Quip's Cool, Collaborative Word Processor Is Now A Spreadsheet, Too

New features let you crunch numbers inside your text documents--and chat about them with your colleagues.

Quip--the collaborative word processor for iPads, iPhones, Android devices, and the web--is expanding into spreadsheets. But it isn't becoming a suite à la Microsoft Office or Google Apps. Quip tends to do productivity in its own contrarian way, and it's putting spreadsheets inside its word processor.

It's not weird for an audio advertisement to talk to you, except when it's asking for a response in return. That's probably why the first time I heard one of XAPPmedia's new interactive audio ads, I actually missed the opportunity to respond--I didn't realize it was talking to me personally.

Contratados: A Yelp To Help Migrant Workers Fight Fraud

A storytelling tool built by MIT's Center for Civic Media is the backbone of the site, which helps protect migrant workers from fraud and abuse.

Every year, more than 100,000 Mexican migrant workers are recruited to travel to the United States on temporary employment visas (and many more arrive unofficially). They find themselves with little ability to research whether promised wages and working conditions will actually be delivered. In some cases, fake job recruiters even collect application fees from prospective workers, only to disappear without a trace.

AT&T Will Pay $105 Million For Deceptive Billing Practice

Of that settlement, $80 million will be returned to customers.

AT&T will pay $105 million to settle a federal investigation into claims it billed customers "millions of dollars" for add-on services without their consent, a practice called "cramming."
