Frustrated Over Nothing – The Climb #895

Thursday 5th August 2021

I spent most of my day dealing with ongoing sexist drama.

It’s taken me a lot of time today, but I think it’s worthwhile deconstructing these tall lies people build themselves, if only to deflate some egos.   Sometimes I wonder if people are ignorant, or whether it’s a choice.  I’m leaning more towards the choice.

As a result, I felt a little frustrated today.  I don’t feel I really achieved anything when I did manage to get a couple of writing sessions in.  Mostly th...

Not All Men – The Climb #894

Wednesday 4th August 2021

I’ll admit that I’m not always the greatest on social issues.  I believe in equality and diversity but as a white-passing man (I suffer with vitiligo so there’s something about being called white that riles me a little) I miss a lot of things.

I’ve had something in one of my communities whereby a serial harasser has been given a role of importance.  As you can imagine, people who were subject to the harassment (mostly women, but also a non-binary person), aren’t happy...

What A Difference A Day Makes – The Climb #893

Tuesday 3rd August 2021

I’m on a bit of a mission.

Yesterday was a productive day.  I got loads done, wrote a lot and moved a load of big projects forward.  Yet, as predicted, today was a totally unproductive day.

I’ve tried to establish why this happens.  Sometimes, if you have a long list of task, you can cherry pick the easy ones on the first day, leaving you with the harder ones on the second.  Likewise with writing, you could go into day 1 of a very clear view of what the next couple of ...

A Productive Start To The Week – The Climb #892

Monday 2nd August 2021

Monday’s always seem to be my most productive day of the week.  Having moved all my end of week admin to Sundays, it now means I can hit the week running, trying to cross off as many tasks as possible.

I tend to slow down as the week progresses.  There’s something about all those tasks I didn’t get time to do, that seem to overwhelm me and somehow leave me feeling less motivated.  I’ve come to accept it.  I’ll be better on the big one–off tasks at the beginning of the we...

Disaster Recovery – The Climb #891

Sunday 1st August 2021

After yesterday’s disaster, today was about getting myself back up and running.  Were it not for the fact that I’m already very resilient I’d be in a much worse place.

I learnt to be mobile back when I ran A-F.  Heading over to the US to cover events like the Toy Fair or San Diego Comic Con might sound like a lot of fun – and they were – but they were jobs.  I stressed myself out, I made myself ill.  Not only was I working the floor helping to take pictures, but I was th...

Disaster! – The Climb #890

Saturday 31st July 2021

My PC decided to die.  And by die, I mean it won’t even turn on.

I’ve had a few issues these last few weeks with random reboots.  I’ll be playing a game and suddenly, the game will not only crash but the entire PC will reboot.  It always seemed to be as I loaded into a new area on Warcraft or had a lot going on in Fortnite, so I reduced graphic settings to see if that would improve things.

But it started doing it when I was watching Youtube, or working in Word.  And the...

Slow But Steady Progress – The Climb #889

Friday 30th July 2021

I had a meeting today, that whilst nothing unusual in the big scheme of things, ended up with me spending a lot of time prepping and then following up on actions afterwards.  As a result, it ate into my day and I didn’t get a lot else done.

This week has been an odd one.  Whilst I’ve been pretty good about moving the novel along this past week and done a healthy wordcount each day… it’s lacked those super-productive days where I do a crazy amount.  As a result, my weekly ...

Warcraft Thursday – The Climb #888

Thursday 29th July 2021

Today was my Warcraft day.  Usually I play Warcraft on Wednesdays but given that Blizzard staff were walking out that day, I decided not to log in and instead wait until today to do my weeklies.  I used it as a chance to stream and get some content for videos, the first of which has finished rendering just now.

Despite everything that is going on with Blizzard that is ruining my enjoyment of the game at the moment, I have to be honest and say that I’m loving the Campaign ...

Boycott Wednesday – The Climb #887

Wednesday 28th July 2021

Today should have been Warcraft Wednesday but after the terrible things that have happened at Blizzard this past week, there was an organised boycott in support of staff who were staging walkouts.  Having read the allegations brought by the state of California, they are truly dreadful and as a result, I was happy not to log into Warcraft today.  My weeklies can wait for tomorrow.

I notice that a lot of our raid team have not renewed their subscriptions, and some of the m...

The Battle To Get Things Done – The Climb #886

Tuesday 27th July 2021

Today has been a bit of a battle to get things done.  I woke up not feeling well.  I’m not sure if I’d just slept funny and snored a lot but I woke with a very sore throat, and feeling fatigued.  After yesterday, where I slept for 10 hours and felt very rested, today I felt like I’d not had an ounce of sleep.

As a result, everything I wanted to do, became a battle.  I wrote early, but I don’t think the words were very good as it felt much like how I write when I’m half asl...
