OPEN BOOKS

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Where there is Truth, there can be conflict. Learn to welcome conflict as an opportunity to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to Earth, in love. Remember, truth without love only creates chaos and cruelty, neither of which are in the Kingdom.

OPEN BOOKS

If you learn that God in Genesis is the Creator, the covenant maker, and the promise keeper, you can learn who He is in the book of Exodus: the Deliverer, Passover Lamb and the Redeemer.

There’s this progression that goes from book to book to book. We find out more about Him with every turn of the page. His goodness builds! I think it is so cool that the Bible is no longer being written in book form. The Bible is now being written in people form.

The Bible calls you a living epistle. You are a walking Bible. A Bible with legs. It’s amazing the Word of God is no longer being written on tablets of stone, but on the fleshly tablets of men’s hearts.

You see, there is a way you reveal God that I don’t. There is a way you know God that I don’t. There is a way I can learn Jesus by being in a relationship with you that I can’t learn about Jesus without knowing you.

The Bible says in the book of Revelation that we’ll all stand before the throne and the books will be opened – you and I will be opened. Every good thing that God has written in your heart will be displayed and we will all get to look at it. Of course, He will get all the glory because He deserves it. Every good thing in us comes from Him and being made in His image.

That’s going to be an incredible WOW!

So the question is, what’s written on your heart? Do you know Him as the Deliverer, Passover Lamb and the Redeemer? If you do, tell someone about Him and add a chapter to your epic story.

You yourselves are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read by everyone, being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts. – 2 Corinthians 3:2-3

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO BE AN OPEN BOOK FOR JESUS. LIVE LIKE YOU’RE REDEEMED SO THAT OTHERS CAN READ YOUR JOY AND FIND FREEDOM THROUGH REDEMPTION!

BREAKING UP FALLOW GROUND

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

You are a plowman! I am sending you into new ground. Yes, it will seem hard at first, but with My help, you will make it ready for My harvest of fruit.

BREAKING UP FALLOW GROUND

When Christians talk about the harvest, we assume it means saving people out of the clutches of God’s enemy, satan. Well, it does, but it’s more than that. Much more!

The harvest is the fulfillment of God’s heart toward each of us. If you don’t know what God’s heart is toward you, there’s a problem. You need to be able to live life saying, “I wonder how God sees this? What is it that God wants to happen here?”

He wants you to love and trust Him. He wants you to love your life and the people He’s placed in it. When you do, you draw near to Him. That causes you to want to serve Him in anything He asks you to. The Bible calls that “breaking up fallow ground,” which is about harvest.

You break up dry ground when you say, “I’ve never really served God in this area, but I’m going to now.” When you start walking that ground, the hardness breaks up and you can plant seed of faith for a harvest.

He wants a harvest in places like your parenting, your job, your marriage, your thought life, your finances, your friendships. Addicted? Depressed? Angry? Plow that up!

God is going to show up there even though you’ve never had Him in that part of your life before. He starts telling you who you are to Him in that place and what He’s going to bring you to. At first, you may think He’s mistaken you for somebody else. But remember this: You are God’s favorite! He knows your name.

Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you. – Hosea 10:12

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO PLOW UP THE HARD PLACES IN YOUR HEART. NEED A HARVEST IN YOUR MARRIAGE, FAMILY, JOB OR FINANCES? DEDICATE THAT FIELD TO HIM!

MOB MENTALITY

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

When was the last time you asked me a question that I answered wrong? Why doubt me now? Be patient, watch, pray and praise me for who I AM.

MOB MENTALITY

In society, we sacrifice our selfish desires for the sake of something better. If there’s going to be a civilization, my friends, there has to be a selflessness among us.

It’s why we wait in lines without causing a riot. It’s why we stop at red lights instead of starting a stampede. It’s why we walk our kids to school and stay faithful to our families. It’s why we celebrate the military and it’s why we stand for allegiance during our national anthem. We are aware of something bigger than ourselves.

The mob is different. You and I are called to stay out of the mob. Why?

The mob is totally selfish, destroying at its pleasure. It doesn’t care about collateral damage or victims. The devil created the mob environment. The “prince of the power of the air” loves the atmosphere of the mob. He stirs it until we, his pawns, are whipped up in a frenzy of offense.

The mob is the crowd yelling, “Crucify Him!” The mob is the left wing agenda of haters and mockers right here in the United States. It has no value for anything real and thrives on anything dramatic because the mob must be entertained.

We have replaced truth with drama because we have replaced society with the mob. While we are supposed to be “in this world, not of it,” too many of us are part of the mob.

Then He said to the disciples, “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come!” – Luke 17:1

Many Christians don’t realize they’ve jumped on a bandwagon and have been blinded to their true calling. We easily forward that email, sign that petition or join the picket line. Sharing and commenting on politics or social agendas on Facebook is a huge plot of the devil. It’s his demonic distraction.

Sure, you’re protesting abortion or vaccine mandates. While these things are good, they are not God’s best. We must focus on what matters to the Kingdom: saving the lost and hurting from the clutches of God’s enemy.

We can’t do that on top of a soap box, a bandwagon or entrenched in the mob. We’re incapable of spreading His love because there is no love in the mob.

Stop spinning your wheels in offense! Ask the Lord to convict and correct you of the mob mentality. Get off the bandwagon by leading the lost to Jesus. There is no greater reward.

See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. – Psalms 139:24

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO COME AGAINST THE MOB MENTALITY IN YOUR LIFE. DON’T FALL OUT OR LOSE FOCUS. THE SALVATION OF THE LOST IS YOUR HIGHEST CALLING.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

You cannot give what you don’t have. Receive My love and you will excel at giving it to others.

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

That’s a good question. For many of us, pride is in a name. We say, “We’re Brewers. We don’t act like that.” I’ve heard this one many times in my life when I made a mess out of things, “Brewers are better than that.”

God Almighty takes pride in His name. It’s His calling card – His reputation, and it’s good. So when He told the children of Israel in the third commandment not to take His name in vain, He means business!

Unfortunately, there’s a mess of confusion around this command. People think it’s referring to using God’s Holy name as a cuss word. Well, folks, that there is blasphemy. Remember, He didn’t say “Don’t say my name in vain.”

Taking His name means this: When you became a Christian, you became part of God’s family. You took on the name of Christ. See it? Christ-ian. If you take on His name, then don’t act like Christ would act, there could be hell to pay!

“Do not be fooled, God will not be mocked. For whatever a man sows, so shall he reap.” – Galatians 6:7

In other words, God will not let you mock Him or His mighty name with your bad behavior. He will not stand for you and I misrepresenting Him and giving Him a bad rep to the very people He’s trying to save. There are consequences to such behavior!

Yes, when you sow hell, you harvest death, destruction and a whole bunch of enemies that want to tear your life apart. You brought that mess down on yourself. God didn’t have to lift a finger.

He does, however, lift a finger to pull you out. When your words and actions don’t line up with God’s character and family values of love and honor, repent. It’s never too late to run back to the Father and represent the family name with respect. Be proud to be called a Christian!

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO WEAR THE NAME OF CHRIST WELL. THEY’LL KNOW WE ARE CHRISTIANS BY OUR LOVE, SO LOVE WELL TODAY!

PUNISHMENT VS. PROVISION

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I am a good Father who loves to dote on His children. Providing all you need is My divine pleasure. How it hurts when you turn away from My hand to do things your own way. My ways are not your ways. They are much higher. Seek My ways.

PUNISHMENT VS. PROVISION

Nobody escapes the wilderness. Not only that, we all go through our own wilderness experiences. Because it is harsh, we think it’s where God sends you when you’re in trouble. It’s not.

When Jesus was baptized by John, He came up out of the water and God pronounced how happy He was with His son. He said, “This is my Son in whom I am well pleased.” Then, the Bible says “immediately, the Spirit led Him into the wilderness.”

The wilderness is a harsh environment that can destroy the unprepared. That’s not you. Because you find the majesty of God in that place, the wilderness is your game changer.

It is so important when you and I have our wilderness experiences – when we’re in the scary places life sends us – that we’re the kind of people who find God’s presence in those ugly environments and come out changed.

Every trip I’ve taken, I’ve asked God to let me come out of there changed and He changes my life every time. I know the Lord meets me in new places. I know He’s waiting for me in ugly, dangerous places. He will get me through it.

When you come out of slavery to sin, death and satan, and learn to live with God, that’s the wilderness. It’s hard because, in the wilderness, you don’t depend on yourself. That would be easy. You learn to depend on God for your provision, identity, your purpose and promise. That’s hard.

Going through a wilderness in your relationships, finances, ministry, parenting or job? Know that God wants dominion over that part of your life. Remember, the wilderness is not about punishment, it’s about provision. His, not yours!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. – Philippians 4:6

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO TRUST GOD WITH THE DIFFICULT PARTS OF YOUR LIFE. LET HIM PROVIDE ANSWERS AND DELIVER YOU. IT’S WHAT HE DOES.

THE RIGHT BATTLEFIELD

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Put everything you’re involved in right now down at the feet of Jesus. He will tell you the things He’ll handle Himself and the ones He wants to help you with as you seek Him.

THE RIGHT BATTLE FIELD

Alignment for assignment is all about fighting the right battles.

Open Door Church is called to fight the battle of poverty and hunger through our food bank and homeless outreach. We are called to fight the battle for freedom from slavery. We are also called to give orphans a new family name – Christ-ians – through our SPARK Worldwide orphanages.

There are a lot of other great things out there – Kingdom things – we could be involved in. However, we would be out of alignment because we are not specifically called to do those things. When I say called, I mean God has placed a holy hatred for that thing in my heart as the pastor and in our hearts collectively as a congregation.

I don’t want to fight the wrong battles. That never ends well because God didn’t give me the grace to win on that battlefield.

It’s easy to be fascinated with things that are not your assignment. Ministries other people or churches are doing, and doing well, are their assignment. Don’t go coveting what they have. Why? Because God has a personal, specific purpose for you.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. – Ephesians 2:10

Yes, your purpose is yours alone. Line up with it and leave your hands off the good things others are doing!

So what is your assignment? What has God put before you and given you grace to conquer for His Glory? If you don’t know or aren’t sure, ask Him for a word of confirmation. Let Jesus show you how He wired you to win the war against Satan.

Fan or Follower?

Feb. 12, Super Bowl Sunday, 2022

Pastor Troy Brewer, OpenDoor Church, Burleson, TX

The book “Not a Fan” has already called more than one million readers to consider the demands and rewards of being a true disciple–moving from fan to follower in their relationship with Jesus.

After years of serving God, pastor and bestselling author Kyle Idleman had a startling revelation: for too long, he had been living as a fan of Jesus; someone who tried to make Christianity seem as appealing, comfortable, and convenient as he possibly could to others. Idleman decided something had to change–he needed to embark on the journey of becoming a completely committed follower of God, not just a fan.

Fans want to be close enough to Jesus to get all the benefits, but not so close it requires sacrifice. Followers are all in and completely committed to Christ. The book “Not a Fan” gives you the tools to determine exactly where you stand when it comes to your relationship with Jesus.

Examine your relationship with God.

Determine if you’re following Jesus or just following the rules.

Pray the way Jesus prayed.

Start truly living for the One who gave His all for you.

Feeding the five thousand

John 6:2 Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased.

John 6:66  From that time, many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.

John 6:1-4 After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. 2 Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased. 3 And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. 4 Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near.

Then a great multitude followed Him: This miracle OF FEEDING THE MULTITUDE (5000) is also recorded in the other three Gospel accounts. Luke mentions that on this occasion Jesus went out to a deserted place to be alone (Luke 9:10), yet the crowds followed Him there. In spite of this imposition, Jesus still served the multitude with great compassion.

The Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near: John is the only one of the four Gospel writers who told us this took place near the time of the Passover. Perhaps this great multitude was made up of Galilean pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem.

So John makes the supernatural and prophetic connection of everything that follows here to Passover.

Passover is associated with the Exodus and God’s miraculous provision of providing manna in the wilderness. Jesus would soon sustain this multitude in their small “wilderness” with bread from heaven – both literally and spiritually.

Old Testament passages warn against doubting God’s provision: Yes, they spoke against God: They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?” (Psalm 78:19)

John 6:5-6 Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” 6 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.

WHEN GOD ASKS YOU A QUESTION, IT’S A BIG DEAL

ADAM: Where are you?

Moses: What’s that in your hand?

Jonah: How’s this being mad thing working out for you?

Elijah: What are you doing here in this cave?

Ezekiel: Can these dry bones live?

John 6:7-9 Philip answered Him, Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.” 8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter s brother, said to Him, 9 “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?”

Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat? Perhaps Jesus asked Philip this question because he was from Bethsaida (John 1:44) and this was near where this miracle took place (Luke 9:10).

Philip’s knowledge of the situation was accurate and impressive (two hundred denarii is more than six month’s wages), but his knowledge was useless in getting the problem solved.

He is thinking in terms of money  and how much money it would take to carry out God’s work in a small way

John 6:10  Then Jesus said, Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

You could say that Jesus here fulfilled the role of the loving Shepherd in Psalm 23:1-2. He makes me to lie down in green pastures.

That Psalm also gave the picture of the Lord as a host, serving a meal to His servant as a guest: you prepare a table for me…you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over…I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever (Psalm 23:5-6).

The men sat down, in number about five thousand: Jesus administered everything in an orderly way. Yet, they had to come under Jesus’ order to receive Jesus’ miraculous provision. The ones who came under Jesus’ order would soon be filled to the full.

He is starting to put them in order. He is starting to tell them what to do. He is starting to make them get with His program, at first in such a simple way

John 6:11  And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted.

. He distributed them to the disciples: Jesus relied on the labor of the disciples in this great miracle. He could have created bread and fish in the pocket or bag of every person, but He didn’t. Jesus deliberately chose a method that brought the disciples into the work.

Jesus refused to miraculously make bread to feed Himself in the wilderness temptations; but He did for others and with others what He would not do for Himself.

John 6:12-14  So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.” 13 Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

Truly this is the Prophet. Moses predicted the coming of the Prophet they expected: The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear (Deuteronomy 18:15). If the coming Prophet was to be like Moses, it made sense that he would also feed the people miraculously as Moses did.

The miracle of multiplication through the brokenness of division.

The miracle of finding yourself in an unexplainable encounter with God because You chased Him down, seeking him in a much harder place then where you have found Him before.

What’s coming right after all this?

A defining moment of commitment where you have to change from a fan to follower.

A defining moment is a point in your life when you’re urged to make a pivotal decision, or when you experience something that fundamentally changes you. Not only do these moments define us, but they have a transformative effect on our perceptions and behaviors.

Are you going to bail when things get crazy?

Or are you going to decide you have no other place to go but forward in Jesus.

TABERNACLE WITH GOD

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

As you tabernacle with Me, I will extend your tent pegs. The more of Me you have, the more space I take, and the more I will need to extend your tent pegs. Press into Me and see how I will expand your homefront.

TABERNACLE WITH THE LORD

Seasons are prophetic appointed times. Seasons are a big deal to God.

There are three specific seasons where God Almighty says, “Stop what you’re doing. Seek My face during this special time and I’ll speak to you. We can have intimacy, you and I.”

In the Bible, those seasons are marked by a feast and there are three feasts where God said He is most willing to be found – Passover, Pentecost and the Feast of Tabernacles. I really like the Feast of Tabernacles.

The Feast of Tabernacles is all about the manifest presence of God in your life. It is at the end of the Hebrew year – October – during the fruit harvest. The Feast of Tabernacles is where God says, “I’m here. I can’t be denied, I can’t be ignored.”

If you wake up in the morning and are not aware of God’s presence, you need a harvest. If you live your whole life and you just can’t think God thoughts because you’re so messed up, you need a harvest. If you want to live a life where Jesus is everywhere you go, you need a harvest.

See, if you tabernacle with the Lord, when you think about your past and go to those memories and painful places, because you’re staking ground in Him, you can meet Jesus in those places. Where you couldn’t before, you can now.

If you need that – to tabernacle or live in Him because He’s the only boat that floats – you need a harvest. Go after it because these feasts are not just for the Jews. They are for Kingdom people because they’re not Jewish feasts. They are Kingdom feasts. You and I can get in on the action.

Want a harvest of goodness you can present to the King of Kings? Tabernacle with Him. Go after it. His manifest presence is the reward.

‘Indeed, your threshing will last for you until grape gathering, and grape gathering will last until sowing time You will thus eat your food to the full and live securely in your land.” – Leviticus 26:5

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO ACKNOWLEDGE GOD IN YOUR LIFE. MAKE YOUR HOME IN HIM AND ABIDE IN HIS PRESENCE.

LEADING THE FIGHT

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Make freedom your cry and mercy your vengeance. The Lord calls you to be a bad motor scooter so continue to fight darkness with the light of truth.

LEADING THE FIGHT

On the holy ground what would be called Texas, a general with the righteous cause of freedom raced across the battlefield of San Jacinto. Vastly outnumbered and in broad daylight, Sam Houston was so far ahead of the rest of his men that he drew all the fire from Santa Anna’s Mexican army.

With two horses shot out from under him, Houston limped toward the enemy pointing a sword, yelling, “Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!”

Although never a king, Sam Houston would soon be the president of the nation of Texas. Though he was never actually a king, he was a proven warrior. I love a warrior king!

That’s why I love Jesus. You see, real Christians don’t just serve a king. They serve a passionate, fearless warrior king.

The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. – Exodus 15:3

Get this: not only is Jesus not scared of the battles you and I face, He actually gets revved up about the prospect of another glorious scrap for our sake! Jesus is no wimp and we shouldn’t be either.

Sign me up to serve with Christians who have the guts to proclaim Jesus in a day where good is being called evil and vice versa.

Is that you? Are you a bad motor scooter for Jesus? If you are, let’s battle together as we follow our fearless warrior King!

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO KNOW JESUS AS THE WARRIOR KING HE IS. LET HIM FIGHT FOR YOU AS YOU BATTLE TO SHOW THE WORLD HIS GOODNESS. TO GOD BE THE GLORY, GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE!
