Epic Journal – 8th April 2014

8th April 2014

More kit prep today. On the geocaching front I played around with the OSM maps I’d sourced and downloaded. Still not fully sure they’ve worked but I can see roads in Oklahoma . I also seem to be able to load caches from the Mac to my Garmin, so that’s good as well.

I’d like my first US cache to be my 13000th, which means doing 120 caches or so in the next week. Totally possible but it needs planning and I feel like I have no time.

Managed to do a bit more filming of the announceme...

Epic Journal – 7th April 2014

7th April 2014

Today was a bit of banking. Notifying the bank I would be using my card in the US and scheduling a few payments due whilst I am away. Is it wrong that I am more scared about a cashpoint eating my card whilst I am away than I am about getting p close to tornadoes?

Also ordered a few extra bits including power converters, extra memory card and a head torch. This trip is costing me nearly as much in kit as it is on flights and hotel. I hope it proves worth it!

Day 3 & 4 – Travel

So after a hectic couple of days, things have been a bit quieter. The storm system is causing havoc up the east coast but we’re heading to Kansas for the weekend.

After stopping at our hotel in Florida for two hours, we’ve made our way along the Gulf coast so that we stopped in Biloxi, MS last night and then have arrived in Austin, Texas tonight. Yesterday was a tired day, today has been a chilled day. But everyone is still buzzing from Monday night. We’d still like to see a tornado in the day...

Epic Journal – 6th April 2014

6th April 2014

So my wrist strap for the GoPro arrived yesterday but it needs the tripod mount to affix it because it has the wrong connector. Never buy GoPro accessories from China.

Also never buy a tripod mount from Currys. That’s if you can find one because if their website says they have stock, you’ll turn up to have them search and be unable to find it.

I did go to Go Outdoors today, partly so I could do some more video for the announcement. Gave me chance to use the Car Mount (only inside,...

Epic Journal – 5th April 2014

5th April 2014

You would think that a hotel would be a priority when it came to going away but it’s actually been pretty low down the list. The hotels during the chase are taken care of, so I only need to sort myself for the week geocaching before. And because I want to cache all over Oklahoma, I want to try and avoid a 3 hour drive before starting my day’s caching.

Trouble is, I have no idea how long this will take me. I’ve been told that The Bigfoot Walks series is a 3 dayer, but no idea if I...

Epic Journal – 4th April 2014

4th April 2014

Today my sunglasses arrived. I’ve bought some kayaking ones that have a seal around the eye. That should mean I can stand out in a rear flank downdraft and not get grit in my eye.

I still have a ridiculous number of items to purchase or sort out, including the teaser videos I’m planning to release the week I’m geocaching. Still, they are a good way to test and learn the equipment so that in the event of a tornado I can get some great footage.
