August

I'm sure it's much the same for everything this time of year. I spent the entire last week shopping like a madwoman for clothes and school supplies. We had the tax free holiday, so I tried to make use of that.

I figured this year would be slim because of the economy, I just didn't realize certain objects would vanish–like wide rule paper. We hit five stores before we found any.

Otherwise, the back to school thing is all good. DD gets to have her playtime with friends and, you know, that...

No News is Never Good News

Each time I've been offered a publishing contract, it's happened lightening fast. When I've had to wait, especially beyond the allotted time, it has never worked well for me. This was the case with Wicked Kin.

I heard back from my editor tonight, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't crushed when she asked for me to revise the book and resubmit. She had nothing but good things to say about the premise, my writing, the hero, the plot, but she had no love for the heroine. Not even a little.

This...

Paranormal Pretties

It's Wednesday again, and I'm blogging at Paranormal Pretties. Today's topic is when/if to use ideas other authors suggest while brainstorming. A year ago, I would have said, "No thanks." These days, I say, "Hold that thought. Let me grab a pen and paper."

Check out my reasons here.

Kiss of the Rose by Kate Pearce

[image error] First in a sexy new series that takes a bite out of the court of King Henry VIII

Desperate to defeat King Richard III and gain the English crown, Henry Tudor made a pact with the Druids that bound him and his heirs to the Druid's deadly struggle against the Vampires. Ever since, the Llewellyns, an ancient Vampire slaying family, have been in the permanent employ of the monarchy.

Now Henry VIII is on the throne, and his father's bargain has almost been forgotten. Until corpses drained of...

Possess Me by R.G. Alexander

In the Big Easy, there's a legend women long for: a sexual voodoo spirit who can fulfill their darkest fantasies. And in these three steaming-hot novellas, he helps three New Orleans couples achieve the ultimate satisfaction…

In Release Me, Allegra heads down to New Orleans to heal her wounds, but she never expects to lose her heart to such a quiet, troubled man as Rousseau. She's even less prepared for the scorching, sexual spirit within him-and what he can do to her…

In Reclaim Me...

Samhain Submission Call: Cyberpunk Romance Anthology

Cyberpunk Romance Anthology

Call for Submissions: Samhain Publishing Cyberpunk romance anthology

Welcome to the future, a cyberpunk future—post-industrial dystopias where society has broken down; a world of advanced science, cybernetic and tech. The cyberpunk world is a dark and gritty place, blurring the border between actual and virtual reality.

I'm very happy to announce an open call for submissions for a new, yet-to-be-titled summer 2011 cyberpunk romance anthology. Don't know what...

Six Sentence Sunday

This week's excerpt is from Sugar. This is Jordan and Cooper, doing what brothers do best.

"I bet you say that to all the girls." Coop batted his eyelashes, the smart ass.

"Not all the girls." Jordan batted right back. "Just the ugly ones."

"Hey—"

You can check out more excerpts on the official Six Sentence Sunday site, or check out a couple of the regular contributors.

Etsy and Earrings

For those who asked…these are my new Chinese food earrings.

To the left, we have egg rolls. In the center, takeout cartons. To the right, fortune cookies.

I know I talked about this on my forum, but I saw some cute cupcake earrings while I was out, too. They were cute, but…just not enough to part me from my money.

So I went home to the one place that never has any problem parting me from my money–Etsy.

How cute are these? (They're not even earrings, not even anything I would wear, and yet I want ...

Red is Best

So I was thinking today about this book I seem to be writing. It's a contemporary, which I don't do, but involves a baking contest, which I love to watch.

My critique partner is pushing me to up the ante, and I think I've found a way to manage it. It will just suck to lose all the work I've put into it so far, because I'll have to rewrite the book from the ground up to make the premise work.

Then again, Wicked Kin was like 40K before Jess had me scrap it?

I also think I have an idea of what the ...
