Disability Rights – The Climb #905

Sunday 15th August 2021

Most of my day was taken up by form filling.

A friend of mine’s PiP (disability payments) has come up for renewal.  They told me that they had months to do it, which was just as well, as having done their PiP appeal a few years back… it was a harrowing process for anyone involved.

Except… they told me a few days ago that it was due this week.  How you could misread something so important, I don’t know, but it has been mammoth piece of work today.

I spent 6 hours on it...

Healthy Productivity – The Climb #904

Saturday 14th August 2021

It seems almost typical that the week I start focusing on consistency,  I feel a little burnt out and end up taking a break.  However, it made me realise how good my system is.

In the creative space, there’s a lot of talk about the muse.  Some talk about it as if it was a Goddess that needs to visit and impart divine inspiration on a person and their project.  In recent years, there’s been a lot about ignoring this concept and powering through… that the days you strug...

Computer Meltdown – The Climb #903

Friday 13th August 2021

I’m stressed out about the desktop to the point I’m having a mini-meltdown.

I’d hoped that getting a new graphics card would resolve the problem.  It did not.  That means I wasted £400 and still do not have a working computer.  The people I bought it from are bastards.  They only offer a 2 year warranty and then only offer a time and labour service.  Most of the parts have a 3 year manufacturer guarantee.  And to top that off, to ship it to them cost a fortune by courie...

Meh! Day – The Climb #902

Thursday 12th August 2021

Today,  I’ve just been feeling pretty flat.  I’m not in a bad mood, nor do I feel ill in any way, I just have had a day that can be best described as meh!

Typically, this is a sign I’m a bit rundown, but usually that’s accompanied by a ton of preceding work.  I’ve been working hard the last few weeks, but I don’t think I’ve been going flat out.

The only thing that has really put me in a bad mood is my computer.  It’s only just over 2 years old and I don’t think the c...

The Last Warcraft Wednesday? – The Climb #901

Wednesday 11th August 2021

Today was Warcraft Wednesday and it felt a bit of an odd one.  Warcraft has been a strange place of late.  For many people, including myself, Warcraft is a bit of a safe haven.  It’s a place where I go when I’ve had a stressful day and just want to forget the world.  But with all the news about mistreatment of staff at the studio, it has somehow impacted the game.

Whilst there are those who’ve left the game based on their decision not to give money to the studio, the...

Minecraft And Chill – The Climb #900

Tuesday 10th August 2021

My PC recently broke.  It just won’t boot up.  Luckily, the way I work meant this was not the disaster it could have been, and with the exception of The Climb thumbnails and all my video stuff, I’ve been able to continue to work on my gaming laptop uninterrupted.

What makes this particularly annoying is that the system is just over 2 years old and in that grey area where the warranty covers labour but not necessarily the parts.

I went through all the diagnoses with ...

Super Mondays – The Climb #899

Monday 9th August 2021

A lot of the stuff I’m working on right now is quite monotonous stuff.  It’s the same task day in and day out as I work towards a distant goal, such as writing a novel.

Despite this being quite ‘boring’, it has allowed me to really get an understanding of my productivity.  When most days are identical, it becomes easier to identify the variances.

And yes, I seem to be more productive on Mondays.  Whilst I don’t think this is a particularly world-shattering revelation, I...

Consistency – The Climb #898

Sunday 9th August 2021

My big buzzword at the moment is consistency.  With so many things I want to do, they are not tasks that can be done in a single day.  Therefore they need to be chipped away at, one day at a time.

The Accursed sits close to 115k – 120k (it’s a bit fuzzy because I wrote an alternative scene a while back and that was counted in the totals until recently).  I chip away at around 1500 words a day.  Yet, I’d like to add in an extra session each day and that’s not happening cur...

The Perfect Time – The Climb #897

Saturday 7th August 2021

Today was a day where I made a little progress on a lot of things.  And as such, especially being a weekend, I felt quite accomplished.

Most importantly, I think I have my Twitter back.  This had taken a ridiculous amount of effort, including involvement by my local MP.  But it looks like I’ve got it back.

I haven’t tried it yet as I don’t want to get my hopes up.  I’ve had so many let downs over the last few months that part of me expects something to happen the mome...

Inclusivity – The Climb #896

Friday 6th August 2021

Today has been a good, if not an entirely productive day.  Unlike earlier in the week when I wasn’t sure what had caused my drop in productivity, I can today attribute it to sword-fighting, AKA HEMA.

I’ve missed HEMA during the pandemic… and I haven’t.  The fact I couldn’t train or spar didn’t so much put me off, but put me off for the time being.  At the start of the pandemic I had all these big plans of how I’d keep HEMA going, but I had to prioritize my health, and as...
