Well, this doesn’t sound very good…

Sopranos-spinoff

Check out this podcast interview I did with Powder Mage author Brian McClellan…

My new podcast has begun! In the first episode I talk with TV writer/producer @BaronDestructo about his start in children's programming, his transition to scifi with Stargate and Dark Matter, and his current work ramping up for a Powder Mage TV show. https://t.co/Kbs0OTKAn6 pic.twitter.com/lURS60zHU8

I object more to the strawberry than the kimchi.

I was asked to be a guest on a The Fast and the Furious-themed podcast in July so I am working my way through the series.  Halfway through and, I have to admit, with the exception of one bad entry, it’s been a pretty solid watch.

Pepperoni Pizza c/o Maker’s Pizza.

With two pilots in the near future and no less than five pitches on deck, it really feels like I’m headed towards a perfect storm.  Throw TimEscape into the mix and this summer is looking…busy.

Meh.

Some interesting developments on the TimEscape front.  We have one major hurdle to overcome and, once that’s done, dare I say it?  Smooooooooooooth sailing?!

Meanwhile on the home front…

June 18, 2021: Routine!

I grow increasingly annoyed at how even the most mediocre of occurrences are being magically transformed into feel-good stories:

A true feel-nothing story. Now let's all come together in common cause to support the intern who mixed up the lunch orders in the WandaVision writers' room that one time. pic.twitter.com/yKHEV2aCMR

Cinnamon Roll Pecan Pie? Yes/No https://t.co/qwgZ5zhU1k

— Joseph Mallozzi (@BaronDestructo) June 18, 2021

So, are you all creatures of habit or do you prefer the joyous unpredictability of variety in your lives?  I’m absolutely in the former camp.  I absolute love routine and my days often hinge on these comfortably familiar touchstones.  For instance…

I wake up every morning between 7:30 – 8:00 a.m.

We take Suji for three walks: early morning, early afternoon, and a final stroll at around 7:30 p.m.

I’ll always do a 45 minute workout after the first dog walk.

I will strive to be consistent in my tweeting: one food-relate Yes/No post to start the day followed by a K-pop video spotlight followed by two Stargate-related posts (concept art and playback), and the occasional Dark Matter-related post.

I always check the opening of the markets at exactly 9:30 a.m. and position myself accordingly.

I never eat breakfast.

We always eat lunch at 11:00 a.m. – usually a fairly big meal.

We’ll always follow lunch with chocolate.

For dinner – at approximately 5:30 p.m. –  it’s always oatmeal, protein powder, oat milk, and fruit.

I blog late in the day.

I take a shower every night before turning in (Very Japanese).

Akemi and I will watch one anime episode in bed followed by food-related YouTube  videos.

I’ll stay up an hour (or so) later to catch up on finance and market-related YouTube videos.  Specifically: Finding Value Finance, Kitco News, George Gammon, Steven Van Metre, I.M. Trading Inc., Value Investing with Sven Carlin, FASTgraphs, The Popular Investor, Miles Harris, Daniel Pronk, Cameron Stewart, Brandon Beavis, and a few others.

The weekends = stock research.

Not a lot of room for improvisation but, occasionally I do make time to go off-book (ie guesting on a podcast, walking over to the Japanese convenience store for soon sauce and panko, writing/pitching).  Overall though, I like my routine.

Which, of course, will be thrown out the window when my next show gets green lit.

But I suppose I’ll find a way to make it work.

June 17, 2021: I’m investing in the Pitch-Script 300 Bot!

Fun science experiment: Could a world-class AI write a #Stargate script interesting enough for the show's stars to perform at a reunion? Could I be putting myself out of work?

You can help me and @TheCompanionApp find out and get involved here: https://t.co/92KLzJplHy pic.twitter.com/baqliiAPMe

Hmmmm.  If this A.I. can write scripts AND pitch, then I’m making the investment.

Today’s Yes/No…

Apple Pie Waffles? Yes/No https://t.co/uOfqBvfOQY

— Joseph Mallozzi (@BaronDestructo) June 17, 2021

This one earns a resounding MEH.

Pitched Project DW today, that Epic (note the capital E) space opera.  Temporal anomalies, slingshot maneuvers, compromised shields, tethered missiles, spider silk-laced ultra graphene spikes and all.  This one is definitely wild.

Generating a short list of K-pop bands we’re going to go out to for Project F.  I, of course, have opinions.

Was struck by inspiration at 2:00 a.m. the night before last and dashed off a revised take of that classic sci-fi series.  Talked things through with my partner in interstellar crime on this one, author Paul Cornell, and the creative ball is now in his court.  We’ll toss it back and forth, then aim to pitch within the next couple of weeks.  Decades later, this show still gets so much love from science fiction aficionados.

Meanwhile, hearing rumors of that presumably deceased project may be resurrected.  I’ll believe it when I see it and, while I do hope it’s true for all involved, this one is no longer my jam and I’ll be cheering them on from the sidelines.

Hey, have you ever been in on one of those meetings where the person you’re speaking to makes several points and you politely ask them to clarify because they’re not really making sense.  Then, they do attempt to do so but really fail to shed much light on things, so you go through their concerns, point by point, seeking clarification – and they just repeat themselves.  And you grow weary and leave the meeting, assuming it’s just you and everything will become clear when you sit down to address the issues – only to ultimately realize it wasn’t just you?  Yeah, that’s where I’m at.

I’ve seen this movie…

Thousands upon thousands of spiders swarmed Australia’s Victoria state this week. The arachnids appeared after heavy rains hit the area, causing them to move from the saturated ground.

June 14, 2021: Projects on deck! Yes/No!

Busy week ahead!  Pitch on Tuesday.  Pitch Wednesday.  Informal zoom chat Thursday.  And zoom chat with the comic book company on Friday.  In the meantime, I anxiously await notes on Project F as we discuss possibly attaching a K-pop group to the project and, hopefully, securing one of my favorite concept artists for the deck.  Next up: the pilot of that near-future android murder mystery.  Rumblings of pilot script deals on two projects I’m currently developing.  I also have to recalibrate two pitches for two very different projects.  And, of course, later today…
