieces and begin
Withhope reborn to start anew,
Newdecisions, new directions,
Newcrystal ball to gaze into.

Constant Eyes
Amother’s love is unrelenting,
Imperviousto compromise,
Oftensilent, always open,
Vigilant,with constant eyes.
Nothingelse holds more importance
Thanthe safety of her child,
Everyhope, every dream,
Everytrivial trick or trial
Aremet and dealt with confidence,
Weighingall the evidence,
Dealingout the consequence,
Bothprosecutor and defense.
Igrew up in a home of love,
Nopretention or disguise.
Allthat I am or hope to be I owe to
Mother’sconstant eyes.

Long Time Ago
Had a lot of druthers
In those early days of youth,
Back before reality revealed
The ugly truth.
Could have done a lot of things,
Most anything I wanted.
No one there to dash my dreams,
No memories that haunted.
Could have been a singer,
Then my voice began to change.
Could have been a cowboy
Riding on the open range.
Could have been a lawyer
Out there fighting for a cause.
Could have been an actor
Only fighting for applause.
But over time fate has a way
Of calmly stepping in,
And though sometimes it knocks you down
You get back up again.
Looking back without regret
It now seems clear to me,
What happened then to bring me here
Was surely meant to be.

Until Tomorrow is Today
Each reality of today
Was someone’s dream ofyesterday.
Perhaps unknown,
Unfelt,
Unseen,
A feathered angel lost insleep.
Stealth shadows fromanother world
That slowly seep into themind
And brighten with thedaylight’s touch
Until tomorrow is today
And we can see her rosycheeks,
Feel her warming gentletouch,
Hold the hope that sheinspires
And taste the nectar
In her kiss.

Rainbow Rider
Wistful, waxing rainbowrider
Chasing after stormyweather
Wrangling the hope thatfollows,
Kissing every childhooddream.
Saddled upon coloredhorses,
Rising from a distantland
From horizon to horizon
Spreading joy to everycorner.
Leaping color upon color
Sweet magenta fades toblue
In disappearing majesty
To find the hue ofsunlight’s glow.
Sweet, the arc of yourbright bow
Quickly fades from mortalview.
Happiness is in yourmount
Touching hearts in yourbrief time.
Hope Rises
From the ashes of despair
On a wish
A dream
A prayer.
Thankful just to bealive,
Vision quest
Renewed
Revived,
As the air comes waftingin,
Scented breezes
Gentle friend,
New directions arerevealed,
Untold secrets
Unconcealed.
Lift the darkness from myeyes,
Clearthe way so hope may rise.

Yes, I Can
They didn’t start outwith intent
To shatter every untoldmark,
To set a new goal toattain,
To reach the crest ofEverest,
To pass the dark side orthe moon
And go beyond the Sun andstars.
But somewhere there alongthe way
Someone took notice oftheir deed,
Pointed toward a loftygoal
And set a process in itsplace.
It became like Joltin’Joe
Clipping fast to fiftysix,
Or Ripken’s ironmanmarathon
As he reached theunreachable.
No one claimed that itwas easy.
No one said there’d be nopain.
No one even saw itcoming,
Just a happyhappenstance.
Was it from a childhooddream?
Was it even in theirplan?
Only one thing is forcertain.
When asked,
The answer,
“Yes, I can.”

Pray for Tomorrow
Okay, so today was not sogreat,
Weighted with tribulationand trials
Til it seemed that itwould have no end.
But it did end,
And I survived,
And what, at times, seemed that it might destroy
Only tended to make mestronger,
While burdens offeredbecame lessons learned,
And blessed relief madethe journey worthwhile.
Now, as my head touchesfeathery pillows,
Now, as my eyes cleansethe harsh light of day,
I peacefully pause toreflect on my blessings
And pray for tomorrow
With hope born anew.

Don’t Give Up
Sure, it’s hard.
No one said that it wouldbe an easy ride.
Roads are long
And filled with potholes, detours, roadblocks and asides.
Is it worth
The consequences ofdecisions you abide?
Can you take
The pain you must endureto finally win the prize?
Questions,
Always questions mustneed answering so dreams survive.
Onward,
Always onward, lookingupward, keeping hope alive.
Pausing only briefly fora sip from Inspiration’s cup.
Pressing on with headheld high
Determined never to giveup.

Best Laid Plans
Time again for the boysof summer
To start a journey thatwill last into
The depths of autumn ,
Dwindling down to thefinal two…
The final one.
But now, right now,
Everything is even,
Everyone is champion;
Number one.
Plans and schemes anddrafts and trades,
Every scenario,
Every projection has laida path
To be clearly followed.
All are winners at thisearly stage.
And we will follow
With pencil and passion
Living vicariously to theend.
Some heroes will fall.
Some dreams will fulfill,
Our only duty:
Enjoy the ride.
