Lockwood Short Story coming!
Okay, to celebrate the imminent Lockwood UK tour, starting next week, I’m very excited to announce the creation online of an exclusive new Lockwood short story, in collaboration with the Guardian. The twist is that this is going to be an INTERACTIVE short story - I’ll be responding to readers’ prompts and suggestions. The first part of the story will appear on October 26th, and run daily for six days, with the last instalment on Halloween. But I’ll be asking for your first votes and suggestions to determine what I write TOMORROW on the Guardian website. We’ll post up the link on my news page tomorrow, so check it out to find out what you have to do. It’s easy to vote! Meanwhile I’ll start sharpening my pencils, ready for action…

Cheltenham
I had a fine time at the Cheltenham Festival on Sunday, appearing on stage with the fantastic Paul Stewart and Chris Riddell. It’s always fun doing talks with other authors - you get interesting insights into how others work. Paul and Chris described how they work on books together, often starting with a visual idea of Chris’s that Paul has to make sense of. Paul provides a lot of the structural precision, worrying away at plot strands until they mesh, while Chris does a lot of improvising. Well, I’m sure it’s a lot more complicated than that, but it was fascinating to see how the two sides of creativity that I recognise in me were expressed in these two fine collaborators.
