How do I edit…as a not super systematic pantser?
By Cassandra O'Leary
How do I edit as a panster? I'm glad you asked, dear readers. I'm currently in the final throes of editing a single title romantic comedy manuscript (currently 96,000 words long) and it's been a saga. For starters, I began writing this novel in 2015, then left it halfway done for at least a year before finishing the first, messy draft. Then I sat on it again for about

Do you see how I learn...
by M. L. "Matt" Buchman
I'm not here right now. Seriously, I'm so not. I'm off at a conference learning all of this week, but especially this day, Wednesday 9/25. So, I thought I'd talk a little about how I, as a writer, learn.
CRAFT
I'm not going to talk about craft. The best way to learn craft in the beginning is a class, maybe a few advanced classes (though only from people out way ahead of

Use Humor in the Torture Chamber by Sarah Raplee
Humor is integral to my writer’s voice. I am a plotter and a
pantser, meaning I outline the story to a certain degree before I begin to
write. Humor is something that ‘just happens’ as I write, even when the subject
matter and situations are dark. Writing instructor Alicia Raisley once told me

That All-important Opening
by Courtney Pierce
I tend to agonize over the opening paragraph of my books, even
more so about the very first line. I’ll spend hours ruminating over that first
sentence, which is such a waste of time. I end up squeezing out whatever gets
things going, and then I go back to rewrite it later, maybe after fifteen or twenty chapters.

The Unexpected Road Taken by Content Editor Anna J. Stewart
Thank you
so much for the invitation to post on Romancing the Genres! I’m thrilled to be
here as my editing alter-ego.
If anyone
had asked me years ago, when I got serious about publishing, that in addition
to my writing books for Harlequin (their Heartwarming and Romantic Suspense
lines) I would add freelance content editor to my resume, I would not have been
able to keep a straight

How Did I Get Here? #scifi #superhero #paranormal #romance
Hi, I'm Pippa Jay, author of sci-fi and supernatural stories to engage your emotions.
Despite fish, a gecko and chickens, my kids asked for a cat. Being a cat person myself, I was okay with having one in principal, but know the costs in reality. 'When I get a job that pays well enough,' I promised them. Writing didn't even pay me a living wage, and even going back to work part time didn't

Reading like a writer
I love to read. I think most writers do and some say it's sort of a mandatory thing.
But as my writing career grew, I noticed how I read changed. While I still love to read, I find it almost impossible to turn the writer off.
Now I'm not talking how-to write books but I do read those. My two favorites are -
On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King

See how I like shiny objects?
I must have been a cat in another life. Apart from the fact that I think they're adorable, like the cute fluffballs, I'm easily distracted.
While it might be shiny objects, or just something that's moving that gets their attention, my shiny objects are either new story ideas, or my many, many started stories.
They sit there in my Writing Folder, the folder I shouldn't look in because
