Princess Bride
Sleepynation wakes the dawning,
Spiesthe bunting on each ledge,
Somethingspecial stirs the scent of
Incensewafting in the breeze.
Quickto dress in finery
Tosuit such glorious occasion,
Chinsheld high and chests puffed full
Inmaximum anticipation.
Fourwhite horses lead the carriage
Fullydraped in ceremony
Asthe trumpets sound the herald
Echoingglad tidings all.
Outshe steps to breathless watchers,
Daintilyher footfall glides,
Steadfastlyher regal father
Leadshis angel down the aisle.
Nowshe stands before the altar,
Nationswatching, filled with pride,
Andher young prince stands beside her
Proudto wed his princess bride.

Gentlycaressing the
Lace-coverededges of memory
Harboringevery emotion,
AsI feel your Heartshine
Softon my face.
Brighterthan sunlight,
Fresherthan springtime,
Warmerthan summer
Ibask in your glow.
Suppleas willow trees
Free-flowingbranches
Dancingwith breezes,
Ihold your embrace.
Welcomesweet Heartshine,
Comestay a while.

Shifting Sands of Time
Timehas a habit of slipping away
Asshe constantly moves in a finite direction,
Nostepping back,
Nochildhood do-overs,
Onlynow and tomorrow,
Onlyhere and hereafter.
Butthat doesn’t cede that
Thepast holds no meaning,
Orshould be diminished in memory’s vault.
Hertreasures are deep
Andher lessons are many.
Herhalls and her chambers
Linedwith love, dreams and laughter.
Andthough the sands may shift underfoot
Asthe tides roll out,
Asthe tides roll in,
Westand at her shore
Andsearch her horizon,
Amazedat the bounty she holds deep within.

Memory
I’vebeen stuffing my cranium
Seven decades plus with
Theknowledge and wisdom
Ofmemory’s keep.
Sooften my mind wants
Toburst at the seams,
Yetalways finds room
Forthe new and unique.
Dreamsof my youth
Mayhave vanished in vapors
Ormerely transitioned
Tofit circumstance,
Aswhispers of time
Criedout new direction
Andchance took my hand
Andbade me to dance.
Whateverthe course, I pray
Letit continue to
Growand spread light
Sothat others might see.
Andwhen Fate finally calls
I’llleave something behind,
Ifonly a wrinkle
Intheir memory.

A Child’s Folly
Tuckme in and say goodnight,
Nowthe day, at last, is done.
Agentle kiss upon my cheek
Sayseverything will be alright,
Helpsme sleep straight through the night,
Keepsthe monsters from my closet
Onceyou’ve turned off all the lights.
Gentledreams are sure to follow
Ina new world far away
Wheredaffodils play on the hill
WithMother Goose, Jack and Jill,
Andall the king’s horses find their gait
Asthey primp and prance about at will.
AndI have thoughts of being big,
Ido what I see grownups do.
Inever-so simplistic ways
Ibanter through their hectic day
Torecreate the fantasy
Tilmorning’s light comes into play.

Marvelous Angels
Aquick kiss goodnight
Thenoff to Dreamland,
Punchingmy ticket to sweet solitude,
Lollingand resting in quiet seclusion,
Caresbecome vaporous vanishing ghosts.
Farfrom the mad-hatter quicksand reality,
Safefrom the fires that raged at my feet.
Seekingthe freedom the spirit requires while
Sowingthe seeds of replenishing fruit.
Flashescome quickly and stay but an instant,
Notlong enough to scar memory’s core,
Butsomething remains
AsI know upon waking that
Burdensare lifted to start the new day.
Wheredo they come from?
Marvelousangels
Bornof a whisper
Lighterthan air.
Restingwith miracles
Waitingand ready
Tilslumber awakens and calls them to play.

The Cost
Good morning, my good and trusted friend;
So lovely, as always, to visit again.
Can’t seem to remember how long it has been
Since the last timeour two paths have crossed.
Was it late September
Asseasons were changing?
Time loses meaning
With lives rearranging,
And memory fails inthe process of aging
And old friendshipsfade until lost.
But we are forever, and never forget.
We’ll last past thesunset,
No fear of regret.
A boy and his dreamever present, as yet
Unfulfilled, stillweighing the cost.

I Dreamed an Angel
Some believe,
Some deny,
Some have reservations
Having never touched oreven seen
And wouldn’t evenrecognize
The flow,
The glow,
The haunting brilliance
Dancing in her eyes.
But I believe,
Can conceive
The sweet soft features in her face
As she appears,
Consoles my fears
And disappears without a trace.

Sleep Without Dreams
Keeping up appearance,
Dancing the dance of thesocialite,
Hanging on shallow words
Meant to impress,
Breathing the corporatemantra,
Hmmm… ya ya hmmm… ya yahmmm.
Day in
Day out,
Days flow by unyielding.
Not my own…
Someone else’s vision,
Someone else’s profit.
Someday soon I’ll spreadmy wings,
Plot my course,
Find my way.
This nine to fiveexistence
Is like sleep withoutdreams;
Restores the body
But does nothing for thesoul.
But I want to dream…
I have a dream,
And someday soon…
Someday…
Soon.

Waking Up
I know I had a dream lastnight,
But can’t remember it atall.
No details. Not a singleone.
Just a happy glow thatleft me warm.
Spectrums filled withglowing light.
Images both grand andsmall.
A first class flight intothe sun
With hands that keep mesafe from harm.
Something in it feels soright
Answering the siren’scall.
A million treasures to bewon.
No resistance to hercharm.
Landing safely from myflight,
Eyes wide open, standingtall.
Sweet dream lady, comeand gone,
Leaving me to sense hercharm.
