Luke 5:22 (NKJV): But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered and said to them, “Why are you reasoning in your hearts?

SOUL OR SPIRIT?

Luke Chapter 5, we find Jesus teaching and healing in a crowd of people.  The house was packed.  Some men were carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They tried to take him to Jesus, but it was too crowded. They went up to the roof, took off some tiles, and lowered the sick man down right in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith, Jesus said to the man, “Young man, your sins are forgiven.”

But the Pharisees and teachers of religious law said to themselves, “Who does he think he is? That’s blasphemy! Only God can forgive sins!”

Jesus knew what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts?

The heart is where the soul and the spirit are.  Our soul is our mind, emotions, and will.  It is where we form our beliefs based on our thoughts and feelings. Before we meet Jesus, we are driven by the spirit of man and human thoughts, feelings, and selfish will in our human soul.  When we invite Jesus into our hearts, we are filled with His Spirit, who begins the work of redeeming our thoughts and feelings and bending our will to God’s will.

When Jesus’ words and ways didn’t fit the beliefs those religious men had, they rejected Jesus.

Is it easier to say ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up and walk’? So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!”

That man picked up his mat and went home, praising God. That was indeed a grace-filled miracle. Everyone around reacted and was gripped with great wonder and awe, and they praised God, exclaiming, “We have seen amazing things today!”

The highly religious men limited what Jesus could do in their lives by holding on to their man-made beliefs.  Those around the miracle received personal revelation because of the work of the Spirit.

Today, let’s remember to guard our hearts and keep them soft and pliable to the move of Holy Spirit so we don’t miss a thing Jesus wants to do in our lives.

Declaration: Today, I ask the Holy Spirit for the knowledge and wisdom to recognize the Spirit as opposed to my soul.

DECEIVING SPIRITS

DECEIVING SPIRITS

Matthew 24:23-25 (NKJV) 23“Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. 24For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25See, I have told you beforehand.

Brothers and sisters, this is why we need to study the word of God and hide it in our hearts. The word hidden in our hearts and the Holy Spirit will lead us to all truth. The devil is a fallen angel who masquerades as light and truth.

1 John 4:1-2 (NLT) 1Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world. 2This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God.

If we are children of God, the Bible tells us the world will hate us. The devil hates us because we are true sons and daughters of the Most High God, and the Holy Spirit dwells in us, and we have a place in heaven, which Satan will never be able to occupy again. Even with our place reserved for us in heaven, we still must guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus and protect the anointing and gifts of God that He entrusted us with.

Declaration: I will ask God for instructions and discernment to see a deception before it begins. I will not be misled because of the Word that I know and because the Holy Spirit will guide me.

GREAT AND MIGHTY

TODAY’S PROPHETIC NUMBERS

20 – Expectancy and Redemption

John 5:20 (NKJV): For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

GREAT AND MIGHTY

When Jesus was on Earth, He did and said only what he saw and heard from the Father, and He knew there was more to come when the timing and situation were aligned with the Father.

Think about this bit of history.  In 2005, authorities released news of a newly discovered giant waterfall hidden away less than 15 miles from a National Park headquarters. The 400-foot  cascading wonder had been there all the time and nobody knew it.  Four stories of raging whitewater sounds hard to miss, but that’s what happened in Shasta County, California. I believe it was a prophetic voice for you and I.

You see, something so magnificent waiting to be discovered could only be seen from above. It was found through satellite images. Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees and sometimes you can’t see the 400-foot waterfall because it is off the trail everybody has traditionally walked on. This waterfall was there all the time but it wasn’t on the map.

Are you waiting on an answer to your prayer?  Keep expecting God to answer in His perfect goodness and in His perfect timing.

In the meantime, spend time asking Him what He was to say to you about this request.  His word is true, and He may have more for you than you even understand right now.   He tells us,  “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Jeremiah 33:3  He may want to show you a better path than the one you are on.  One that will lead you to a delight you have never even thought to look for, and one you will miss if you give up. You can wait for His timing with expectancy because He knows everything about you, He loves you, and He wants only good for you.

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. Jeremiah 29:11-13 NLT)

Declaration: I will stand in faith in the goodness of My Savior and wait on My Father to answer my prayer with expectancy because I know He loves me.  I know with my whole heart that He is faithful and that His timing is perfect!

CRAZY MIRACLES

1 Thessalonians 5:19 (NKJV): Do not quench the Spirit.

CRAZY MIRACLES

God is in the search and rescue business. Yes, He likes to show up at the 59th minute of the 11th hour. He likes to swoop in when your back is against that proverbial wall, the money is gone, or the end of the rope is slipping away. He loves to jump-start a heart or clear a body of disease just as hope is gone.

Why? Because He’s crazy about us — believers and those who don’t know Him yet. To both, He says, “I see you, and I love you. Now see Me and seek Me.”

I’ve seen all kinds of crazy miracles in my life and through this ministry.

Some are jaw-droppers. Others are knee benders, as in, “Hit the floor, the power has gone out of my legs, and I need to worship my King,” type of miracles. I am grateful for each and every one. I continue to tell the stories of them all to the Glory of His Name. 

So should you!

But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” (Luke 18:27 NKJV)

God’s mercy is also revealed to all sorts of people — saved and unsaved alike. Do not begrudge a non-believer their miracle. God can introduce Himself however He wants to whoever He wants and, get this – no miracle is wasted! God is happy to display His power even if nobody recognizes it.

Declaration: Today, I will remember the miracles that God has done in my life. Whether a healing, a deliverance, or a changed life, I will give Him glory and tell of His power!

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV): In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

GIVING THANKS NETS RESULTS

Psalm 100:3-5 (NKJV) 3″Know that the Lord, He is God: It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. 4Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name. 5For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.” 

God has an order for how He would like us to approach His throne and live daily. We are to give thanks to God and live a thankful life. God delights in us when we give Him thanks. It opens portals where the power of God and answered prayer can come down. 

Luke 9:16-17 (NIV) 16″Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then He gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. 17They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.” 

We can see unmeasurable multiplication through God’s power when we obey Him. You will see the supernatural manifest right before you. Abundantly above what you could hope for or ask for.   

Declaration: This is a new year, and God wants to show His power and bless His children abundantly. I will approach God in His order and see miracles that cannot be explained.

PRAYER-WALK

1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NKJV): pray without ceasing. 

PRAYER-WALK

For many years, I was pushing 400 pounds.

Then, on a trip to Jerusalem with Leanna, we met a couple who pastored a church in Enid, Oklahoma. These people were not your ordinary pastors. They were both gifted in the area of physical training in a way that glorified God.

After returning home, this couple came to visit us in Texas to give us a personal fitness program we could literally run with. I needed to get in shape. Though round is a shape, I knew serving God, especially in the mission field, would be easier if I were a little less shapely.

As they finished mapping out my fitness program, I remembered their words: “Troy, your body is going to rebel. You have to learn to overcome your pain.”

The next morning, I walked my first mile. While my flesh was rebelling, to my spirit, it was familiar ground. I couldn’t help but snicker a little as I began to limp because my walk with God was already like that.

King Jesus really knows how to paint a picture. He was reminding me that sometimes, the walk gets painful. Jesus himself walked in ultimate victory daily, but that doesn’t mean it was painless. The next time you start thinking that your walk with God is supposed to be pain-free, consider this verse:

37And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” (Matthew 26:37-38 NKJV)

PERFECT TIMING

Ephesians 5:16 (NKJV): redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

PERFECT TIMING

Ask any Bible-thumping Christian to describe the days we’re living in, and they’ll likely tell you “The Last Days.”

Through technology, mobile devices, and a 24-hour news cycle, we are aware today of more murders and scandals in one week than people in the 1960s knew in a lifetime. We travel more miles and talk to more people, thanks to cell phones, email, and Facebook. We live more life in a year than those before us lived in an entire lifetime. We’re just busy.

No wonder you’re worn out! If you’re not careful, the busyness of your life will keep you oblivious to the special days the Lord has given you, and you could miss incredible opportunities. If you want to redeem or “cash in” on the day you are living in, the Bible gives instruction in the Scripture.  15See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.  (Eph 5:15-16) We walk with wisdom and awareness of the times.

In every generation, lifetime, and point in history, there are windows of opportunity where the timing is perfect for your life to be changed, for you to make a maximum impact on the world around you, and for God to get maximum glory.

God is moving powerfully all around us, yet most people don’t even know it. They are busily focused on themselves. These are the days of miracles. Have you seen one? Do you need one? Our God is still in the miracle business, so don’t be afraid to ask your Father in Heaven when your back is against the wall.

Declaration: Today, I will slow down and be aware of what’s going on around me. I will look for the miracles in the madness!

2 Corinthians 5:15 (NKJV): and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.

LIVING THE LIFE

Back when I was in prison ministry, I had been giving away little Bibles and found out they were using the super-thin pages for rolling paper. So, I began to make them promise that they wouldn’t

“I can’t do it, Pastor.” a brave young man told me. “I’m bad addicted to smoking, and I ain’t gonna lie to you.”

“Okay,” I told him. “If you promise me you will read this before you use it, I will still give it to you as long as you promise me you will read every single word and read it out loud.”

He said, “Yes, Sir. I promise.”

I told him to smoke his way through the Book of John and read the red letters.

I often pray for that young man, that God Almighty met him in his cell and changed his life, that instead of being bound by an addiction to cigarettes, he was delivered and experienced the abundant life that King Jesus laid down for us to have. Grace meets us all wherever we are, but it doesn’t leave us the way it finds us.

As we begin to walk with God Almighty, we begin to lay down our lives as we take up our Cross and follow after Jesus Christ. It’s a privilege! We become more and more like our Father, and less and less like this world that has a hold on us!

Declaration: I will take up my cross daily and follow after King Jesus!

14 – Generational Promises and the Fear of the Lord

Matthew 5:14 (NKJV): “You are the Light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 

THE LIGHT

Something happened when I got saved. I began to appreciate the value of stewarding environments and creating atmospheres. With a world-famous case of ADHD, although I am too old to have the H anymore, I have learned to be very intentional about the kind of surroundings I keep myself in. I learned this from Jesus.

The spirit working in ungodly people is about controlling the air or atmosphere. People don’t know that, so they turn over a big part of their lives to the enemy because of it. Fear, anxiety, depression, heartache, regret, outrage, offense, anything carnally charged or sexed up is the kind of nest that hell drops its sinister eggs into.

When you get good at setting atmospheres, you recognize them quickly. It’s amazing to me where goodness likes to show up. Light is superior to darkness, and goodness is far superior to evil. So, goodness shows up, tears darkness apart, and it tends to be messy. Even impolite. Because Light is superior to darkness in every way and goodness is superior to evil in every way, God just decided to move the darkness out of the way and displace it with the goodness of Light.

Genesis 1:4 (NKJV) And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

Declaration: I steward my environments with God’s Light. His Light drives out fear, heartache, or any carnally charged or sexed-up atmosphere. His superior Light lives in me, and it tears darkness apart!

GOODNESS IS GREAT

Luke 5:13 (NKJV) Then He put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately the leprosy left him.

GOODNESS IS GREAT

Well, hello, my friends! Let’s talk about the Goodness of God. This man, whose name was Alexander, had worked for one of the Mexican cartels as a drug runner and low-level hitman. The fast cars, nice clothes, and allure of power were a no-brainer for a guy who hated being powerless. Involved in a shootout, Alexander was shot in the stomach. Before the bullet went all the way through his body, it managed to sever his spinal column. Alexander felt his legs for the very last time just before he hit the ground after being shot.

Now, Alexander lived in the trash dump. Unable to escape the cartel, the dump, or the chair he was living in, he let his shoeless feet drag through the trash, and a terrible infection set in. He didn’t care because he couldn’t feel them anyway. “Hey man, why aren’t you wearing any shoes?” I asked. “It doesn’t matter. I’ve got feet like an elephant.” Alexander didn’t know it, but the term “feet like an elephant” was a prophetic God-phrase to me. So, as soon as he said he had feet like an elephant, I knew my shoes would be perfect for him. Miraculously and precisely, the shoes fit. He knew it was Jesus. Alexander gave his heart to Jesus that day because he could have hope in God’s Goodness.

Declaration: God’s Goodness is always willing to heal me. His Goodness heals hearts that are broken. God’s Goodness heals emotions. His Goodness heals me of life’s difficulties.
