Wednesday in Washington

I had a terrific start to the tour in Washington, with three lovely events across the day. The first was at Politics and Prose, with students from several schools congregating to discuss ghost types, try out psychical detective kit, and chat about books in general. In the afternoon I zoomed through snowy streets to Hardy Middle School for a second event in a huge and impressive auditorium. In both talks I was blown away by the enthusiasm of the audience. As night fell, and the ghosts of dead presidents began to stir on the White House lawns, I drove out to the public library at Bethesda, for a cracking evening chat with friends and fans old and new. Finally, I took Route 95 north past Baltimore and Wilmington to reach Philadelphia shortly after midnight, ready for day two of the great tour the following day.

Lockwood in Washington

There were heavy snows as I flew into Washington DC last night, but today the sky is bright blue - the perfect start to the tour. I’m off to the great Politics and Prose bookstore now, for the first of two schools events, before heading to Bethesda Public Library tonight.

Meanwhile there have been some great American Ghost suggestions, including a fine one from Rick Riordan. I’ll post some of these up here soon…

Off to America!

As I write this, I’m sitting at Heathrow airport with a last cup of tea and sausage sandwich before hopping on the plane to Washington. I’ve got three weeks of cross-crossing America ahead of me, a journey likely to take in snow, rain and desert heat, as well as visits to some of the most fabulous cities on earth. I’ll keep you up to speed with everything that happens, and also keep my ear open for some good American ghost stories as I travel. Let’s see how scary the States can be…

LOCKWOOD 2 IS FINISHED!

Wow, I haven’t done many blogs for a while, have I? I’ve been locked away in a dark study for the last few months, working on Lockwood 2: The Whispering Skull, and a couple of days ago I finally sent the second draft to the editors! A fine feeling!

I’m pretty excited about it - there are lots of good things in there, and the world of Lucy, Lockwood and George is getting a lot bigger and more dangerous. Won’t be too long before you get a chance to see for yourselves… UK and US publications are set for this autumn… Just a few short months away!
