PROPHETIC LIFE: 17 PROMISES OF AN OVERCOMER

Tuesday, June 21, 2022

Pastor Troy Brewer, OpenDoor Church, Burleson, TX

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SURVIVOR AND OVERCOMER!!

The difference between a survivor and an overcomer is the difference between the wilderness and the Promised Land. A survivor is someone who suffers a terrible attack and lives to tell about it. In the Kingdom, this is not always good enough.

An overcomer is someone who suffers terrible attack, rises up, and kills the attacker.

Survivors are victimized. Overcomers are victorious.

Survivors have wounds. Overcomers have scars, like Jesus.

Survivors are peacekeepers, just like the United Nation Peace Keeping Force, which is basically worthless in my estimation. They witness terrible atrocities and never step it to stop the attack. These peacekeepers maintain the status quo because their need to survive takes precedence over anything else. If you don’t believe me ask a Rwandan.

Now, let me tell you about people who are just the opposite:

Peace Makers. Overcomers are Peace Makers, like the pistol that Samuel Colt made and the sons of God Jesus refers to in Matthew 5:9. They jump into the fight, put the bully down, and bring freedom and peace to all.

Survivors go through the fire and live life in constant reference to how they have been burned. “Look at my wounds! I’m still bleeding, so help me.”

Overcomers go through the fire and don’t even have the
smell of smoke on their clothes like Meshach, Shadrach and Abednego after the fiery furnace. “Check out these battle scars! Aren’t they glorious?”

There is a big difference between survivors and overcomers. However, the major difference is that survivors don’t inherit the promises of God. Overcomers do.

Promised Land Living

There are 17 promises reserved for overcomers in the book of Revelation. I want to take a look at them.

Revelation 2:7 says: “To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”

This is all about having eternal life and redemption from Adam and Eve’s original sin. Total restoration with God is the way it is supposed to be where we taste and see that the Lord is good.

Revelation 2:11 says:  “He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death”

The overcomer doesn’t have to worry about being separated from God ever again. We will be in His presence and in the fullness of joy.

Revelation 2:17 says:  “To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna.”

Jesus is the hidden manna. The Bible says in John 6:32-33:  “Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.”

Revelation 2:17 says:  “and will give him a white stone,”

A white stone is the promise of acquittal. It refers back to when a person was tried for a crime the judge hearing the case would make their decision by giving either a white stone, which signified the person was innocent, or a black stone, which signified he was guilty. God promises an overcomer a white stone meaning He says you are not found guilty.

This is also a promise of admittance. It refers to times past when a person tried to get into a certain organization, the members of that organization would cast a secret ballot or lot whether or not to accept them into their organization. They would place either a white stone or a black stone in the box.

If the stones were all white, the person was accepted into the organization. However, if there was even one black stone, it signified the person had not been accepted – hence the saying, “black-balled.” When you get the white stone, God says, “You are in!”

Revelation 2:17 says: “and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.”

Revelation 2:26 says: “And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations”

Revelation 3:5 says: “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment”

Revelation 3:5 says: “and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life”

Revelation 3:5 says: “but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.”

Revelation 3:12 says: “Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God”

Revelation 3:12 says: “and I will write upon him the name of my God”

Revelation 3:12 says we will receive the promise of a specific identity of New Jerusalem: “and the name of the city of my God, [which is] new Jerusalem…”

Revelation 3:21 says: “To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne”

Revelation 21:7 says: “He that overcometh shall inherit all things;”

Revelation 21:7 says: “and I will be his God”

Revelation 21:7 says:  “and he shall be my son.”

UPGRADE IS A “GOOD” THING

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in the name of Jesus your creation is good, but you called man “very good.” You see me as very good. I am your child and you want the best for me. I partner with you today for my promise and purpose. I will advance!

UPGRADE IS A ‘GOOD’ THING

All of God’s creation was “good,” except man, who was “very good.”

From a created earth with endless possibilities, God created us and coded our DNA, just like the universe, to be people attracted to the next level and generally happy with anything related to improvement.

At each unfinished stage, God announces His goodness over you the way He did at the end of every day in the Genesis account. When he sees you complete one small step toward something better, at the end of the day, He declares it monumental and says,

“…it is good.” -Genesis 1:21

When you are redeemed by the blood of Jesus, God sees you just as pure and good as the first man, Adam, at his creation. This is a time for God’s goodness to fill you up in areas you’ve never expected before.

Yes, your universe is still expanding. So, why would we dare think it’s OK to not progress and go forward?

TODAY IS A GREAT DAY FOR YOU TO TAKE A DELIBERATE STEP FORWARD AND CELEBRATE YOUR PROGRESSION WITH JESUS HIMSELF.

GOOD OVERCOMES RELIGION

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in Jesus’ name that I will not partner with the spirit of the Pharisees. I love God and people. Love is the greatest command and I will love people into the Kingdom. I will not shame or condemn the Prisoners of War caught behind enemy lines.

GOOD OVERCOMES RELIGION

Though there is no money or glory in giving away food, there is the blessing of God’s favor. The Bible tells us God loves a cheerful giver. Leanna and I have been cheerfully giving to people all over the world for three decades and I can honestly say, we walk in the crazy favor of God.

The kids were little when our food outreach really started to grow. I was getting more food than I had clientele for, so I went to one of the largest denominational churches in my hometown and made them an offer I was sure they couldn’t refuse.

Let’s call this church First Big. First Big had a beautiful building with a congregation every pastor dreams of. Respectable, influential people who faithfully attended. I admired their reputation so I attended a board meeting and made my pitch: me, Leanna and the kids would bring food to the church twice a month and do a free outreach to the poor. We would wear our First Big T-shirts and represent them well – no muss, no fuss and glory to God!

The pastor looked me in the eye and told me no. WHAT??

He turned and pointed to the fine fellows behind him, the First Big board of directors, and said, “Young man, you see these men here? They are never going to allow that to happen because when you give away food to the poor, they want to attend your church. They don’t tithe and generally want and need more. Pretty soon, all the people who do support the ministry and tithe well are gone.”

My jaw hit the floor. I left ashamed, not of me, but of them. God must have been too, because a few years later, He spoke a revelation into my head. I went back to that church. The pastor and board were still there, but the people were not. First Big was not so big anymore.

I walked in and told them, “I’m going to buy this building from you for $200,000 and you’ll need to be out of here by the start of the month so OpenDoor Church can start meeting here.”

It was a major lowball price. The board was outraged, but the pastor put up his hand to quiet them.

“I remember the first time this man came to us. He offered us an outreach to the poor and we turned him down,” he said. “I can mark, to the day, when this church began to decline, that God took His hand of favor away, and it was the day we turned this boy down. Give him what he’s asking for.”

WOW! This act of God’s goodness speaks for itself.

FATHER’S DAY 2022

PASTOR TROY BREWER

OpenDoor Church, Burleson, TX

Matthew 6:8-13 – Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Ephesians 3:14–15 – “For this reason I bow my knees before the Father [patēr], from whom every family [patria] in heaven and on earth is named.”

In the Greek it is easy to pick up on Paul’s patēr/patria play on words. John Stott chose to translate this phrase as “the Father from whom all fatherhood is named.” The ESV translation footnote makes a similar point.

God’s Fatherhood is the archetype of human fatherhood, a point made even more explicit in Hebrews 12:7–10. What that means for us fathers today is that we take our cues on fatherhood from the Father of Fatherhood himself, which is a great relief for any father today who was raised by a sinful or absent father (which of course includes every one of us).

Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

John 14:6 – Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

The point of Jesus being the Way, the Truth and the Life is to lead us into the presence of the Father

THE FIVE RESPONSIBILITIES OF A FATHER:
A responsibility to lead (Prince)
A responsibility to seek God (Priest)
A responsibility to pray & speak life (Prophet)
A responsibility to provide for others (Provider)
A responsibility to protect others (Protector)

Responsibility: The state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone or something;
being accountable or to blame for something.

The biblical word for responsibility: watchfulness

There are at least 66 verses in the 66 books of the Bible that tell us to be watchful. Or take responsibility for the post that God had given us.

Luke 21:36 – “Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Ezekiel 33:6 – But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.

To be a man of all seasons. To take responsibility for the station you have been commended to steward and make sure it looks more like the Kingdom of God rather than the enemies camp. Your family should look more like heaven than it looks like hell.

Fathers have five responsibilities: A responsibility to lead; a responsibility to seek God’s will; a responsibility to pray and worship; a responsibility to protect the beautiful, the innocent and the good; and a responsibility to provide for those we love and lead.

What would you say if I told you Men fulfilling their responsibilities as fathers could solve all the world’s problems?

What would you say if I told you that women step up when men step away, but women resent having to do that, and are weary and angry at men who neglect their responsibilities as fathers, husbands, sons and brothers?

This is not to say there isn’t plenty of good will between the sexes, but I think we can agree the world is a mess.
It’s a mess because it’s out of balance. It’s a mess because the relationship between the sexes has become completely distorted. And, what I’ll explore here today is the suggestion that we, as men, have allowed this to happen by neglecting our responsibilities as fathers.

We see around us increasingly desperate assertions of distorted perspectives overwhelmingly deaf to reason or reassurance. Gentle assertion of reason and reassurance is one responsibility of fathers.

We see around us a rejection of natural order between the sexes. Calm communication of natural order between the sexes is a responsibility of fathers. We see around us a rejection of humility before God and an assertion of progressive principles that reject masculinity. The example of calm, confident humility before God is a responsibility of fathers.

We see around us women at risk, attacked and fighting for their dignity. Protecting women and the elevation of their dignity is a father’s responsibility.

Finally, we see motherhood ridiculed and denigrated either implicitly or explicitly by an economic compromise that says “women who choose to raise children are somehow less relevant or less valuable than those who choose to make money.” Fathers are primarily responsible for providing for their families so women can have those kinds of choices. Providing so others have choices is a father’s responsibility.

Masculinity is powerful. That’s why it is under attack.
“Who benefits?”

Who benefits from chaos? If you and I are arguing, someone else can exploit our division. Who benefits when men step away? Who benefits when families are weak? When a father’s responsibilities are neglected, distorted, rejected, or usurped, who benefits? You’ve heard the saying that nature abhors a vacuum. So does power. Masculinity is powerful. That’s why it’s under attack. Someone is asserting authority when men fail to. There is a natural order to the world that is universal and works well when we each do our part.

But when we men do not do our part, when we fail to fulfill our responsibilities as fathers, someone else does. When someone else has the courage, boldness and audacity to assume and assert fathers’ responsibilities when we fail to, they have every right to expect the authority, privileges, and influence we relinquish.

The ones who benefit from our neglect are the people more courageous and assertive than we are. The ones who benefit from our neglect and timidity are those who seek to push a political agenda that undermines our rightful authority as men, wherever we may be. It is they who attack our families when we neglect our responsibilities as fathers.

“Who suffers?” It’s a good question to ask.

Who suffers when men and women make war with each other? Who suffers when men neglect our responsibilities as fathers? Who suffers when men neglect our responsibility to lead?
Who suffers when fathers fail to consult and worship God and stop protecting and providing for others?
These are responsibilities of fathers.

Men suffer the least.
The ones who suffer most are women and children.
Everywhere we look now, women are being treated like men. And when men start treating women like men, the whole world suffers, but women and children suffer the most. So, the enemies of our families benefit, and women and children are hurt the most when men neglect to fulfill their responsibilities as fathers.
This must stop.

Statistics of Fatherlessness
63% of youth suicides
90% of youth homeless/runaways
85% of youth behavior disorders
80% of rapists/anger issues
71% of all high school dropouts
75% of youth patients in chemical abuse centers
85% of all youth in prison

The Five Responsibilities of Fathers: Prince, Priest, Prophet, Provider and Protector

Father as Prince: a father’s responsibility to lead
Men are created to lead.

Every man is born with a desire to lead but it doesn’t happen automatically. It’s taught. It’s developed. It’s not automatic.
It’s what we do and we do it well. We have a genius for clarity, simplicity and action.

If you’d like 11 steps to leadership, look no further than the United States Army. To be a leader, start doing the following today and apply these at home, at work, in life:

Know yourself and seek self-improvement. It’s a father’s responsibility to improve. Watch yourselves, so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward. – 2 John 1:8

Emotional intelligence. Consistently learning. Being determined to grow into the person your family, your church, and your nation needs you to be. These are all things the Holy Spirit is waiting for you and I to get engaged in.

Pod casts, E-courses, Bible studies, reading the right books.

The Five Marks of a Man by Brian Tome
Wild at Heart by John Eldridge
The Barbarian way by Erwin McManus
TD Jakes speaks to men is three of his books in one book

Seek responsibility and take responsibility for your actions. Fathers seek responsibility.
Model it, demonstrate it.

If you want your kids to love Jesus, openly love Jesus.
If you want your kids to stand for something, then you stand for something.
If you want your kids to pray, let them hear you pray.
If you want your kids to be repentant, then you be repentant
Set the example

Be technically and tactically proficient. This means know your job and do it. Get really good at some things:

Know your wife and children; look out for their welfare.

Keep your wife and children informed on matters that affect them.

Develop a sense of responsibility within your family.
Teach your family to work together as a team.
Make sound and timely decisions.

Ensure tasks you ask to be done are understood, supervised, and accomplished. Have holy hatred for things undone.
Get stuff done!

Only ask your wife and children to do what is reasonable:
Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV) – And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:4 (New International Version) – Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

Ephesians 6:4 (Amplified Bible) – Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger [do not exasperate them to the point of resentment with demands that are trivial or unreasonable or humiliating or abusive; nor by showing favoritism or indifference to any of them], but bring them up [tenderly, with lovingkindness] in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

A priest may be defined as a man authorized—authorized by whom?–to perform certain rites and administer certain sacraments. It’s a father’s responsibility to be reverent. Show your family you revere God. So as a father you must seek—and it’s the responsibility of a father to be seen to seek—the will of God and then you must try to do—and it’s the responsibility of a father to be seen trying to do—the will of God.

To know how to make a decision.
What we should do and when we should do it.

Your children must see you trying to figure it all out. Children are smart and even they, especially they, ask the big questions in life. In their innocence children seek God. In their innocence they seek the will of God. If you demonstrate to them that you are trying to do the same, not only do you encourage and strengthen them in their own precious desire to know God, you become a companion to them on the most important journey in life: the journey to spiritual fulfillment. And note, too, that you receive authority from those you serve as a responsible father. If you have ever made a mistake in front of your children and then gone to apologize to them for that mistake you know the life changing power of the forgiveness of a child. Your responsibility as a father is NOT to be false or hypocritical. The world hates a phony. Your desire must be humble, your desire must be sincere, but if your children and your wife see you struggling to figure out the meaning of life, you all benefit.

Father as Provider and Protector: These two responsibilities are simple and straightforward, but they are not easy.

A father’s responsibility to provide food, clothing and shelter for others and to protect the innocent, the beautiful and the good from physical, spiritual and moral harm.

You have a responsibility as a father to provide for your wife and your children. You are responsible for putting a roof over their heads, for providing them clothes and shoes, food and education and experiences that are healthy.

This is what fathers do.
You love your wife by providing for her. If she wishes to pursue other opportunities you must love her and support her by helping her to make responsible decisions of her own so you reach agreement as a couple.

It is a father’s responsibility to ensure the children aren’t neglected. This is where life gets complicated. The welfare of the children must come first. That, too, is a father’s responsibility.

It’s a privilege to be a parent, a privilege to bring children into the world. Your responsibility as a father to your children is to love their mother and work toward her good, but she’s your cherished companion to be honored, not tyrannized.
We all know this is not easy.

Men have fathers’ responsibilities and women have mothers’ responsibilities. We are radically equal and radically different, but children require time and attention. It is the rare mother who doesn’t want to be with her child, at least for the first formative years. It is a father’s responsibility to make this possible and a husband’s privilege to work with his wife so she has choices. We have responsibilities so others may have privileges. It’s what we do. Being a responsible husband and father deserves respect.
When we do this right, we earn respect.

A father’s responsibility as a protector is perhaps the most dramatic responsibility we have. The evidence of all studies is conclusive. Children whose fathers are in the home grow up more secure and safer. A father’s active involvement in his children’s lives teaches confidence and security. A man’s view of the world and the threats it contains offers his children a stable position from which to see the world in a way that is realistic and more confident than children without fathers or healthy men in their lives. A father’s responsibility to protect in a physical sense means protecting with violence or credible threats of violence of his own in a violent world. Prayerful fathers protect spiritually. Hard working fathers protect financially.
Healthy strong fathers protect emotionally and smart men of all kinds master violence.

Mastering violence and learning to deploy violence to protect the innocent, the beautiful and the good is a privileged responsibility of a father.

We know, too, that men who can be dangerous on demand are men who take the responsibilities of a father seriously. It doesn’t mean we’re out of control, it means we control the savage nature of our masculinity to serve our families as protectors.
As guardians. As fathers.

THE VIEW FROM THE TOP

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in the name of Jesus that I can handle change and I welcome transition and upgrade. I am prepared for the next step because I know my future is greater than my past.

THE VIEW FROM THE TOP

Most people can’t handle a fast rise to the top because instant change is required. This is the reality of upgrade and forward. It is one thing for God to reveal His wonderful plan for you. It is another thing for you to conform your life to the image of that plan. Let’s go back to the example of Saul.

Saul was the king of Israel in title, but not in his heart. He was made king instantly and never conformed his way of thinking or sought after the will of God. That’s why God went and found a man “after God’s own heart.”

You see, David was willing to go through a very difficult process to conform his life to the Lord’s plan to be a Godly king. And, he had to do it before he ever saw the plan manifest.

David was ostracized by his family and sent to tend sheep – a thankless and dangerous job. He faced and killed an evil giant, something no man in Israel, including Saul, would attempt. He endured Saul’s jealousy and numerous attempts to hunt him down and kill him. He endured years of exile in the wilderness surrounded by snakes, scorpions and scoundrels. He was shamed, slandered and scorned publicly by those who should have respected him. Yet, these things prepared him for his upgrade to king.

Poor Saul was exactly the opposite. He ended up begging for death on the bloody slopes of Gilboa. It wasn’t his upgrade that killed him. It was his inability to change once the upgrade happened that cost Saul his life. There was a whole new life of responsibility and relationship required of him, but he never embraced them, or the God who made it all possible.

That’s not you!

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO GO AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART. BE PREPARED TO EMBRACE YOUR UPGRADE THROUGH HARD THINGS. FIRE IS NEEDED TO REFINE PURE GOLD SO ASK JESUS TO TURN UP THE HEAT AND HANG ON!

THE BITTERSWEET

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in the name of Jesus I will go where you lead me, even into painful places. I know you are with me. Your rod and staff comfort me even in times of trouble. I give you the places of bitterness in my life and know you will turn them sweet.

THE BITTERSWEET

Remember that tasting the goodness of God is a personal experience? The Word, the heart of God or how we know Jesus always starts off sweet, but brings us to a bitter place. What the heck is that all about?

It’s the Lord leading us and directing us into places we would never otherwise dare to venture. He doesn’t tell us everything up front, but once we step out into that territory, we become committed to something we would have never committed to otherwise.

Example: God leading me to fix an old woman’s roof. This led to me finding out she had no food. When I bought her food, her boyfriend said he needed food and so did some of his friends. This led to a weekly grocery outreach which has now become the OpenDoor Food Bank. My wife and I have embraced it as our life’s work.

I’m no Noah. God said, “Build an ark.” Without even knowing what it was for or really what an Ark was, Noah did. Had God said, “Troy, build a food bank,” I don’t think I would have listened. Instead, Jehovah Sneaky let me take a step into the waters of the unknown, then wade in through the shallow end before immersing me neck deep in serving the poor.

The sweet part to feeding and taking care of the poor is that I get to see miracles, salvations and I experience great favor with God.

Now, here’s the bitter part. Feeding the poor cost my family dearly. Oftentimes, we gave away food when we didn’t have any ourselves. There’s no money in feeding the poor. For years, debt and doubt hounded me.

Now you understand why I say OpenDoor Food Bank is bittersweet for me. It is something wonderful that I had to pay a great big price for. Jesus perfectly explained this process to Peter like this:

“Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” – John 21:18

This is the bitter part of experiencing Jesus. It’s the part where we go where we never would have gone without Him.

WHERE DOES JESUS WANT YOU TO GO? TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO STEP INTO THE SHALLOW END OF SWEET SERVICE AND SEE HOW DEEP THE LORD TAKES YOU.

WHAT CHANGED MY LIFE?

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in Jesus’ name I am positioned to hear from God. He has a word for me. I will be still and know He is God and His plan for me is good.

WHAT CHANGED MY LIFE?

I had only been saved a few months, when I found myself in the back row of a tent meeting in Grand Prairie, Texas. The long-haired preacher was wearing a white suit and fancy watch. He ranted revelation, preached and prophesied for three hours straight, an organ playing behind him and the crowd drenched in sweat on a hot August night.

About to bolt, the power of God rocked my 19-year-old world.

That preacher made his way back to my seat and said, “God showed me you’re involved in a court case.”

I was. He had my full attention. He went on to say he would give me a word on Friday that would totally change my life, but I had to come every night and sit in the presence of God because God was going to change me. It took some doing, but I made it there every night. I thank God that I did.

That preacher and prophet told me that I didn’t know it, but I was a preacher God was going to send all over the world. He told me to humble myself and love the people I was in court with because one day, they would be family.

Now, I had no notions of ministry and had only left the great state of Texas a few times in my life, but the Lord did His work through the Holy Spirit. And yes, the family I was in court with has been a big part of my life and ministry. My youngest daughter now shares their last name.

Twenty-five years have come and gone and all that preacher prophesied has come to pass. Though the prophecy was powerful, it wasn’t what changed me.

It was the presence of the Lord that truly changed my life that week. I fell in love with Jesus. He pounded a word into my life about advancement and progression. Now I’m pounding it into you.

TODAY IS A GOOD DAY TO SIT IN THE LORD’S PRESENCE. ALLOW HIM TO CHANGE YOU AND REVEAL HIS PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE.

BE STILL AND KNOW THAT HE IS GOD AND YOU ARE NOT.

THE GIFT OF CHARACTER

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in the name of Jesus that I am an overcomer. I have persevered and have build godly character. I have a Joseph anointing of faith in the promises the Lord has given me. He is prospering my body, mind and spirit.

THE GIFT OF CHARACTER

If you are looking for God to prosper you, you not only need wisdom and favor, but character He can bless.

It does no good to know how to get your dream job, and to have favor with your boss, if you don’t have the character to get up in the morning and go to work when you don’t feel like it. Character is the God-given ability to make the right choice when most people don’t.

Character is working hard for your goals even when you don’t see an immediate payoff. It is doing the job when others shut down and pressing forward when others give up. If you have character, you constantly make things happen.

Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. – Proverbs 10:4

Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow. –Proverbs 13:11

Joseph is the best example in the Bible of how God wants to ultimately bless us. When a miracle was required, he believed God and got that miracle. However, the main way he prospered was by being an awesome servant.

Joseph knew a secret a lot of folks don’t. When he was serving Potiphar, he saw it as serving the Lord. In prison and in Pharaoh’s courts, the work he did was for the Lord. You see, his attitude was that he would serve the Lord in every task, so he was successful in everything he did! Nearly 2,000 years later, even Paul recognized this.

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. – Colossians 3:22-24

Tired of relying on miracles to get you through life, especially in your finances? Have an attitude that nobody can keep you from serving God. Whether you’re flipping burgers, changing diapers, writing a ticket on the side of the highway, digging a ditch or running a major company, do it to serve the Lord.

The way to the throne room is through the servant’s quarters.

CREATED FOR UPGRADE

TODAY’S DECLARATION

I declare in the name of Jesus I will not go backward. I am moving forward into my identity, purpose and destiny. I go with the flow of the Spirit and He moves me from deep into deep. I am prepared for a new depth of relationship with Him.

CREATED FOR UPGRADE

From little bitty babies, we were created to grow—to increase in knowledge, strength and wisdom. When Jesus the Creator breathed life into us, He breathed the yearning for more—to go deeper, higher and farther—for upgrade.

“This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, who formed you in the womb: I am the Lord, the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself.”  – Isaiah 44:24

You see, God prewired the entire universe to continue to create and expand. He is still stretching it out and with it, He is stretching you and I as well. Yes, your universe is still expanding! You are not a finished product. God is still working in you and revealing His wonderful heart toward you and me.

This is why we are creatures of hope. We want to pursue and dream. He made us to long for upgrade—but what kind of upgrade? Upgrade in RELATIONSHIP and KNOWLEDGE of Him. So what does that look like?

It looks like a whole lot of fun! Chasing after His presence by digging into scripture. Hacking time out of a crazy schedule to battle for our families in prayer. Seizing the opportunity to praise and thank the King of Kings and creator of all things. Devouring this TBM daily Word for the day and other devotionals aimed at connecting us to the very heart of Jesus.

Yes, church and Bible study are also cornerstones of your walk, but upgrade also belongs to you if you pursue it.

TODAY IS A GREAT DAY TO CLAIM YOUR UPGRADE! DON’T WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW. JESUS LONGS FOR YOU TO CHASE AFTER HIM AND FIGHT FOR THAT NEXT LEVEL OF RELATIONSHIP.  HE IS WORTH IT!
