Wurzburg
Thursday saw the great German Lockwood tour head South to Bavaria, and the beautiful city of Wurzburg. Low golden hills striped with vineyards rise over the town centre, and the River Main carves its way beneath the imposing Marienburg fortress on the other side. Wurzburg is filled with sumptuous Baroque architecture, culminating in the vast Residence palace - which we sadly didn’t have time to explore. Still, we mooched about the centre, trying bratwurst and Bremeners (fish cakes in a bun), before our evening event at the Hugendubel bookstore. It was a really enjoyable one, with many old Bartimaeus fans, and we didn’t finish signing until almost midnight.
