Pokemon GoFest Day 1 – The Climb #876
Today was the first day of Go Fest and it just so happened to be the hottest day of the year. For the first half we stayed inside but we ventured out for the latter half and I’m now hot, sweaty, knackered and sore.
Like last year, they did it so that each hour was one of four rotating environments each with their unique pokemon. There was a challenge to collect them all which we focused on the first half of the day.
Of course, there were also shinies and this is where ...

GoFest Eve – The Climb #875
It’s Pokemon Go Fest tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to it. I wish I was.
I was reading this thing the other day, talking about World of Warcraft, where it said that developers used to be gamers, and would make their games primarily so players had fun. But, it added, with the rise of social media and big gaming corporations, so there’s been this us vs them mentality that’s developed in a lot of gaming studios.
I feel like that about Niantic.
They are apparently going...

Stepping Out – The Climb #874
I seem to do a lot of work in the summer. There’s some seasonal nature to my productivity that somehow always sees me writing first drafts in July. Maybe the increased sunlight does something to my mood or something but then I’m never in it because A) I’d burn in 5 minutes flat and B) I’m writing.
I’ve been sat at a computer a lot the last couple of weeks. Be it writing or playing Warcraft, I’m always sat down. It’s resulted in serious anterior tilt, and it’s definite...

Lots Of Work – The Climb #873
In recent months I’ve been using Warcraft Wednesday to farm renown for my alts. But with the arrival of patch 9.1, these activities take a little more time and as such I’m focusing only on my mains. That’s OK, there will be time once they reach renown 80 to go back and use catch up mechanisms to level them up as well. My aim for 9.2 is to have all alts to renown 80
But for now the focus is only on my two mains. I’m doing dailies on both of them as well as the weekly ...

Productivity Stats – The Climb #872
The vast majority of today was spent posting backdated editions of The Climb. It’s one of those things where I need to swap between periods of basic data filling – to add stats for words written each day and assign them to the relevant categories and writing projects – and editing (however brief).
It means I’ve not been able to do this whilst watching Youtube or listening to an audiobook, as for the editing part I need to concentrate and words will just confuse me. So I’...

Hungover – The Climb #871
As expected, after drinking WAY too much Pimms yesterday whilst raiding and watching the football, I woke up feeling very dehydrated and spent the morning being unable to do anything remotely productive.
However, I started feeling more myself by the time it came to afternoon and carried on the work of posting old editions of The Climb.
It’s taking me a lot of time as I not only need to log everything into my database, but I need to give each edition a quick edit. And there...

The Backlog – The Climb #870
I’ve started the long process of posting the backlog of The Climb. There’s over 4 months worth and after today I think it’s going to take me more than just a solid afternoon.
On the plus side, they are all written and thumbnails done, but there is cover 70,000 words that need a quick sanity check / edit. I got about 20 issues done yesterday but that still leaves over a hundred.
I’m slightly annoyed that it was something I wanted to get done by the end of the week, but, un...

Redemption – The Climb #869
Sunday will see my guild tackle the new raid in World of Warcraft. I’m beyond excited and have been trying to prepare myself for tomorrow night by getting the best gear I can.
There’s a thing in the World of Warcraft community where when the Mythic level version of the raid comes out, they all race each other to be the first to kill the last boss on that difficulty. It’s called the Race to World First and it was one of my earliest exposure to esports. I still follow i...

The Need To Map Chapters – The Climb #868
An important lesson to remember from today is that I need to have future chapters mapped out. I’ve been spending a lot of time on a flashback chapter recently. After my Wowcation I returned and started finishing off the chapter. I had originally intended for another set of events after where I’d got to, but decided yesterday that the chapter had said what it needed to say.
So I went to move onto the next chapter and found… I had nothing planned.
So whilst I did get in a ...

The First Video – The Climb #867
Today was my first day back to work on various things after a week long WoWcation for patch 9.1 in World of Warcraft, and I managed to get a load done.
My task list currently has been dominated by doing intros to video projects. My idea is to have the intros in different formats ready to go. I can then just stick content behind them, and quickly export. I’m using some of my experience from doing the stormchasing here to work out how to turn out content quickly. A lot o...
