June 10, 2021: Projects in Play! Yes/No! From the Stargate Vault!
Today, we did the pre-pre-pre-pitch, followed by the pre-pre-pitch in preparation for next week’s pre-pitch for that epic sci-fi comic book adaptation. Matt and Bruce are incredibly smart guys, a lot of fun to work with, and I have no doubt this is the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership – provided Matt doesn’t take his flamethrower out for another spin on the zoom calls with the buyers.
An interesting little development on the TimEscape front that, if all the pieces fall into place, might see me reunited with my brother from another (German) mother.
Some interesting developments on the Powder Mage front that, if they pan out, could make for a busy month.
The K-pop/Sci-Fi pilot is almost there. Meanwhile, we’re looking to engage one of my very favorite illustrators and concept artists to work on the pitch deck – a few character designs, a couple of far future settings and, of course, The Citadel.
Yes, all kind of vague right now, but clarity coming soon!

June 8, 2021: Chocolate, Smashburgers, and Stargate Playback!
First stop was Big Trouble Pizza (235 Spadina Avenue) for their Tuesday (and only Tuesday) smashburger with cheese, onions, lettuce, ketchup, and pickles served with a side of banana pepper.
One of my very favorites in Toronto, a city with some truly standout burger joints.
Next stop was Rudy’s (69 Duncan Street) for THEIR smash burger – served with lettuce, tomato, and Rudy’s sauce. This one is also great. While I preferred the shredded lettuce and onions of the Big Trouble, and felt the Rudy’s sauce a little heavy, the Rudy’s burger patty is outstanding with its thing and crispy ends.
We walked around for a couple of hours in the hot sun, then I came home and passed out for an hour.
Hey, look at what came in the mail!
A chocolate shipment from Sirene Chocolate in Victoria, BC.
Think I may skip dinner tonight.
In case you missed it last night – Actor Sean Cullen! Director Craig David Wallace! The Orville panel! Dark Matter!
Finally, I leave you with some of the Stargate video playback files I discovered in a remote corner of my laptop’s attic…

A Super Ultra Definitive Ranking of LaCroix Flavors!
This list is, sadly, limited to the LaCroix flavors available in Canada. Unlike our southern neighbors, our product choices are surprisingly limited. I mean, it wasn’t until a trip to a local L.A. grocery store several years back that I discovered Ben & Jerry’s offered more than a half dozen flavors.
Anyway, here are my rankings. Your mileage may vary and, if so, would undoubtedly be incorrect….
#16. Hi-Biscusi
Ah, the fresh flavor of flowers in a can. Maybe about as satisfying as licking your aunt’s potpourri.
#15. Coconut
Drinking the equivalent of carbonated suntan lotion is only marginally better.
#14. Peach-Pear
Neither really peach nor pear in flavor. Instead, the two come together to offer something totally unique. Terribly, terribly unique.
#13. Pasteque
I believe that, legally, they must label it as “pasteque” because it tastes and smells nothing like watermelon.
#12. Key Lime
Sparkly vanilla aint exactly a thirst quencher.
#11. Limoncello
This one, along with watermelon, were the two flavors I was most looking forward to trying. And this one, like watermelon, was a huge disappoint although, in Limoncello’s case, it does possess hints of vestigial artificial lemon.
#10. Mango
This one actually does deliver on the mango. And I hate mango.
#9. Grapefruit
I really wanted this to be so much better.
#8. Apricot
This one I was expecting to be so much worse.
#7. Raz-Cranberry
One of our neighbors proclaimed Raz-Cran the best flavor, which leads me to assume she hasn’t really tried selections #1-#6. Still, I would rate this one inoffensive.
#6. Passionfruit
Qu’elle surprise! Passionfruit almost making it into the Top 5. Went in with low expectations and its surpassed them.
#5. Berry
Echoes of the grape soda I used to enjoy as a kid. Doesn’t reach those lofty flavor heights, of course, but pure nostalgia is enough to vault it into the Top 5.
#4. Lemon
Hard to screw up this classic.
#3. Orange
Strangely satisfying if not possessed by a slight underlying bitterness – which could just be my imagination. That or I was drinking from an expired can.
#2. Lime
This one has always been my go-to. The classic.
#1. Tangerine
Like sitting in an orange grove, indulging in fizzy tangerines. I want to bathe in the stuff.
Well, there you have it. My LaCrois rankings. Agree? Disagree? Let’s hear it.

June 3, 2021: The Food Tour!
Akemi and I embarked on a bit of a food tour today, accompanied by our foodie friend, Dr. Blackjack.
First stop was Matty’s Patty’s Burger Club (923a Queen Street West). I ordered two singles with two different sauces – the Matty’s Patty’s sauce (mustard, mayo, ketchup, diced onions and pickles) and the spicy ketchup sauce (ketchup, white onion, La Bomba, black pepper).
Crispy 3 oz smash burgers with American cheese served on sesame milk buns. Delicious.
From there, we took walk over to Nadege Patisserie (780 Queen Street West) where I stocked up on one of my favorite chocolates bars –
The Q (Quatre Noix – Four Nuts), a milk chocolate bar studded with pistachios, hazelnuts, almonds and pecans.
From there, it was a relative short walk to Sanko (730 Queen Street West), our local Japanese konbinya, where we picked up a few necessities…
Specifically, Royce nama chocolates in three flavors: matcha, chocolate covered matcha, and chocolate-covered praline.
From there, we headed down the Stackt Market on Bathurst and my new favorite ice cream shop, Pandoughra’s Box (28 Bathurst St Unit 3-122). They recognized me and already knew what I was getting…
Boozy ice cream flavors: Chocolate Bourbon and Whiskey Salted Caramel.
After dropping the pints off at home, it was a 40 minute trek up to Tokyo Hot Fried Chicken (656 College St)…
….for the Nashville Ice (spicy fried chicken and vanilla ice cream on a brioche bun)…
…which come with a complimentary pair of eating gloves. Yes, it does get a tad messy.
Dinner tonight was a bowl of sautéed snow pea leaves.
The Batman’s Greatest Villain Tournament (1960’s edition!) concluded. And the winner is…
