Jesus, Bars and Brothels
Matthew 8:3 – Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
Jesus never was moved by guilt or obligation. He was moved by compassion and love, which caused Him to get personally involved in broken lives in a tangible way. He chose to touch what no one else would touch. The best way to win people for Jesus is to get up close and personal. Are you willing to step into the uncomfortable places? That’s what compassion and love do.
Declaration: I walk in the compassion and love of Jesus. I am not afraid to touch the lepers in my path.
JESUS, BARS AND BROTHELSSeeking means “to pursue until you see.” That means you don’t give up. You know what causes you to give up? Offense.
“But Pastor Troy, you don’t understand! I did this, and God didn’t do that in return so I quit seeking Him.”
Oh, I understand perfectly. True seekers qualify for finding because the only way you can continue to seek is if you can get past your offense.
“But, PT, Jesus wouldn’t offend me.” Oh, yes. Yes, He will.
What is all that about? It’s all about a method. What if Jesus answers your prayers in a different way than you thought He was going to? Can you deal with the offense of that? Because He will.
Jesus Christ will show up in your life and lead you to a place you were not expecting to go. He’ll show up in a way you did not expect Him to show up and He will do something you didn’t even know Jesus does. You have to be able to deal with the offense that goes with that.
My friends, we have a tendency to put God in a box and say, “God would never….” or “Jesus always…” That’s ludicrous! Jesus goes into prisons, bars and brothels.
When He doesn’t jump through your hoops, fit the mold or meet your “holier than thou” criteria, are you going to get offended, stop seeking and walk away? Many do. But that’s not you. You are a seeker and you will find. You will knock and the door will be opened.
The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, and his glory is to overlook an offense. – Proverbs 19:11

The Word Became Flesh
Esther 8:2 – So the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai; and Esther appointed Mordecai over the house of Haman.
The Lord is your redeemer! He knows the end from the beginning, and He steps into your timeline to bring redemption. In the very place you felt powerless and hopeless, He applies His authority and truth. He declares new beginnings over what has defined you. Invite Jesus into your past to redeem and to restore. He will meet you there.
Declaration: The Lord delivers me from my enemies. He restores all that has been stolen. My past does not define me.
THE WORD BECAME FLESHI love that before He took on flesh and became the Son of God, Jesus’ name in heaven was “The Word” as in “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” That Word spoke time, space and matter into existence and is also testified to by the Word – the Bible.
“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are they which testify of me.” – John 5:39
Jesus is telling His disciples, and you, to get to know the Bible, not because there’s life in the Bible but because “the Bible testifies of Me and there’s life in Me.”
The guy who started the whole Bible is a guy by the name of Moses. We look at Moses very differently than our Jewish brothers and sisters do. Because of this, I want to just encourage you as a Gentile, which I am, to look into the Jewish customs and perspective.
Why? Because so many Jewish things are not just Jewish things – they’re Kingdom things.
Well, how come the Jews don’t get it that Jesus is the Messiah they’ve been waiting for? Because they’re the only nation in the world that obeys the Lord, that’s why. They do it with such fervor and conviction that they were busy living the letter of the law instead of looking for the Lord.
So, don’t be mad at them. By the way, as a Christian, you are also a child of Abraham. You and I rotten old bacon-eating Gentiles are his supernatural seed – the “stars of the sky.” The Jews are his natural children or the “sands of the seashore.”
My friends, pray for your Jewish brothers and sisters, that they would recognize their long-awaited Messiah, King Jesus. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. I don’t mean the absence of conflict. I’m talking about the presence of the Prince of Peace ruling and reigning in the hearts of the Jews.
Pray that the scriptures testify of Jesus to His covenant people today and every day. That all of Israel would say, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord” and be saved.

Jesus is Offensive
Joshua 8:1 – Now the Lord said to Joshua: “Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.”
As we enter a new month, we also enter the new grace and strength for new battlefields in our lives. He once again calls you higher and with that call there is also a promise: The victory is yours because the battle is His. King Jesus is backing you up as you pioneer new paths and step into the vision God has for you.
Declaration: I’m not afraid, nor will I be discouraged. God’s plan for me is good. I trust in Him.
JESUS IS OFFENSIVEI don’t know if we’ve ever lived in a day when people get so offended so fast over things that really don’t matter as today.
Let me tell you, they would have been extremely offended by Jesus. As a matter of fact, He still offends them today because He calls their behavior sin. Because He tells them to repent and live a different way. People don’t like that.
“Pastor Troy, I love me some Jesus and He would never offend me.”
Baloney! You may think that now, but wait until Jesus doesn’t show up when or how you expect Him. Wait until He tells you to go somewhere that isn’t pretty to help somebody that you don’t think deserves it. Oh, Jesus will offend you.
He will tell you to love people whom it is offensive to love just like He did to Jonah. Why does God do that? Because He loves them and wants you to meet Him in that place of loving the unlovable. If you are highly opinionated on the matter, you’re going to stop seeking.
You heard correctly: When you get offended, you stop seeking Him. You either think He wants too much from you or you fall back on the classic, “I tried that Jesus thing once and it didn’t work for me.”
There’s a very offensive side of Jesus. It’s just outright offensive how He’ll show up and tell you to be a giver when you’re broke or tell you that you’re called to the nations, but you’re too broke to catch the bus to Shreveport.
It’s outright offensive that He’ll wake you up at three in the morning and tell you to seek Him. My friend, if you can’t get past the offense, just go back to sleep and miss the most important upgrades of your life.
Do you see yourself here? If you do, repent! Grow a thick skin and say, “Jesus, you can show up when you want, how you want and send me anywhere you want to anyone you want. I don’t deserve your love and mercy but you’ve given it to me because of who you are–not because of what I’ve done.”
Become un-offendable and see where Jesus will take you. It’ll be the adventure of a lifetime, I promise you that.
A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, And contentions are like the bars of a castle. – Proverbs 18:19

Jesus Will Meet You There
John 7:31 – And many of the people believed in Him, and said, “When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?”
Faith and trust are not the same. It’s by faith we believe in King Jesus. Faith is a gift of God. We all are given a measure of faith at birth. Trust comes by experiencing the goodness and love of God personally. This becomes your testimony of where the Lord personally encounters you and shows His love for you. Trust is the result of the faith you have been given. Once you know it, you will need no more signs. It’s enough to make you jump into whatever He calls you to.
Declaration: I believe and trust the promises of God in all circumstances. I’m ready to follow King Jesus wherever He leads.
JESUS WILL MEET YOU THERESeeking proves you want it. What is it? The Kingdom! The Kingdom of God is where Jesus rules and reigns. When you seek the Kingdom, you’re also seeking the King.
As a Christian, the most important thing you can do is seek the heart of King Jesus.
“But Pastor Troy, you don’t understand. I need to get cured of my disease or addiction. I need better relationships and my finances are a mess. I need more faith and understanding of the Bible, and I want to speak in tongues. If Jesus cares about these things, shouldn’t I be talking to Him about them?”
Well, yes and no. Yes, Jesus cares about all those things and more. But this is the key to answered prayer: When you seek Him and the right standing He gives you, you’ve qualified for upgrade.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. – Matthew 6:33
You see, seeking qualifies you for the thing you’re looking for. A seeker is somebody who pays attention to spiritual things. It’s somebody who looks for the Kingdom and goes to the next level in everything they do.
God meets people in the place of seeking. Here’s an example: Any time that you see Jesus say, “Lo” in the Old Testament, He’s saying, “Look for Me.” When He says, “Lo, I am with you always, even to the ends of the earth.” He’s saying, “Look for Me when you get off your map.”
Jesus will meet you in the place of seeking – when you’re out of your element and your comfort zone has been left in the dust. Is this where you are today? If you’re not, get off the couch. Go after the Kingdom. Jesus will meet you there and add all these things that you need.

A Pretty Great Place to Be
Acts 7:30 – “And when forty years had passed, an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire in a bush, in the wilderness of Mount Sinai.”
We all go through times when God doesn’t show up the way He used to. Forty is clearly defined in the scriptures as a time of testing your character and conduct. The Lord tests you to see if you can be trusted before He invites you to a greater capacity in His great plan of redemption. When you find yourself in that time of probation, stay loyal to King Jesus. He is with you even when you don’t feel His presence. Be watchful, because today might be day He appears to you to in a way He hasn’t before. Be ready to respond with your yes.
Declaration: My eyes and ears are anointed to see and hear the Lord’s appearing. I will turn to see the burning bush He places in my life.
A PRETTY GREAT PLACE TO BEWe love everybody and we don’t judge or condemn. In a place like that, it’s very easy to slip into the doors and not have your lifestyle upgraded. Jesus wants to upgrade your lifestyle, He doesn’t want you to live in bondage. We’re not pointing fingers, it’s an invitation to walk into a greater upgrade.
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” – Galatians 2:20
How can a sinner just all of a sudden stop all the things that they’ve done? Simple. They died. What?!?
They finally died to sin. They believe what they read here in Galatians 2:20. They have died and Christ is now living through them. That’s First Love.
First Love is discovering who you really are – your true identity. You cannot uncover who you are until you walk in that position between the Father and the Son. It’s the place where they begin to tell you who you are.
If you try to figure out who you are in your own wisdom, you’ll get it all backward and upside down. You need to be able to hear the Father’s heart as He speaks into you. Go to Jesus to find out who you are in Him. Look at His character and know the Father sees you through the lens of Jesus. That’s a pretty great place to be.

Leaven or Bread?
Ecclesiastes 7:29 – “Truly, this only I have found: That God made man upright, but they have sought out many schemes.”
We can spend our lives chasing things that do not matter in the long run. No matter how much we achieve, deep within we know there is something more to life. That something keeps us searching and trying harder. That something is the ultimate Way, Truth and Life of Jesus. Without Him, our lives spiral out of control and end in a crash landing. Let Him take control over the plane, direct the flight route, and to take you to places you never dreamed of. He’s not a highjacker! He knows your destination and exactly how to get you there.
Declaration: I’m an upright man, who doesn’t chase after stupid things. I chase after Jesus and His plan for my life.
LEAVEN OR BREAD?Most babies do not have any control over the circumstances of their birth – when they’re born, who they’re born to, the real estate they’re born on. They don’t know the condition of the world they’re born into. But Jesus was no normal baby. He was God Almighty in flesh form.
Today, I want to talk about the prophecy of where the Messiah would be born. The book of Micah makes some things pretty clear.
“But you Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.” – Micah 5:2
This prophecy, written about 700 years before Jesus’ birth, eliminates all other cities and towns where the Messiah would be born. That means if anyone rose up and said they were the Messiah but weren’t born in Bethlehem, they were disqualified.
My friends, Bethlehem literally means “House of Bread.” Jesus calls Himself the “Bread of Life” in John 6:35 and promises all who believe in Him shall never hunger or thirst. In contrast to that, we are to beware the “bread” the enemy offers.
Then Jesus said unto them, “Take heed and beware the leaven of the Pharisees.” – Matthew 16:6
He’s saying that the bread the High Priests and religious leaders of the day offer – manmade rules – leads to death. That’s still true today!
Remember in the Exodus story how the children of Israel were told to eat unleavened bread during the first Passover? Still to this day, the Jews rid their house of any leaven during the Feast of passover because it is synonymous with the sin of lying.
See the connection? Even during the time of Moses, God was prophesying about the place Jesus would be born and the times He would live in. My friends, Jesus is the “Bread of Life” born in the “House of Bread.”
This speaks of our day as well. Beware the leaven of religion that wants to replace life with death and freedom with manmade rules. Feast on the Word of Jesus – your daily bread – and have abundant life.

Choose to Break the Chain
2 Samuel 7:28 – “And now, O Lord God, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant.”
What are the promises God has given you for your life, family, and future generations? Make a list of the words the Lord has given you. They will keep you sane in times of doubt and trouble. Can you remember all the miracles Jesus performed in your life? Reminding yourself of His faithfulness in your past will keep you trusting Him in your present and give you hope for your future. The Lord is good to you every day, even when there is darkness all around you. Do you have an eye to see and a heart of gratitude? Make your list and He will add to it!
Declaration: I will meditate on God’s promises and remember His faithfulness all the days of my life. I will not be deceived.
CHOOSE TO BREAK THE CHAINThe choices between life or death that we make in covenant with God do not just affect us. They also affect our children and our grandchildren.
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” – Deuteronomy 30:19
Walking with God is about the collateral blessing. Look, we all know about collateral damage and we all know about generational curses. Generational curses are real and you need to learn how to throw a wrench into that mess.
Know this: You do not have to be subject to the curse passed down to you. This whole thing of people saying, “I was born this way,” or, “I was born that way,” is baloney. You don’t have to be a slave to that thing.
What’s real is Jesus Christ paid an amazing price for you to tap into His bloodline and His bloodline is clean and holy. It gives you an identity that says, “You are clean and you are holy.”
As adults, we are in a small way the product of how we were raised. Parents or other adults trained us how to think and what to believe. But there comes a time, my friend, when you need to evaluate your belief system and decide for yourself what you believe and why.
Statistically, those raised in a Christian home are more likely to have a relationship with God. Kids who grew up seeing their father pray with the family as well as alone have more a chance of doing it themselves.
On the flip side, if alcoholism runs in your family or dad had several lady friends, it’s likely you were never taught that was wrong and ‘poof’ – you’re living with a generational curse. To say, “That’s just how I was raised” is a cop-out!
Grow up. Find out what you believe. What kind of legacy will you hand down to your children and grandchildren? Choose to break the chain with the blood of Jesus.

Beware Blind Guides
Daniel 7:27 – Then the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him.
Before any performance, there are many rehearsals to ensure everyone knows their part–the things they are responsible for. On this side of heaven, there is a lot of preparation for what’s to come. Every day, show up for rehearsal and the Lord will build your capacity rule, to bring solutions, and to use the authority given you in obedience to His will. He believes in you! He is that proud dad in the audience cheering for you. You’ve got this!
Declaration: I’m valuable to Jesus. I carry the authority and ability to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to Earth in this day.
BEWARE BLIND GUIDESPeople who are offended want you to be offended too. They do. I see it all the time. Misery loves company so those with an ax to grind don’t want to grind it all alone.
Why? Because they need to justify their bad behavior. If they can get you to join the mob they’re forming, they can point to you and say, “See! They are on my side so I must be right.” That fuels their fire to continue forming a bigger mob.
Jesus is never in the mob.
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. – John 8:32
People get offended over all kinds of things. Before you jump on their bandwagon, start picketing or campaigning against someone on social media, ask yourself, “Do I know this is the truth or am I just taking up someone else’s offense?”
Remember, it’s not the truth that sets you free from being used for someone else’s retribution. It’s knowing the truth that will keep you from taking sides with what the Bible calls “blind guides” – people who cannot see the truth because they are blinded by offense.
“Every plant that My Heavenly Father has not planted will be pulled up by the roots. Leave them; they are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into the pit.” – Matthew 15:13
A blind guide is a dangerous ally. Avoid them. Don’t get on their bandwagon. Don’t let their offense become your offense. Seek out the truth and be free from those who don’t want to end up in the pit all alone.
A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, And contentions are like the bars of a castle. – Proverbs 18:19

Blessings or Curses?
Matthew 7:26 – “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand…”
God’s word is true and filled with every good thing for living and righteousness. What is righteousness? Right standing. When you make your stand on the sand of emotions, circumstances, like wind and waves, will shift you into a dangerous place you never intended to be! Instead, stand on the Rock of Jesus–the Word that testifies of His righteousness. His word trumps emotion every time. Believe ON the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved, you and your household.
Declaration: I have built my house on the rock of God’s Word. It will withstand the chaos of this day. I will not be shaken.
BLESSINGS OR CURSES?Make no mistake, many curses come from your bloodline. Where there’s a curse in your family history, I guarantee it’s because there is no redemption. Redemption removes the curse. Here are some examples:
“…you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me…” – Exodus 20:5
Iniquities are generational curse passed down because of a word spoken against someone or an inner vow being made – akin to saying, “I will never,” “I cannot,” “I won’t.” When you say things like this, you’re taking the future out of God’s hands. Now, He can’t use you in that situation because you refuse to be used.
Now, here’s an understanding of a blessing that is generational because there is redemption,
“…but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.” – Exodus 20:6
This is a curse where there is no redemption:
“Our fathers sinned and are no more, but we bear their iniquities.” – Lamentation 5:7
Here’s an example of where it’s right and there is redemption:
“You show lovingkindness to thousands, and repay the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them—the Great, the Mighty God, whose name is the Lord of hosts.” – Jeremiah 32:18
What’s real is, both of these things are happening at the same time. There is a curse being passed down and there is also a blessing depending upon which side of the Cross you live on. You and I need to be determined, right here, right now, that we’re going to live on the Promised Land side of the Cross and not the Egyptian side of the Cross. Amen.
That as Christians, you and I get to live out something that blesses us and blesses everything behind us. Christ purchased redemption for all on the cross. Break the chains that bind so you too can be free.

Living the Lie?
Hebrews 7:25 – Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Ever felt lost for words? We all face complicated, overwhelming situations whose circumstances can lead us to react instead of respond. Human reaction is always fight or flight. We either have whole lot to say about the mess or we shut down. Even in prayer, we whine and complain, or we clam up. It’s comforting to know Jesus, our High Priest forever, is always before the throne making intercession on our behalf. He responds perfectly according to the will of the Father. The next next time you have an opportunity to react, respond first by putting your eyes of King Jesus who is interceding for you that very moment.
Declaration: I will be still and know the Lord my God. He is my Rescuer.
LIVING THE LIE?Years ago, I needed a breakthrough word from the Lord. I decided to buy a ticket to a T.D. Jakes conference on identity, purpose and destiny. I set off for the Potter’s House, his infamous church of drop-dead, sold-out Jesus freaks in Dallas.
The man of God walked out on the stage, the crowd got silent and my pen became poised over my journal. With no fanfare, he said these words that have forever changed my life, “It is one thing for God to reveal to you His plan. It is another thing for you to conform your life to the image of His plan.”
What?!? You mean I have some responsibility and input into my purpose and destiny? Shut up! That one revelation has freed me to “move about the cabin” as they say.
Need an example? Well, it’s one thing for King Jesus to give Judas the money bag. It’s another thing for Judas to start living like he’s not a thief anymore. Judas got as much Kingdom as he wanted, which was zero because he insisted on living the lie – something other than God’s plan.
It’s up to you to determine how much of the Kingdom you get into your life. God has already said, “Yes.” Your job is to say, “Amen” or “let it be established” to the permission He gives you.
Can you give up your hurts, habits and hangups to go after the thing God has for you? Can you overcome the doubts, fears and friends who are not willing to let you move off their couch? Don’t live the lie, partner with the plan.
Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. – Proverbs 19:21
