THE TEMPLE AND THE BODY

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

I am the Living God who has given you My Holy Spirit. Don’t keep Him locked in a closet. Allow Him access to every room of your heart. He will clean your house.

THE TEMPLE AND THE BODY

The Bible says believers are not only the temple of the living God, but the body of Christ. Hear me on this: those are two different things. Both cool, and both good.

The temple is rock solid. You are I are called to be living stones in the body of Christ. The body of Christ is fluid – always growing, moving and changing. While they seem to be polar opposites, they work together to bring a beauty to the church and to us.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, whom is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own…” – 1 Corinthians 6:19

When you are the temple, there needs to be certain things within your life and thinking that are rock solid. Things you won’t give up on. One of those things is that God is good. You cannot convince me God is not good. I refuse to give up on the goodness of God. I’m rock solid on that. Are you?

There are other places you thought were rock solid, but God shows up and says, “I was fine with that for a long time, but you don’t need that in your life anymore.” He uses progressive revelation to take you higher and deeper. You’re still rock solid, maybe even more so as you know Him more.

Now you are Christ’s body and individually members of it. – 1 Corinthians 12:27

As part of the body of Christ, you’re called a “living member.” You change, progress and go after upgrade if you are truly “living.” There are a lot of Christians today who are happy in their pew playing it safe. That’s not you!

If you’re a living member, you’re serving, ministering and chasing after an intimate knowledge of God and staying in His presence. You should be transforming. If you’re not, you might not be living the life Jesus has planned for you.

Do you see it? Do you see the beauty in the dichotomy? Go after it!

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO BE BOTH ROCK SOLID AND FLUID IN YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS. YOU ARE THE TEMPLE AND A LIVING MEMBER OF THE BODY, SO REJOICE!

RACIAL DIVIDE?

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Multiplication is better than division. God is ready to start multiplying when you come into unity with diverse brothers and sisters in Christ. He will lead you to a higher place.

RACIAL DIVIDE?

Any level of racial hatred does not belong in the Body of Christ. We’re not going to have it in this tribe.

Newsflash! We’re not supposed to be the same race. God Almighty created different races because He loves variety and uniqueness. It was a good idea because He doesn’t like everybody acting and looking the same. He loves diversity, unlike most church folk.

In the Book of Revelation, when Jesus comes back, the 12 tribes are numbered, which is 12,000 (12×12,000=144,000). This number means something and it’s not that only 144,000 people will be saved. Revelation says that number cannot be counted.

In the Kingdom, 12 stands for perfect government. The 144,000 means this: 12,000 multiplied by 12 is saying God loves them all equally and governs them equally.

God recognizes the diversity in the tribes, but does not recognize any difference in His love toward them. Nor does He recognize any difference in the significance of each tribe’s contributions. They are all the same to Him.

The Body of Christ needs to be like that. If we don’t have His Spirit, and we don’t offer something different to the rest of the world, we have nothing. If Jesus Christ removes His lamp stand – His manifest presence – like He did to the church at Ephesus, you can just do church without Him.

Tribe is God’s idea. It’s the bigger picture of the family. Tribe is not the devil’s idea to divide us, but we’ve helped that cosmic punk by dividing ourselves. Don’t buy the lie!

God loves all races equally, though they have different attitudes and habits. He loves them the same because they are different. Do you?

And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation…” – Revelation 5:9

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO SQUASH RACIST ATTITUDES IN YOUR HEART WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT GOD LOVES DIVERSITY. IT WAS HIS IDEA AND IT BRINGS HIM GLORY!

VOLKSWAGEN VS. CADILLAC

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

You are called to be My warrior. Come up from the ashes where you feel you’ve been burned. Instead, burn the enemy by helping My people going through the same thing. This is My vengeance for you! Rise up My warrior!

VOLKSWAGEN VS. CADILLAC

Your Wilderness is either going to be a 40-day or a 40-year period depending on your behavior toward the presence of God.

When you go into the Promised Land, there’s a whole new way of doing things. Many people get the thing they’ve been looking for their whole lives, but they don’t change when they cross the Jordan. The first army that shows up wipes them out.

Here’s a great example: Marriage.

You say, “Oh, God, if I could just have a woman.” You marry that woman and think you’re going to live the same way as before? No. Your life is over! There’s a whole new way of doing things now, cowboy.

You say, “Oh no, no, no. I’m still going to do things the way I was.” OK, then you’re going to be single, or live the most miserable married life you can imagine. Why?

Because you couldn’t change your method. You couldn’t change your way of thinking. You’re going to have to change because the only way to stay together is to lay down your life for that person and give up your selfish ways. That’s it!

You can gripe and fuss all you want about your marriage, but if you pray for a spouse, you will live differently when God gives you one. It’s an example of what happens with the responsibility of an upgrade. If you can’t take care of your Volkswagen, don’t ask God for a Cadillac.

“Teach me to do your will, for You are my God. Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.” – Psalms 143:10

Is that you? Hunkered down in your busted down Jetta railing against God’s provision when you could be living large in your Caddie? Get used to God’s presence and provision, then rise to the challenge of the new thing. You won’t be disappointed.

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO GO AFTER THE NEW THING GOD HAS FOR YOU. LET GO OF THE PAST AND MOVE INTO YOUR DESTINY.

SEVEN: THE EPISTLES OF JESUS

SUNDAY, MARCH 12, 2022

Pastor Troy Brewer, OpenDoor Church, Burleson, TX

Epistle: a poem or other literary work in the form of a letter or series of letters; a book of the New Testament in the form of a letter from an Apostle.

An epistle is also genre of writing which look like this: “A letter written to be used as curriculum.”

Of the 27 books in the New Testament, 21 are epistles, or letters, many of which were written by Paul. The names of the epistles attributed to him are Romans; I and II Corinthians; Galatians; Ephesians; Philippians; Colossians; I and II Thessalonians; I and II Timothy; Titus; and Philemon.

You also have Jude John, Peter and James writing their epistles

Advice and instruction to the early church

James is all about FAITH and work

James 1:5-6 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

 James 1:19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

James 22-24  – But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

James 2:14-17What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?  If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

James 4:7-8 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

But what if I told you there is a letter hidden in the Bible that is an epistle of Jesus? What if I told you there are actually seven epistles from King Jesus Himself–not from Paul, Peter, James or Jude–but actually straight from the mouth of Jesus.  Letters of advice, instructions, commands and priorities that tell us exactly what we are supposed to do and who we are supposed to be as a Church.

Jesus Himself sent seven letters to seven different churches telling them, and us, exactly how we should and should not represent Him. Exactly what we should be a part of what we should not be a part of. He gives us consequences of reward and judgment–even much more than the other epistles–which should be read, heard, spoken and lived out as a general curriculum for every Christian associated with any church, anywhere in any time.

The seven letters to the seven churches found in the book called REVELATION: “The Epistles of King Jesus”

The reason we don’t know these letters like we do Romans or Galatians is because they are found in the book of Revelation and most Christians are afraid of Jesus as presented in the book of Revelation.

THIS IS JESUS:

Jesus in the Gospels is Jesus living among us representing the Father.

Jesus in the seven letters is

When Christ appeared to John he saw seven lampstands representing the seven churches and standing among them was one like the son of man. Verse 13 Jesus came as the light of the world and then commissioned us to be the light of the world John’s vision was a representation of his imagery. Christ was standing in his rightful place amid the churches. Every church, then and now, has the opportunity to be a lamp stand shining forth Christ light in a dark world. The churches do not create like they reflect it. Christ is the light bearing his light in the world is the church is primary purpose.

Revelation 1:9  I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord s Day…

John was in a hard place in a hard time.

Patmos : The Lord’s Day

Some would say it was sabbath or Saturday.

Some would say it was Sunday or the first day of the week.

Some would say John was saying he was in the Spirit when he saw the 2nd coming, because the second coming is also called “The Lord’s Day.” John writing to seven Churches to inform them he was shown a vision of the “Day of the LORD.”

“his day” (Luke 17:24). Afterward, Paul spoke of it as “the day of the Lord” (1 Thess. 5:2) and “the day of Christ” (1 Cor. 1:8; 5:5; 2 Cor. 1:14; Phil. 1:6, 10; 2:16; 2 Thess. 2:2). And Peter calls it “the day of the Lord” (2 Peter 3:10) and “the day of God” (verse 12).

“I will see you on the great day. I love you, son!”

Last words of Bill Brewer ( August 12, 2020)

John was overwhelmed by the Holy Spirit and was being shown, or allowed to experience, “The Lord’s Day.”

By the time Revelation was written, Caesar worship was the one religion which covered the whole Roman Empire; and it was because of their refusal to conform to its demands that Christians were persecuted and killed. The essence of Caesar worship was that the reigning Roman Emperor as embodying the spirit of Rome, was divine. Once a year, everyone in the Empire had to appear before the magistrates in order to burn a pinch of incense to the godhead Caesar, and to say: “Caesar is Lord.”

To refuse to burn the pinch of incense, and to refuse to say “Caesar is Lord,” was treason, in addition to being evidence of open opposition to the established religion.

The worship of the Emperor began with the worship of the Caesar after his death.

However, the Roman Emperor Domitian, who died in AD 96, was most probably the emperor who sent John into exile on the Isle of Patmos.

In AD 96 Domitian put to death Florius Clemens (his own cousin) who was consul, and exiled his wife Floria Domitalla, niece of Domitian, and both were charged with “atheism.” They were probably Christians, for many Christians were thrown to the lions, charged with atheism for refusing to sacrifice to the Emperor, who claimed to be God.

Domitian’s Claims

“Domitian was the first Emperor who arrogated divine honors in his lifetime and caused himself to be styled, ‘Our Lord and God,’ in public documents. He informed all governors that government announcements and proclamations must begin ‘Our Lord God Domitian commands.’

They must call Domitian god or die. Thus the issue was clear. It was a matter of gods. Either the Lord Jesus Christ or the emperor of Rome was lord-god. It was Jesus or Caesar. Who was Lord? That was the issue. The Scriptures clearly show why the writer was banished.

Revelation 1:9  – I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos for the Word of God.”

Jesus shows up to John in a hard time on a hard day in the midst of terrible suffering horrible persecution

Polycarp would be the next bishop or “the angel” of Smyrna.

Polycarp was a personal disciple of the Apostle John. He was burned live one the Lord’s day.  February 22nd or 222!

Revelation 1:10 …and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet

Isaiah 58:8 Then your salvation will come like the dawn, and your wounds will quickly heal. Your godliness will lead you forward, and the glory of the  Lord  will protect you from behind.

Isaiah 52:12 yes, the God of Israel will protect you from behind.

The place of protection

Psalm 3:3 “But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.”

Psalm 5:12“Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.”

I need that kind of shield because sometimes I deal with difficulties that seem to come at me from all directions and even from within – from my own thoughts. How wonderful to know that if I’m willing to take up the shield of God, He will protect me from anything life or Satan aim at me.

Ephesians 6:16“Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”

Revelation 1:11 – saying, I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea.”

ALL MY EXES…

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

Today is the day to put away things that have been holding you back. Open your grip and move forward with open hands. God can’t fill hands holding on to something else.

ALL MY EXES…

If you are going to have an exodus, you will have exes within your life, and that’s not always easy. I’m talking about things that used to be a huge part of your life, that no longer are. If you don’t have any of these, I’m worried about you!

I used to cuss, smoke dope and ride bulls. Those things are no longer a part of my life because I grew up. Those things are no longer profitable – not that they ever were – and if I were still into them, they would hold me back and most likely kill my testimony.

You see, I’ve had a transformation. Jesus saved me. I follow Him and answer to Him. There is a huge contrast between my before and my after.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. – 1 Corinthians 13:11-12

How about you? Have you seen a huge transformation because of Jesus? If you have, there will be people you used to connect with that you no longer do. There will be ways of thinking you no longer think and things that owned you that you are now free from. There are places you used to go that you no longer want to darken the doorway.

I call these things “trophies of grace.” If you don’t have a few of these babies mounted on your wall, you’ve not truly had an Exodus. Jesus changes things. He just does. If nothing’s changed, you are still in bondage. Break the chains. Ask Jesus to save you.

When Jesus saves you, He changes you. Embrace that. Go after that! That’s the start of progression and progress always leads to good and better things!

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. – 1 Corinthians 15:51-52

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO MOVE FORWARD. TAKE STOCK OF YOUR EXES. IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY, ASK JESUS TO SAVE YOU AND TAKE YOU OUT OF BONDAGE TO SIN AND DEATH THROUGH SATAN!

LET’S GO CRAZY!

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

It’s time to step out of the box that has held you captive and worship Me in a new way. Hear My whispers about what I want you to do. Don’t worry about what others think. I love to see your passion for Me. As you arise in worship, My glory will fall!

LET’S GO CRAZY!

We could learn a lesson from the tripped out angels eternally circling the throne of Jesus.

The cherubim – often called seraphim – are crazy cool creatures with six wings, eyeballs on all four sides of their bodies and four faces: a lion, an ox, a man and an eagle. They see forward, sideways and backward, and as they circle the throne, they see something new about Jesus.

They see what Jesus is doing right now, that nobody else knows and it blows their minds. They see something Jesus is going to do in the future and they’re amazed. They circle the throne, and every time they have their minds blown – past, present and future – they say, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty who was, who is and who is yet to come.”

It’s a good gig, and they’re loving it. They just can’t get enough Jesus. There’s an energy that comes from them circling the throne, and it puts energy out into the universe. Really! It’s in the Bible.

Bet you didn’t know heaven was that fun. If you think heaven is this quiet place where there are little people who play harps, sing hymns with a piano and quietly say, “We’re just here to bless the Lord,” you’re way off base. There’s none of that.

There’s craziness going on up there – thundering, screaming and hollering and all kinds of craziness. All of heaven is going nuts for God. He’s that awesome.

Meanwhile, down here, we worry about what people think if we sing a little loud, raise our hands or, God forbid, dance around a bit. And shout to the Lord or cry out? Not in front of the kids!

Go crazy! Go nuts! This is a good gig and you should be loving it. Why? Because right now, Jesus is working in your past, present and future. Working out His awesome plan for your life. Now that’s mind blowing!

Then David danced before the Lord with all his might… – 2 Samuel 6:14

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO DANCE LIKE DAVID. GO WILD ABOUT JESUS! HE DESERVES YOUR UNRESTRAINED PRAISE SO SHOUT TO THE LORD!

MOB RULE

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

God speaks of a day when offense will increase, but that day is not for you! Forgiveness trumps offense. Think about who you need to forgive and start down that road today. Don’t let offenses destroy you.

MOB RULE

I believe America is the greatest nation the world has ever seen. That’s why it’s so hard to watch the moral decay of the last eight years. In my opinion, we have replaced truth with drama and our once great society has been replaced by the mob.

The mob doesn’t care who is right or wrong. To the mob, all that matters is who has the biggest bandwagon, the most popular celebrities, or the loudest mouthpieces in the “lame stream” media. This is a demonic spirit you need to recognize and make certain you don’t partner with.

You see, the mob is a cruel master. The mob must be entertained. There is no reasoning with the mob. It turns on itself time and time again, wreaking havoc on all in its path, and to what end? Justice? The mob doesn’t care about justice, only about destruction.

Like a swarm of locusts, the mob will consume and destroy at its pleasure until there is nothing left. Its primary target? Jesus. The Bible. God. You. Me.

The Bible warns of a day when good would be called evil and evil good. Thanks to technology, you and I have the ability to be offended 24/7. Being offended is easy and it often feels good. Heck, being offended is addictive, just look at the mob!

Easily offended? Find yourself jumping on the bandwagon of politics, social agendas or just pointing out the sins of others? God has something to say about that.

Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes! – Matthew 18:7

We could be offended all day every day, but that would turn us into angry hate mongers. Don’t comment on that Facebook post or forward that email. Put down your picket signs and petitions. Why? Because it’s the devil’s distraction. It keeps you from focusing on the only thing that matters: bringing people to Jesus in these last days.

So stay out of the mob. Rebuke the collective. Get off that bandwagon. Testify to God’s goodness and saving grace. The days are short so don’t lose focus!

A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense. – Proverbs 19:11

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO DROP THE DISTRACTIONS. FOCUS ON FINDING THE LOST AND OFFERING THEM JESUS.

WILDERNESS LESSON

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

You were designed to be with Me. I love it when you seek Me. Just like a good daddy playing hide-and-seek, I will let you find Me and laugh with you at your discovery.

WILDERNESS LESSONS

If you want to go to the Promised Land, there are some things you should have learned in the Wilderness. Lesson No. 1 is who God is to us and who we are to Him.

Here are some of the most important lessons you should have mastered.

You learn to be completely dependent upon His presence.

You learn to be completely dependent upon His Word.

You learn to stay close to His manifest presence.

You learn that whatever the problem is, God is not your problem.

You learn to worship Him no matter what the day brings.

You learn to look at God instead of your circumstances.

You learn to let His presence dictate the environment you live in.

You learn to be OK with inexplicable things and supernatural experiences.

You learn to value His voice and His manifest presence more than anything else.

You learn to stay separate, not to fall prey to the frenzy of the mobs of this world.

You learn to march to the beat of His drum and in His light.

You learn that God is really, really good and that it’s really, really good to know God.

Through these many lessons, you should have a personal experience with Him in the Wilderness. That personal experience becomes your testimony, and the Word says it’s your testimony that makes you an overcomer, so overcome!

They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. – Revelation 12:11

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO OVERCOME THE ENEMY. TESTIFY TO THE LESSONS LEARNED IN THE WILDERNESS – THAT GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!

I DON’T WANNA!

TODAY’S PROPHETIC THOUGHT

You are an overcomer! Don’t let the roadblocks the enemy sets in your way keep you from My work. Together we will find a way around the roadblock into your destiny!

I DON’T WANNA!

Well, in the midst serving – in planting and watering the plot of ground Jesus has given you – be prepared to deal with the “I don’t wanna’s.”

It’s a spirit of laziness where we say, “I’m not willing. I’m not concerned. I’m not going to get caught up in that. My schedule and needs come first.” Face it – laziness appeals to us.

If you’re so lazy your idea of a two-income family is your wife has two jobs, that is a major malfunction. You need to have a swinging vision. If you can’t get off the couch because Game of Thrones is on, or you have a mani-pedi scheduled at 3 p.m. and your polish won’t be dry in time to serve, you’re a loser. Yes, you heard me – a loser!

God expects a harvest out of you. When you don’t have any passion or ability to overcome, you’re being rebellious. When you have no vision, no motivation, no calm, and all you need to know is comfort, you’re thumbing your nose at the Creator of the universe saying, “You can’t make me!”

Oh, He can make you. He loves you enough to let you choose because the consequences for not bringing a return on His investment in you are steep. He calls the lazy servant “wicked.”

‘For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ – Matthew 25:29-30

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO HOE A ROW IN YOUR FIELD. IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE, YOU’RE NOT WORKING. BRING IN A HARVEST!
